WHAT IS GAIN STAGE VINTAGE CLEAN?
Back in January we released several beta test versions of our first amp simulator plugin called Gain Stage. We intended it to be a very complete amp sim app with all types of guitar amps from country and acoustic to metal and rock. Feedback from testers indicated that they liked the clean sounds but were generally not satisfied with the high gain rock and metal tones. After a few months back at the drawing board we concluded that in order to get good high gain amp tones we needed to start over with a completely different design. However, because some testers were already enjoying the clean and low-gain tones, we decided to release a special version of the app that has only the low-gain amps in it.
The tone of this plugin is noticeably different from other iOS amp sims and also unlike real hardware amps in the sense that it tends to compress more and distort less when you increase the input volume. That can be nice for clean tones because it sounds "warm" and it evens out the volume in a natural way that doesn't sound like a compressor.
HOW CAN YOU GET A FREE COPY OF THE APP WHEN IT RELEASES?
Install the beta version using the link above and make a video of yourself using the app. Then share the video on social media and post a link to it on this thread. I will send you a code to install the app for free when it releases.

Again? Heck, yes.
Seriously, Attack softener is slowly being into my top 5 list.
@Blue_Mangoo. Thanks so much. Will make a video of me using it today 💪💪💪
How much time do we have,
?
Officially, I think this Friday should be the deadline because it's most helpful to me to have the videos when the app is on its first 48 hours on the App Store. But if you play guitar well like @flo26 then there is no deadline for you because a good video with good guitar skill is always worth the price of an app sale, in terms of its advertising power.
Done
Thanks you so much! For these wonderful tones and the chance to get a code by showcasing 👊🏼🙃
And some love on Twitter
It sounds great. Thank you!
I tried reamping a track with it real quick. Not a clean tone, but I really dig the british chime with all the input controls dimed.
@Blue_Mangoo thank you Man! Glad you like it! And thank you for the code 🙌🏼
I've been wondering...does the same person writing the code also designs these interface as? They're really professional.
Yeah! Im in
Thanks.
We are a team of four people, all coders but each with different expertise.
Three people worked on this app:
Hell yeah @Blue_Mangoo this thing rocks!

Riffs flying like covid infected bats
I gotta do some gardening but I’ll be back with the video soon
excited to try this tomorrow!
Thank you @Blue_Mangoo for letting us try this app out via TestFlight. I like it: the guitar-type-selection you made fits my love for clean guitartones (with some crunch for lead sometimes), with the in- and output gain + EQ I can make some adjustments for the different guitars that I have (a P90, a single-coil and a humbucker one), and the UI is straightforward and simple. I have two questions:
1. is Gain Stage Vintage Clean as it is now an Amp + Cabinet sim or do you expect us to use a Cab IR after the amp with room size = off)?
2. are you planning a user-preset manager within the app (for quickly changing gain + EQ-settings)?
The cab sim is included but it is split between the mono-to-stereo and another component that is built in to the amp and can't be disabled.
I don’t like the idea of using cab IRs in amp sims because they don’t do anything you can’t do for yourself with a parametric equalizer and a velvet noise decorrelator. Rather than randomly swapping a list of cabinets until you find your tone, you can get there faster just by choosing any neutral sounding cab and adjusting it using a parametric equalizer.
No. Presets should be saved in the host app. Putting preset managers in a plugin is unnecessary unless the plugin is so complicated that you need factory presets to help you dial in your sound. This one is not that difficult.
Not sure i understand the routing here.
There is an input Mono/Stereo, but both channel controls still effect the sound no matter the position of that switch.
There is a Mono/Stereo switch, but again no matter the position of that switch, both channels still effect the sound.
Put both of these switches on Mono and again both channels effect the audio still.
This makes no sense at all to me.
If i switch input to Mono I expect the lower channel not to effect the sound because it has summed the input if it is stereo, because if it is just for mono input signals then the switches would seem completely pointless, because if only a mono signal is entering the plugin, there is no need to switch to mono input because it has no impact on the channels at all because both channels are separate anyway ?
wrong thread
I love this whole Marketing idea. Thanks @Blue_Mangoo Heres my Video on Twitter. I truly love the sound of this on guitar. Cheers!
The reason for mono to stereo on the output is to create a stereo field for the output even when the input is mono.
The two sets of knobs (upper and lower) are for the input and output stages. They aren’t channel controls.
Yea I was a little confused because when switching presets no buttons or dials changed, but the sound clearly did. Are the presets changing something behind the scenes?
@david_2017 that sounds great. How did you overlay that footage on your screen record. It almost looks like enso has a feature to do that....
Here’s my attempt:

Very nice analog sounds. 👍
Nice @faland is that you playing the axe
Yes, glad you like it. Cheers
Those aren’t presets. They are different amp models. So, there are a lot of behind-the-scenes differences. They have quite different characteristics.
@Blue_Mangoo : any chance there could be some control over the amount of compression? The compression ratio seems pretty high to me.
Still not convinced by crunch sounds.
I think there is still room for improvement.
It does not sound and feel like an amp to my ears.
@Blue_Mangoo here is my effort.
Sorry for bad Facebook post quality.
