@GLacey I'd try restarting the iPad: power off then back on. Also, force quit any potential memory hogs, especially browsers. Then see if it works.
That doesn’t sound good... Then I don’t have a clue
Surprisingly it works fine as AU instance in a host. Loads any of my SF2’s. Fortunately.
@GLacey Try a reboot to make sure you start with "fresh memory".
If that doesn't help, have you updated to a newer iOS in the meantime?
I tried, didn’t help. Yes, I definitely updated the iOS. I always have the latest (not beta).
If I get that message I load the small default soundfont first then go back and load the large one you want to load. I don't know why but it seems to clear your Ram when you do this.
Bs-16i crashes in Cubasis 2 every time I try to use a different soundfont than default. I think it worked fine before one of the recent updates. Would not repurchase.
Are you trying to change the sound font while the transport is running in Cubasis? Bs-16 always crashes in AUM when I forget and try to switch the sound font while the transport is running and it almost never crashes when it’s stopped.
No matter what it crashes. Have tried everything (resets, reinstalls, etc.) Can not load a different soundfont in Cubasis 2, which is the only app I would use it in.
Hi guys,
I use bs-16i and I ask me in it is possible to program midi cc to the controlers. Does anyone know if/ how this works?
Standalone or AUv3?
I don't see a way to do it in the standalone version. In the AUv3 version you can control any of the parameters through the host Midi > AUv3 parameter mapping. Only one patch per instance though, so you'd need to set up multiple instances if you're currently using more than one sound.
Thanks for your answer. I use it as auv3 - instance in AUM as you mentioned it.
The problem: I mapped some prameters in AUM, but the bs-16i instance takes the cc Data as well. For example I mapped the Volume cc 07 to the AUM-Channel, wich worked fine. But it will control the Volume-Knob in the bs-16i instance as well. Even in I dont mapp the Parameter in the AUM-Instance-Parameter-options. Is there a way to block the cc Messages?
BTW, you may have already noticed that bs-16i doesn't show the knob movements from an AU parameter change until the app window is closed and re-opened. For me anyway.
Hi. Is it possible with Bs-16i to split keyboard, with 2 different soundfont (lower and upper) and disable sustain on lower part and enable sustain on upper part ? Thanks
Yes
No
Suggestion: Use two instances of the AUv3 in AUM, and do your keyboard and sustain filtering on the individual instances.
In Aum, I can create two instances with the same midi channel and disable (filter) cc64 (sustain) on the instance for lower range ?
Yes.
The same keyboard midi is routed to each instance, on midi channel 1, with keyboard range set for each and cc64 filtered from the first instance, but not the second.
Instance 1:
Instance 2:
Thanks a lot !! Last question : can I create an instance which receives midi message from a midi channel and an other instance which receives midi messages from an other midi channel. For example : instance 1 : BS-16i with a sound of piano only midi channel 1 and instance 2 : BS-16i with a sound of organ only midi channel 2. And with my keyboard, I can change sounds by changing midi channel. Possible ? Thanks
@jolico Could I ask you if your statement is still valid after 3 and 1/2 years?
I'm looking some sf2/sfz player for my iPad and definitely prefer lighter CPU app.
And I have also general question - Would it be possible to use sf2/sfz files from SD card or USB flash drive?
Disk space of my iPad is quite limited.
bs-16i doesn't support sfz files.
Probably not:
That means they'll be cached on your device, or will have to be re-downloaded on use if iOS decides to free up the space. Worst of both worlds for you if you have limited storage.
@wim Thank you. So BS16 is not for me. I wonder if Soundfonts from Brad Howes or KQ Sampei can do that.
Soundfonts only supports sf2, not sfz. It also appears to use iCloud Drive:
KQ Sampei supports SF2, SF3, and DLS, not SFZ. The App Store description doesn't say anything about whether it works with external storage or not. I don't own the app so can't check. Keep in mind though that while some apps can reach files on external storage, they may still import them to local storage.
@wim Thanks again. Meanwhile I found KQ Sampei thread so I could ask dev directly.
In there any app that supports sfz? AudioLayer? I think maybe the Taqsim app?
AudioLayer supports sfz.
It also supports streaming from disk, which can be hugely helpful when used as an AUv3.
I'm pretty sure it imports files to its own storage (iCloud or Local), so I'm not sure if it's any help for low storage systems trying to use external USB storage.
I’ve got tons of iCloud storage so that would be nice. Thanks though, I’ve been really into decent sampler and SF2 lately and there are some sfz only packs on Pianobook I’ve been eyeballing.
Keep in mind that iCloud storage is actually a hybrid between local and cloud storage and you have no control over what goes on your device with iCloud. No music app ever uses files stored only on the cloud. When needed they are downloaded to your device. They stay there until the operating system decides one day that you need some space and it removes them from local storage. Apps take care of downloading the file transparently if needed, but if you're someplace with no internet you're out of luck.
iCloud isn't much help for anyone with low available storage. Some number of files will still take up local storage, and you have no control over how much or which files.
iCloud is super useful for a lot of things, but solving storage problems for music app users is not one of them.
Right, I’m aware. Thanks 👍🏻
Oh rereading my comment it’s probably not clear. I was trying to be facetious because my storage is now laughably low lol but I’m definitely gonna be downloading some as soon as I upgrade iPads.
You can remove iCloud downloads from local storage whenever you wish. long tap on the file, then hit “Remove Download”, Don’t “Delete” because this will delete it from the iCloud either.
