  • @Shiro It's good to know when to leave. But one of the best things about this funny little place is that many of us have left, some sad, some angry, but the door is always open and there will be nothing more than people pleased to see you if one day you feel like wandering back in to read or to chat or to teach or to learn. Be well.

  • I am sort of glad this these little dramas continue on while the storm rages outside. It reminds me what it was like when things were more normal. Come back, Shane!

  • Okay there is way too much to sift through. @Shiro is leaving because of an argument with @rs2000 about whether Drambo should have a piano roll?

    That’s corona-crazy.

    @Shiro
Don’t leave, just hang back. I’ve left many times without saying so:

Something/someone gets to me and I’m out!

And I just come back and lurk at the edge, until there’s something to post, and I’m over it, and/or over myself, as time goes by. Much love either way

  • @Shiro don't leave. Just cool off for a bit and come back.

  • @Shiro I highly recommend reading this ;-)

    https://markmanson.net/not-giving-a-fuck

  • @Shiro i took a year long break from commenting here, Reddit, fb, and other forums I frequent. I still visited all these sites but it was refreshing just to lurk around and not take part in the conversation. Especially if things got dicey, a step back is worth it even if just for a couple months.

  • This whole thing is like a monty python sketch: "And now without further ado, I present my newest invention ... the theremin!!!" ... "yeah that's great but where's the keyboard? Don't you know any chords?"

    That's a bummer!
But of course it's your own decision.

I wish you all the best and that you'll meet enough people that give you energy, inspire you, help you move forward.
    Stay healthy and take care.

Lets be honest here you are the reason I decided to leave.
I never been disrespected In music before.

Please help me understand - What exactly gave you the feeling of disrespect?
I've just double-checked and I really haven't found any chords in "The Invisible Man".
No Judgement about that, and no judgement about any of your music that I naturally know very little about.

You take care but maybe Don't get too personal in your debates.

I must admit that I found the "bloat" offense quite disturbing, so excuse me if I have over-reacted.

Especially when your point of view is not that of the developer.

    How do you know?

Bloat is just a term for excess code.

I asked him of course, plus that fact that after 2 years in development it wasn’t a part of the design.

You are the one who finds it hard to listen to others.

What you said was the worst type of insult. Anyway you sort of apologized fine.

  • @Shiro the ignore button is your forum friend ;)

  • not so sure why so many are engaging in this.. this gentleman called people ‘trolls’ merely for not worshipping at the church of The Clash.. and now he feels insulted over a simple function ‘and/or’ debate.. then making a big drama about leaving.
sure, he’s been creative with his privileged beta position on the Drambo thing.. and was, it would appear, only here for that subject any way..
I wish him well. wherever he may wander. but having not really come to grips with the etiquette here it’s perhaps best to just leave it there and move on..
i’m sorry that i could not write something more friendly, that’s something of a cause for sadness.

I was wondering when you would turn up. Dont worry im just waiting to be deleted.

    You are a troll.

Ps - I only mentioned the clash in a friendly Way in hope you stop trolling with it. Maybe if i said i hated them you would have stopped... probably not.
I only know one song from them. Didn’t even understand what you were saying about them.

  • Thanks all for the kind words. Generally really sweet. I waited a day to cool off as you guys suggested, as you can see its not working really. Take care.

You can just ignore him forever using the ignore button. I'd really miss hearing your Drambo jams :(

  • Someone seems sensitive about his musical abilities. Artists by nature are sensitive people. A few offhand comments overtime can make some feel like they are disrespected.

Saying there are no chords in some music could be interpreted as an attack on the value of the music... that is has no logical basis for the notes chosen and is just random.

Technically a chord does imply simultaneous notes in fixed intervals. But there's also an implied chord progression in the linear lines of Bach and music students are taught to identify essential chord tones and passing tones in those lines and then to pull out the chord progressions (and harmonies) in the music.

Just remember all advice is a form of criticism and all criticism can be taken as flaws.
Give it without regard for the sensitivities of the human being discussed and you can make
an enemy without knowing it. Such is the nature of the human mind and it's coping mechanisms.

Sayonara Shiro. Good luck finding a better home for your writing and fellowship.
I have self-deleted on many forums and find this one to be better than most as long as I
avoid give away too much power to people that make offhand comments. I know I've made my share. I generally try and mend fences but sometimes... "ignore" gives you back control over some superior dickwad. Still... you keep peeking to see if they miss you, right?

You will be missed. Conflict makes all stories more interesting and we love choosing sides
and rooting for someone in a fight. This one seems like there's really no fight... just unintended insults. Thank god we can make this music without leaving the house. It's
crazy out there for the sensitive.

