That is amazing to hear - and I personally would be delighted obviously.

The world you describe is what I already do: I agree that the bundle-of-things/‘complete’ solution is bound to mean you don’t get what you want - just what they give you. Gig Performer is designed by a keyboard player but loads of guitarists use it and it plays the role of flexible host extremely well. It’s got its own advanced scripting language for those extra special configurations and connections as well.

I’ve always wondered why this is but all the plugins I know of for desktop are outside the App Store - which means you need to deal with copy protection stuff. A small handful of people make a meal of this but most get it just about right. iLok is hated by some still but is actually really good these days and you don’t need a dongle anymore.

Again, I’m more than happy to share everything I know if it helps.

The copy protection issue is the main reason why we haven’t done plugin development for desktop OS. I am inclined to just skip it and see what happens. It seems most plugins get cracked anyway. I’m curious to see how important it is to use copy protection. I hope we can just release on the mac app store and leave it at that.

I hear that often but also that some developers have a "secure" and customer friendly protection like U-he. I think they are open to help out also in such cases maybe. I wonder if iOS 100% secure here?
But then even 1 dollar tools get cracked because people are like this.
Then some developers even accept that because anyone who use a cracked version would not buy it anyway.
Others even says it is a way to spread a tool and people will start to buy it when updated OS kills the cracked version or something like this.
I never would use it since i respect developers who puts their blood and money into this.
Selling it trough the mac app store would make it at least secure as on iOS, or?
However, it seems still a lot developers doing fine on both platforms and maybe asking developers which already support crossplatforms can say if its worth the trouble.
I mean people will always try to steal things. If iOS music will get bigger (and i´m sure it will) piracy will grow as well there. Its juts the nature of the beast.

Mac Apps can be quite easy to copy. I’m not sure if it’s still that way. I think I’d rather have a few sales from honest folk than to spend a lot of time worrying about to stop the rest of people from pirating.

O.k. i understand but i thought that changed by now? Also isn´t that the same with iOS apps and jailbreaked idevices (not sure if that even is a thing today).
I wonder what will happen once Apple comes out with the ARM macbooks and /or if they want iPadOS to open more to replace macOS.
Maybe good that iOS music scene is still a niche since it holds piracy small.
But anyway wrong theme in a forum maybe. All i can say is i would really love to buy your tools for my mac.
The Attack softener would be a nice start. All the best to you and your apps are amazing. Thank you for that.

I don't know the answer to that. It would be wonderful if the copy protection already built-in to the App Store is sufficient. We will try it and find out. :)

On top of the copy protection I also find the convenience of always getting the latest update without any effort very convincing to buy apps on the App Store. It’s quite a hassle to always having to login to individual dev websites and finding the latest plugin version download. The main obstacle probably is remembering all the account logins 😬
So kudos to all software devs that are willing to share some percentages with Apple but make it convenient for the customer!

PS: also still very keen on getting the attack softener on Mac!

finally is planned a desktop version?... I really miss AttackSoftener in my Ableton based guitar rig, nothing as good in the VST/AU world...

  • It’s a possibility, yes, if @Blue_Mangoo chooses to do it.

I’m the same - I feel my rig is missing without it. There’s nothing as good that I know of.

    No pressure... :)

We already have the back end up and running on Mac. The user interface from iOS doesn't run on Mac OS, so we are re-writing it. The interface isn't very complicated but the way it combines several images together to draw the control knobs gets into trouble when you resize the window if it's not done right.

I'm glad to hear there is interest for it on Mac. We are planning to release Mac versions of several other plugins too.

Looking forward to the Mac release! Thanks for the effort.

Please do! Like you said, there's really nothing quite like it in terms of accuracy at the moment. I think it would be a big hit for desktop users!

  • That is so exciting to hear. I also just discovered that FAC have four plugins in the Mac App Store now. Is this the start of something new..? I certainly hope so.

  • This attack softener plugin is a lot more useful than it seems at first. That reminds me, I must go post a review on the app store :)

  • It's cool, for example, to soften the attack on loops. U can take something very percussive and turn it into a something much more abstract, sometimes even pad-like

  • So cool! Thanks @Blue_Mangoo I was thinking about it lots lately.

  • Anyone want to demo Attack Softener in conjunction with MuteMaster?

    I’m envisioning auto swells galore

  • Almost daily I’m checking for Attack Softener on the Mac App Store. Quite excited about it. @Blue_Mangoo is it still about to come?

We have it working 99% but we got stuck with some errors with the UI layout and we can't figure out how to solve them. We posted a support ticket to Apple last week and are still waiting for their reply.

I buy it still for 99% of the price ;)
I hope it get solved. Also any chance of velocity filter for mac?
Your little apps are so simple (for usage i mean) but so effective. These little things can make such a huge difference.

Velocity filter for Mac... there is a chance yes. It's not high on our list of plugins to port over but if we do well on the Mac app store we will eventually port everything.

The dev who was working on it had some trouble. It’s not an insurmountable problem but with the release of mac M1 we decided to wait and see if iOS audio units will be supported directly because that would save us some time.

  • Is there any possibility of an iOS Christmas gift special on Attack Softener, @Blue_Mangoo?

Was looking to purchase it by the end of the year, but blew all my money on Black Friday/Cyber Monday app deals... 😔

    Hi @SNystrom

Attack Softener is selling for $5.99. That seems to be a fair price. We only lower our prices when we believe they are too high. Sorry.

  • I use it regularly @Blue_Mangoo. Very useful and thanks!

Yeah, @Blue_Mangoo, I saw that you had reduced the price from $9.99 to $5.99 back in June. Was just hoping the newer price was still "too high!" 🙃

Will have to start rifling through the seat cushions and sofa to see if I can scrape the funds together...

    Thanks for the quick reply!
