So, I made a Patreon...it did not go quite as I expected (ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS - LIVE PREMIERE)

I propose that this forum allows much longer thread titles...
@Samflash3
Maybe you should call this thread how to create a Patreon account.
I have a dormant one which I was about to activate
and seeing the comments so far?
I'm actually going to keep it dormant for awhile longer.
I don’t have much to add here, it’s been really fun(ny) watching, but I think it comes down to the fact we’re just not the target audience for this.
You can’t feed back the things you learned from people at a cost that you learned for free. There’s no doubt in my mind there’s an audience out there for this work, it’s just not gonna be anyone on the Audiobus forum.
@gravitas I don't think anyone is against the idea of Patreon per se, not at all. As I mentioned, I have an active Patreon subscription, others have said the same. I don't think that's the issue under discussion.
@audio_DT I fully agree with everything. Posting a video like this on a tech youtube channel does not seem to be a good strategy to attract new followers. And please keep it friendly.
😂
@Jonny8 +1
I can see that.
The comments themselves put me off, I shall activate my
Patreon in a more welcoming environment in that regards.
Have no fear I shall continue to share my iOS creations.
Attention whore whores for attention. This is the third content-free thread in under a week.
People really must be bored.
What perplexes me is simply your intention.. like, what are you trying to provide with your patreon content, and who are you trying to reach? As I said in my previous comment.. I really don’t think patreon is the right platform to manage or deliver your material. Especially if you wish to reach new people.
Know how I find videos by loopop? I google the gear in question, and his review is listed.
Know where a google search on IOS daws brings me? Jokab Hack.
Know where a google search on synthesizing string sounds brings me? Sound on Sound.
Know what google search brings me to Patreon? None, ever.
So you're relying on 3 entry points to your Patreon content as far as I can tell: Audiobus, Youtube, and Instagram. That's 3 gates many people may never pass, simply because they can't be bothered or don't care. You've already posted twice here on Audiobus about your latest article - but I still haven't been able to read it (I don't have a Patreon account. There's that Audiobus gate, and it's closed). By the time it's finally released 'publicly', either I'm going to forget about it or I'll be ignoring your 3rd post about the release as spam. Post about your content one time, and only when it's ready and accessible. Your new content as been a giant nothing sandwich for me the last 2 times I opened the link.
So I'd implore you to ask yourself earnestly, who is the Patreon for? Yourself? Your followers? Or people researching the topics you write about? The answer to this question should determine if you've chosen the correct platform.
Feel free to address this question in your livestream. I won't be asking it during the premiere though.
edit: grammar
Honestly, I don't understand why it bothers you that this guy wants to put up his Patreon account.
He didn't aim the gun at anyone's temple. I also think it is premature and that it should first create thick contents, but in addition to this, why would you ever have a bitter tone towards him?
Are you not interested in his articles? Don't sign up. End of the problem.
What does he hurt you? It is a little arrogant, true. But young people often do.
Unfortunately, he will soon realize for himself how difficult it is to have patreons and maintain them over time.
Or maybe, in a couple of years we will all be subscribed to his channel because it is the best of all.
+1
You’re a good egg @Faland. +1
I don't know if you were responding to my comment, but I don't mean to have a bitter tone towards Sam. In my own way, I'm trying to offer advice as a serious hobbyist in this field of interest. Perhaps it doesn't come across online. In fact, I did try to access his article. I was curious about this high effort piece he was proud of. But instead of posting his article.. he posted an 'exclusive', and a hyped up countdown announcement.. twice. I'm just trying to offer some advice about how to reach new people.
Mine was not an answer to anyone in particular, don't worry.
Is that, between this and the other thread, we are treating this boy in an unpleasant way, in my opinion without a serious reason.
He chose a complicated path, let's wish him well, what does it cost us?
This is #InSEONNinTheMembrane Just kidding, best of luck Sam.
@aleyas I'll address the reason for the hyped countdown for the video on this thread.
I'm not always available to sit down and answer comments. I (as almost everyone) lives in a different timezone from each other.
But I want to make sure I'm being fair to everyone. I looked at the hours of most activity for the previous post and I found 1pm to be one that allows me to go to the comments and answer everyone's questions.
Have my posts been clickbait? It seems to have been but it was never my intent. We're taught in school to make an attention grabber in our essays, else no professor would read it. But now that I'm reflecting, an attention grabber is pretty much clickbait.
I'll be more mindful of the way my posts come across. I do not want to insult the intelligence of anyone with cheap tricks. At the same time, I genuinely want to write about the content that I want to write about.
