3 pages and not one mention of Dhalang MG!?![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I spent some time with this and though its intricate and seems complex at first, I was able to generate completely varied, interesting, unique and worthy sequences. It does take time to piece everything together. It wasn't intuitive for me in the beginning, but over time it all clicked into place. It's so capable and rich and worth the effort IMO.
Berliner’s book on jazz improvisation is also very good. My favorite ethnomusicologist.
That looks great. Hella long haha!! I’ve got far too much to do learning to use the apps I binge-bought recently, don’t think I can fit in a thousand page tome on jazz improv unfortunately 😂
That's because only two people in the entire world understand how to use it... I'd like to investigate, but I found the demo app baffling.
I will add that different drummer can be a very interesting generative app. If we're discussing confusing apps, with bad interfaces that have great potential...![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Seriously though - how did you go about this?
Haha! great was to put it! Though, I could never figure out DD. I did, then forgot the next day.
There's a really good manual! I read it and agonized and read it again while going through different modules, then it started to make sense. And my mind is not very technically oriented. Then I waited a couple months and had to go over it all again. I've been wanting to spend sometime with it again.
Would like to hear 😊
You could do a fair bit with these guys here. You can hook up random to any of the modulatable parameters and random condition in step edit makes sure that any condition you’ve added to a step behaviour is randomised.
We actually did a short video of a generative soft piece last year - maybe this is interesting for you?
Just imagining what my life would be like if I had a favorite ethnomusicologist. Seems unimaginably exotic and unattainable...
Looks up book on google, realizes he's read said book and actually has a copy sitting on the shelf next to his desk...
It is very good. Also liked this if you haven't read it:

Definitely want the rewritten edition. And I did at want point want to scream at him about chord tones...
Stares at the apps he's trying to learn and wonders if he could make one more effort with this one...
Are you using all of PolyPhase’s lanes on the same synth or splitting them?
After he solved Fermat’s last theorem and turned lead into gold... Then he moved onto the hard stuff on Dhalang...
Yea, Diff Drumm has some really good ideas, but the ui/ux is total shit. I realized it’s possible to get the exact same musical “effect” out of a few separate apps like running Poly2 through RozScaler and modify them with midiLFOs.
I read that in the bookstore back in the early 80s. Don't think I ever bought a copy though.
Genuinely funny.
EoN is for the generative purists.
It is on sale at the moment.
I leave it running sometimes, and I forget that I am listening to a generative app. I mistake it for internet radio all the time.
Great! I'm gonna screen shot this to try later. I've since found more and more elements you could use in Drambo for this sort of stuff.
Honestly, when I first got Drambo I felt like it wasn't for me and I'd fallen for the hype.
Now that I've been through some tutorials and experimented a bit more... I'm just floored at how versatile, complete, intuitive, and stable it really is. Stunned really. Would buy again in a heartbeat.
thx!
Easy tiger!
at least with the second screenshot (tbh the first one as well, just through the random (No pun) modules in there to show they exist) I just have a vague idea how they work but haven’t used them extensively. You might have to experiment or/and ask some superior to me beings how this work exactly. Sorry 😬
Yeah, I was in the middle of something else and didn't want to have to search for your reply later... so grabbed a screen shot.
I've found several modules within Drambo that could be used for generative stuff now. Will give those a whirl too. Sorry if that seemed too hyped... but I'm just glad to realize I didn't actually waste money and time on yet another app that was heavily hyped and never really got used much. Nice when that happens these days.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
OK, stuck this on youtube for you Monome, please be aware this is just a bit of noodling with two apps that I barely know how to use haha. Frankly it was enough of a challenge to actually get Polyphase to make noises in AUM lol. I am pretty new to this whole world of iOS in general, very much in the learning (aka ‘fucking about’) stage. @skiphunt Yes, all running into Mersenne to create a kind of Kalimba vibe.
Thank you. I will listen to it as soon as I get home.
I’m a noob too and don’t know how to make videos. One day though.
I just do video screen capture. Then upload to YouTube. If you want you can trim in youtube before uploading. It’s pretty easy. If you wanted to do audio, you could just use a channel in AUM for audio, and keep that in you recording, I guess you would maybe want to sidechain it.
Watched. Nice.
It’s a long time since I opened polyphase but this conversation has inspired me to do it.
I’m actually surprised how nice the internal synth in polyphase is, it sounds fantastic to my ears, and is actually really nice to include a bit of this in along with the external synths, though I didn’t here. That little session was actually more about noodling with Moebius than Polyphase, Polyphase was literally just out of the box, so to speak. But my plan for today is to actually get to know Polyphase a bit better, really like it.
Sunvox, Virtual ANS, a few more. Drambo is nice for everything but not for really experimental and microtonal things or atonal FX.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I wish there would be a Metasynth iOS, or Photosounder or similar even more advanced tools for ambient (but not only) goodness like Kaleidoscope. But the mobile cpu is not ready anyway i guess.
I dream of such advanced picture to sound tools where i could draw things with a pencil on an iPad in real-time. Maybe 20 years to go?
Otherwise the good old Alchemy app (which allowed also sample import) and playing with rhythmic changes of the morph pads was the best thing ever on iOS.
If Apple just would give us the full Alchemy inside Garage Band.
There are a few tips in the manual. I wish there were more.
Nice! Yes, I’m familiar with the excellent polyphase. I gave minimal feedback during its prelaunch beta, and ended up buying it as well. Cool to be reminded of it though! It’s one of my generative favs.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
