What‘s your favourite drum companion app for jamming away?
As per the title: which app are you using for just jamming away without programming beats before hand? Is there any app that supports a listening function that really works?

If you use a host such as AB3 or AUM, I like to use Xequence AU Pads then you can play any drum app that has midi in.
Also the pads in Digistix....
No listening, but I love FunkBox for classic canned beats to keep time while you play an idea, rehearse, etc. Start it up and you’re going in seconds.
I’d be real interested in a .rex file player for iOS, so you could have a library of drum loops that sounded convincing at different tempos.
For Electronica I tend to use iElectribe ...its Fast, Fat and Funky..
For rock I use Rock Drum Machine..it..errr ...Rocks...
Yesterday, I was jamming and got a beat going pretty fast in Drambo..that may become my go to...
It’s not just a drum app, but Blocs Wave comes with an ample library of drum loops, that you can change the tempo of. Has a system of tags for the loops that makes finding something that fits what you’re playing easier. You can put your own loops in too.
for drums..
poly 2
playbeat
ruismaker
patterning 2
patterning 2 has pads you can jam on, is not auv3 tho if that matters, but is one if the only non auv3 apps i use everyday
the others you program but i just let it play thru while adding steps
DrumJam, of course.
DrumJam. Nothing else even comes close. It’s probably the best app on iOS, if I had to choose only one.
Does Drumjam use multisamples so that a change in velocity gives a change in tone, not just volume?
Lumbeat stuff! For me, soft drummer.
I started with a 1 bar loop in GTL, recorded on hand-muted percussive guitar, which set the tempo, then had soft drummer follow using a pattern with either no, or very few beats programmed, but jam intensity set around 50%, and fill every 4 or 8 bars. sounded great as a backing for jamming or songwriting, and wasn't too intensely busy.
I must check out drumjam though.
Yes, very much so. Super deep sampling on the pads.
DrumJam has two parts: the top part plays audio loops. There’s a lot of customization possible, but you can’t program your own patterns. But you don’t really need to program given all the possibilities.
The bottom part is pads that play a single instrument. You can play them two ways: either finger drumming your own beats, or sliding around to play the sampled beats, or both at the same time. It’s flicking genius. This bottom part alone would be a Top Five iOS app.
Sounds good. I have all the Lumbeats, which are great, but I need something that lets me play with dynamics using an external MIDI controller. I hope Drumjam can be that guy.
Funk drummer for practicing bass
I don't know how it responds to external controllers, or if it does. Check that out.
im finding digistix is my go to app for laying ideas down for sending to my band mates as well as funkbox, and patterning for electronic stuff i do
Stockholm in Gadget. Definitely.
Stockholm in KORG Gadget is the solution. I love it.
Organic loops that are as flexible as good ol' Spectrasonics Stylus.
For live drum jamming another vote for Drumjam - fantastic.
Patterning...is the best I have so far...
IOSSOS
Rozeta XOX and Rhythm feeding Fractal Bits.
Otherwise Axon 2.
That is how I understood it too.
@tja yes, that‘s what I‘m after. I own two of the Lumbeat Apps but don‘t like them too much. Something like X Drummer or Drum Session is more what I‘m interested in...
Which Lumbeat apps do you own? Some are great . A few are less so. I
Drum Session has a great library of patterns and the velocity-sensitive pads are nice, but the samples are mostly too wet for my taste. You can import your own samples or drive other drum apps with it. Note: it doesn't have the sort of "AI" that the Lumbeat apps do. So, you need to program in your beats and variations or pick them from the library. The songs will play back the same way every time.
X Drummer is not well liked by most that mentioned it here though it has the occasional fan. It was given to me and I have tried to like it but I have never found it satisfactory.
I own RockDrummer and FutureDrummer. I like the jamming options but can‘t stand the sounds of either app. And driving other sample players is a little bit annoying to set up (again) each time.
RockDrummer and FutureDrummer are found to be underwhelming by many and the demos on YouTube are consistent with that (which is why I have avoided them).
Soft Drummer and Jazz Drummer are excellent. The sounds are good and the feel good. Listen to YouTube examples of them and see what you think. I hear good things about Funk Drummer which I don't own. Mid-East Drummer is excellent but specialize as are the other ethnic-theme ones.
Soft Drummer, despite its name, is quite versatile even for rock, funk and jazz. I find it an excellent jam companion. And have shared some things with musician friends who didn't realize they were listening to a drum machine on auto-jam.
How about the GarageBand drummer
You do not want X drummer, I can promise you that.
The garageband drummers may be your best bet on ios if you don’t like the lumbeat apps, or if you are on a computer, jamstix.