I'll address the reason for the Patreon in the video. Rest assured it's not click bait, and I will be there live at the chat on the video at 1PM EST.
I think Sam will have achieved exactly what he wanted, to stir up some interest and intrigue in his videos.
His "I am a IOS producer" and the "everything I do is art" statements made me giggle/cringe but they also made me go take a look.
I was already subscribed to Doug,Jakob,Mitch, Davey for the tutorial stuff they do.
I just found out about @Gavinski and @Soundformore and have subbed to them as it looks like they are very much on a par quality wise with the others.
I also subbed to @echoopera just because I like his tunes.
At the moment I wouldn't sub to Sam because there is very little content and what is there, is nowhere near the quality of the others already mentioned.
It all seems a little bit cart before the horse, but good luck all the same!
Haha man, you never seem to stop being hilarious. I'm being genuine here. I did reference you in the video though. Your jokes were on point.
But since you asked nicely, here's the adult link...
(from Zelda)
I know...rated 18+
(Okay, I'm back to being serious. Thanks for the laugh break, Jolico. I gotta try your Barkfilter version 2 hack)
I rarely (if at all) name and shame but dude...you've been a real arse.

Case in point from the last thread...
Maybe I should ignore posts like this. I probably will. But you've been acknowledged by me. And not in a good way.
I’m off to watch Sleepy Joe and the Demo-Katz or
Cursing, curses, that other guy...
The Duke of Hurl.
I was briefly thinking about that. But it'll be seen as me making content for the sake of making content. And that's not what I'm trying to do.
Respect to you, Gravitas. Thanks for your support. Don't let my experiences sway you from showing your art. I really love the use of glitch effects in your music videos. Thanks for some of the app recommendations.
"I was briefly thinking about that. But it'll be seen as me making content for the sake of making content. And that's not what I'm trying to do."
I hear you, many people where triggered in the
first thread and for some not especially in a good way.
Still, they were honest and that is always something to appreciate.
"Respect to you, Gravitas. Thanks for your support."
Thank you.
Create art and you have my support even
if it's only by subscribing to your YouTube.
"Don't let my experiences sway you from showing your art."
Have no fear of that.
For every piece I upload I normally have about
three to ten unfinished pieces by my standards.
Whether I get paid or not I always share my creations.
I have eight soundclouds filled with original music
and slowly but surely developing my iOS only one.
"I really love the use of glitch effects in your music videos."
Thank you.
They are no where near as refined as I would like them to
be but considering they were done entirely on an iPad?
I'm actually impressed myself and that takes a lot these days.
"Thanks for some of the app recommendations."
No problem, I take my time to get to know any instrument
and I see all of the iOS apps as instruments.
The developers took their time to develop their software,
I have an advantage in that I have a background knowledge
in the Arts but out of sheer respect I will always take my time
to learn an instrument so that if and when I recommend it
I know what I'm talking about.
Though you've started your Patreon, don't step down
from the forum, you challenge and that is why you're
ruffling feathers.
Like I've said I like the way you code.
Grav: I wouldn't let the response in these threads impact your decision to Patreon or not. The negative reactions have zero to do with someone using Patreon of letting people know about it.
If you put the stuff out here and let people know in a humble non-manipulative way, you aren't likely to get negative feedback and are likely to get a lot of support.
I think most of the negative reaction has been the result of OP mis-reading the community's vibe/style/culture possibly with a dose of some marketing strategy not suited to this place.
Thanks. I would hate to see Sam attacked or mocked. It’s not nice, as we all know. I think he’s barking up the wrong tree on this one but it’s no reason to be nasty.
I have to say there is something mildly fascinating about this post (and the last one). I'm so so curious about what Sam is actually trying to achieve, and his approach is so 'out there', I can't help but feel drawn to it to see what happens next. It's all kinda unusual. Not a bad thing.
I hope I can keep your interest, even if it's just for today.
I'll be going into the YouTube chat early in about 7 mins (12:30PM EST to answer any questions immediately)
Hope to see you there. But if not, the video will still be available to watch.
I might just do that. I like a good chat and as I said, I'm curious about how this whole thing is going to wrap up (and lockdown doesn't have much else going on for me at the moment). Personally, I can't stand chatrooms, so if there's actually a way to talk properly in the live video, I might be interested (might being the operative word).
@Samflash3 For the “attention” of Mr Flash - A person who tries to be too detailed & cover his tracks with hints of sly marketing will trip on his own mistakes. You have said the Patreon starts in MARCH. well Mr Flash we can all look forward to whats “in store” in 9months time. All the best with the pregnancy
