  • "Say Hi! to your new favourite iOS compressor plugin! ToneBoosters Compressor is an AUv3 plugin for professional, mastering-grade compression and dynamics processing.

This flexible plug-in has all the features you will ever need, such as:

    • Soft knee compression

    • Parallel compression

    • External side-chain input (if supported by the host)

    • Band-limited compression

    • Spatially selective compression

This compressor is suitable for every compression task and beyond:

    • Track compression

    • Bus and master bus compression

    • De-essing and de-harshing using the band-limited compression feature

The user interface shows compression in action, with a real-time and interactive display of levels, gains and curves. Assisted sliders provide guidance to accurately adjust threshold, makeup and range parameters.

Want to hear what signal elements are affected by compression? Hit the audition button and listen to everything that is changed by the compressor in isolation.

The side-chain editor allows you to adjust the frequency response of the side chain, and has an integrated spectrum analyzer. You can select which channels the side chain listens to, including selection of mid or side channels. Obviously we have provided an audition button for the side chain as well!

Imagine you could just compress the mid or side channel, and apply compression to a specific frequency range only. Dynamically make space for elements without having to compress the full mix; de-ess those sibilant vocals in the mid channel; soothe those harsh frequencies; the possibilities are endless. This is all possible with the compression zone feature.

The ToneBoosters Compressor app captures the microphone (or external sound card) input and processes the signals in real time. To use it as a plug-in, use an AUv3-compatible host app such as Steinberg Cubasis, Apple Garageband, Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, Auria, AUM, or others. ToneBoosters Compressor will appear in the list of Audio Unit extensions for effect plug-ins.

    Key features:

    • The same professional sound as the acclaimed desktop version

    • Ultra-low harmonic distortion, even with very short attack and release times (THD less than -100dB at 1kHz)

    • Side-chain equalizer

    • Audition function for compressor and side chain

    • Integrated spectrum analyzer for output and side chain

    • Variable release curve shape and release time

    • Signal-adaptive release

    • Auto make up

    • Range parameter to limit the amount of compression

    • Dry/wet (amount) control for parallel compression

    • Zero latency (for live use) or lookahead mode (for studio use)

    • Interactive user interface with assisted sliders, curve and gain visualization

    • Undo/redo, and A/B comparison

    • Color themes for the user interface

    • Max screen support in Garageband

    • Legacy Inter-App Audio (IAA) support

    • Optimised for iPad and compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch

    Save and export of settings

    • The stand-alone app (and IAA app) can load and save settings (locally on iPad, via iCloud, or via iTunes file sharing).

    • These Saved files can also be loaded into the desktop version of the plug-in.

    • The AUv3 version can export settings to be used in the stand-alone app or desktop version.

    What you should know:

    • Inter-App Audio (IAA) can only use one instance of this app simultaneously. We recommend to use an AUv3 host to use multiple instances.

    • Licenses acquired for this platform (iOS, iPadOS) are not compatible with other platforms.

    • Headphones not included - this is a software correction plugin only for use with your own headphones.

  • Great Apps at Great Prices.

    King

  • Thanks King.

  • This looks good. Their stuff is top notch. I wonder if that’s an intro price at $9.99.

I never bought Reelbus and I see they raised that from $8.99 to $13.99. Morphit also went up a couple of dollars. I have the rest, so I don’t know about them. They must have just done this as the price histories on discchord do not reflect the changes yet.

  • I just found out my wallet has $9.99 less in it. Guess I purchased it instantly.

  • Yeah damn, I just noticed the price hike on these toneboosters apps.
Should of jumped on the rest of them earlier!

No I can’t tell if this would be an intro price too for the compressor, Since the EQ is $7cad more

Oh they're all so great you should buy the ones you don't already own — and then wait to purchase this new app until they raise the price to something more appropriate!!!! 🙄

There is no denying the excellent quality of all their products.

  • It’s really good. Love that you can apply just to a specific frequency - very user friendly.

  • How does this compare to Barricade?

Expanded compression functionality and no limiter from my understanding.

  • Oh god, seems they've hiked their prices a lot. I'm glad I bought all the others when they were cheaper.

Can anyone just say definitively whether this adds anything that can't be done in DDMFs compressors. I have his NY Compressor which is the main thing I use for sidechaining and his MDEs. Cheers folks.

  • Will buy. Tried saving money on reelbus with a combo of cassette tape, lofi dirt, fly tape. Money cant buy OCD.

Tell me more about ‘spatially selective compression’?

Is that more in the realm of MSpectralDynamics?

  • @musikeer said:

And how does it compare to RoughRider3 by Audio Damage that also does side-chaining?

  • Hmm🤔 was there some sort of super shot intro sale? I saw it an hour ago at 10.99€ but couldn’t buy it.
Now its one euro more at 11.99!?!?

It was! Price already went up to $10.99 within a couple hours. Must be a supply / demand thing...

  • Whats cpu like? Needs to be at about 10% otherwise I may just use a roughrider and tb enhancer combo ( with woott making things less tame with that combo ) for my rookie needs. Obviously trying to sound unlike an amatuer.

  • Prob wouldnt use enhancer with woott on tracks unless its easier to enhance master with enhancer but it might just need a good compressor then but still need to know cpu. I will exit until someone replies.

  • Bought. should be good. For those who know compressors are actually low cpu or not. Just saying, its about same as roughrider ( static )

  • Is there any rhyme or reason to that pricing strategy? An intro price that’s valid for a few minutes for those who happen to be awake?

  • Pretty weird, I got it for $9.99 which in Sweden is 119:- this morning. now when I check the AppStore it's 129:- but I've already got the receipt for 119:- so they can't charge extra for an app I've already paid :D

Feels like a pretty ordinary compressor to me that doesn't have too many additional features...
...bring on the 'properl' channel strips with Gate, Expander, Limiter & Compressor with EQ 'sthat are on par with the Allen & Heath D-Live consoles and I'll be happy :D

  • Looks like a very competent transparent compressor, got everything you'd need for general workhorse compression duties. My question is, is it the same compression algorithm that's already on the EQ? It would make sense, why reinvent the wheel. Aside from a few extra compression parameters and a UI focused on compression, fair enough, I'm thinking there's a big overlap. I think a bundle deal would be a better proposition.

  • i'm interested in this for the visualisation and the ability to hear/audition just the compressed signal - both would help me get a good grasp on compression, which I struggle with.

  • The Audition mode is quite nice to hear what the compressor actually does.
I'm still not 100% comfortable with the UI of the TB apps...

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Who would be ..! I really like TB apps but I must say that I tend more and more to turn to simpler knobs solutions like DDMF plugins or GarageBand in-built comp (which sounds great and transparent).

The TB plugins sound amazing, good looking, very low cpu consuming but they are too complex for the amateurs that we are, imho.

Paradoxically, I'm really not comfortable with Klevgrand Korvpressor when the UI is supposed to be accessible to a 10 year old child 😁

Haha, yep way too heavy and over my head. I used a few presets and thought OK this is deep I need a tutorial and way more instructions how to use a compressor and mixing and everything ;)

I like the functionality of the apps but the usage of microscopic and UI elements is really, really annoying.
This doesn't only affect TB, some of the FF stuff is also on the smaller side...

Call me crazy, but most of the time when I reach out for a compressor I go for AD RoughRider 3 on iOS and Mac :D

  • It’s my wife’s birthday today. So I just yelled up at her that I bought her a compressor. 😂😂
