what’s a good auv3 limiter with presets for someone who does not really want to try to understand how to use one lol
i hear bark filter has some magic settings.
i have grand finale but it does not load as an auv3 you have export audio to it so i’m looking for something to toss in aum

  • It doesn't get much easier than Klevgrand's Korvpressor.

  • Is Pro-L auv3?

  • edited March 2020

Pro-L. I use it on my lighter CPU projects. For heavier projects, I just stick the AU that comes with ApeMatrix on the master track.

  • For quickly limiting the volume of sound experiments, I use Amazing Noises Limiter. Default volume ceiling is -0.5db, and default input gain is 0db - just increase the input gain for more volume and squash.

Later if I want to turn the experiment into a song, I replace it with proper mixing, and/or Pro-L since it's a bit cleaner sounding.

  • Barricade is the most transparent I’ve tried. And the presets are perfect

  • DDMF No Limits is AU.. There all nice plugins really..

for something superquick and transparent , I reduce the dynamic range ( shave off the peaks using a comp, after visually checking in Audioshare), after which I use normalize function in audioshare.

When is audioshare I use Aufxpush

else for intricate mastering it has to be Prol L2

Bark filter though i love it, is not a transparent plugin ( meaning its add color to your track). whether you like this color , is a personal choice

limiter and compressor are exactly the FXs which you should avoid until you don't understand what they are doing, otherwise there is high risk you make things just worse...

It's not rocket science, it's pretty easy.
Knowledge is valuable, don't be lazy ;)

    Toneboosters Barricade.

Set the algorithm mode to automatic, and off you go - it will do it's magic in a super transparent way. You'll also get a loudness reading you can immediately see if you are trying to create a mix that is too loud.

Ha for sure and I was being a bit sarcastic with it as I do understand what's happening I just don't like to spend a lot of time with it, I just wanna splash the paint on that canvas but not make the paint kinda thing with mastering, I plan to hand over my work to the pros to finalise my ep, I just want, for personal listening to try to get a sense of what the final product could sound like by using some of these finishing tools... However yes you are absolutely right in what you said. My music time is very limited and I want to make music and the people who study this stuff and enjoy it will be the ones I want to do the actual mastering If that makes sense.

  • Really good info, advise and reccomendations here guys much appreciated everyone who posted.... Deff looking into these options.
A couple of them I have so I'll start there!
@auxmux , I didn't realise ape had that, great to know

  • I do not have barricade but it sounds like it's wonderful

Barricade or Pro L2 IMO, Barricade is quite a bit cheaper and pretty much just as good (I think the metering in Pro L2 is a little better, but otherwise they're very similar).

I wrote it because for many years this was exactly my strategy :)) I was avoiding using compressor/limiter :))

When i look at it from other perspective - basically any available limiter (Pro-L, Barricade, FAC Maxima, or even NS2 Limiter - it's very very transparent clean limiter) can be used the way that you simply put it in track and then you increase gain BEFORE limiter until you start hear sound is distorted - then you lower gain before limiter to the level where this distortion disappears, lower it 1-2 dB more below point where you stopped hear any significant distortion, and you're probably in sweet spot ;-)

  • Barricade is great. The only thing it doesn't have is a side-chain input (it does on desktop). Hopefully that's coming.

You can’t go wrong. And it’s so cheap!

  • Best guide to compression/limiting I’ve seen. It’s not rocket appliances but often explained poorly in tutorials/books.

    https://patches.zone/compression-guide

  • Pro L2 (and all the Fab Filters) make learning fun!

that’s def a great tip, never thought of it like that

  • @reasOne another approach is to put a limiter on your master buss at the beginning of a mix and “mix into it” you cant go too crazy with how much limiting its doing before it sounds bad. Like try and stay below 4-5db gain reduction when the loudest things are going on. Make a duplicate of a session and play around with it. You can turn it off if/when you have someone else do a mix or master.

Any reason to get TB Barricade, if i already have Pro-L2?

Only if you need a quick iPhone master
L2 is as good as it gets

I have Pro-L2 but am thinking of getting Barricade just to be able to get to know it on iOS before I get it on PC. I love Pro-L2 on iOS but can't spend the VST prices.