  • @McD, notes, shmotes, it’s the melody that counts! A note here, a note there... soon there’s no white space anymore. Sad.

  • It would be a weird place if everyone always agreed, or had identical opinions. Creepy in fact. Though it's easy to forget cultural norms in a decontextualised space such as an Internet forum. Coming from UK banter can be vicious, we were brought up on it, friendly disagreements are are often dealt with in fairly brutal terms. Face to face and in context it is what it is and maybe there's a delicate line between what comes across as not to be taken to heart and what constitutes actual insult. I know from experience banter from a Japanese perspective just comes across as, well bloody rude. I expect other cultures have similar differences.
I don't know what the answer is, maybe emojis.

    Your idea sucks.
    Your idea sucks 🤣

    See, that works.

Seriously, shame to see @Shiro go.

Still, who likes being told their baby is ugly... or thinking that's what the "it looks just like you" comment was intended to convey. We hear all comments through our personal filters. Best to just apologize and not defend the statement. Sorry is often the best advice
after a dust up. Just insure you are convincing... might take some effort and practice.

When I tell my wife I'm sorry she usually says "Yeah you are."

  • Uh, i missed the drama but i thank Shiro for the nice Drambo videos which were the most useful in all the pre-hype 2 years Drambo thread.

This sounds like a loss to the forum but it should be possible to link to future videos if more are coming.

  • @LinearLineman I don’t think the ‘music’ is relevant really: melody, harmony, rhythm, structure, whatever - the only thing that matters is the effect it has on you or your audience. Whatever the ‘it’ is.

But I know you were just stirring. :)

Yeah I didn't see that comments that lead to this, more general thoughts, but personal filters and all that, "it looks just like you" in regards to some creation seems quite sweet in a way. Probably is best to end everything in sorry though. Sorry.

Well. Another "deleted user" and thus all ability to find his posts is forever gone. Sigh this forum is losing its value to me every day whenever people just delete themselves. you want to leave. I get that. But don't rob the world of all your contributions before. I know people will find offense with what I say here. But I truely feel this is just wrong. Goodbye Shiro. You will be missed as long as some of us still remember your name.

  • @qryss, sure, I agree with you. Just having some fun.

Yeah, that's iOS music in a nutshell. I had a good chuckle when Giku was like "I'm gonna make the ultimate modular synth" and Audiobus community responded "where is the slicer?".

It's like anything new always has to be forced into becoming something that already exists.

  • Ambitious people who are involved into app development to some extent will often spit out ideas and feature requests, and if they do so publicly, I would hope they do so to spark a fruitful discussion and exchange of opinions.
It's very natural that in regards to a certain feature, more or less people will not agree or simply not care at all. That's the point of the public discussion.

If a feature request is intended to solve a problem that some users have experienced up to that point, putting it off as unnecessary or "bloat" is likely not the way to go in my opinion.
Entering and modifying chords in a quick, easy and intuitive manner in the sequencer of the app under discussion certainly isn't one of its strengths at the moment, which I experienced when trying to compose music with a lot of chords involved. A number of other forum members have found and commented on the same subject.
My mistake was probably firstly that i made my idea public at all and secondly that I didn't simply ignore the "bloat" comment but rather took an example to demonstrate why I think the feature indeed wouldn't matter for this guy, as he only used monophonic melody lines in his song so obviously he didn't even stumble across the problem that my suggestion was out to find a solution for. He knew my background though because it was not the first discussion about this subject, so yes, I got really angry about that comment instead of leaning back.
    Lesson learned.

Thank you guys for all your comments on the subject, I appreciate them very much!

There could be a lot of baggage behind his meltdown here. He seems to have gotten
frustrated with a lot of fellow commenters. He was too close to the app to listen to
requests for even more features. That can get old fast but it's one of the qualities of the forum. Imagine SpaceCraft Granular without the input of this forum and the developers embrace of proposed features and fixes. (I do hope Mark is recovering fully from the virus).

Thank you guys for all your comments on the subject, I appreciate them very much!

I also have a tendency when I hurt someone to try and explain myself and always forget to
show any remorse or apologize. Because it's always intention that matters to me. Unintended injuries are really on the receivers end. But history has taught me to try "I'm sorry" and I do it about 10% of the time. Usually when my first draft starts with WTF? then I swing back to "I'm sorry" and wait.

It's good to keep all the smart posters around if possible but we can't win them all to the immense range of views all apps are subjected to and Drambo got commented on for ever as we waited for the release. It seems to be the hit it was expected to be and demonstrates exceptional design and implementation details.

It's not an ugly baby, for sure.
