It’s my wife’s birthday today. So I just yelled up at her that I bought her a compressor. 😂

    What if it’s not someone’s wife’s birthday?

    Asking for a friend.

Paradoxically, I'm really not comfortable with Klevgrand Korvpressor when the UI is supposed to be accessible to a 10 year old child 😁

I completely agree. Too much sausage 😂

Ya so I checked and I think you just need to buy it anyway.... it’s somebody’s birthday. Heck you know it could be yours and you just want a head start. 😬😂

The Audition mode is quite nice to hear what the compressor actually does.
I'm still not 100% comfortable with the UI of the TB apps...

Absolutely agree @Samu. I appreciate the different color themes that are available but the layout is still a bit "different". It's not awful by any means, just takes getting used to, especially in a smaller window size as an AU in Auria, Cubasis, etc. I have long thin fingers and I still get fiddly errant inputs if I'm not really precise with the touch controls. I can't hold TB over a barrel for that though, I should get an Apple Pencil but I haven't.

I did think the intro pricing was a bit odd. It was announced it was live at like 6PM for $9.99 and when I bought it at 11PM or so it was $10.99. No big deal, I don't mind supporting ToneBoosters, it was just a bit curious.

It sounds excellent. If you want character compression that's where DDMF's MDE comes in; for transparent utilitarian compression this is really good. Auditioning what's being compressed is so helpful in shaping a mix, as is the FabFilter like frequency analyzer.

  • If I have the FF compressors, is it worth getting this one? I love TB effects so am happy to, but not if it will make zero difference and is just me being an appaholic again!

  • Low cpu ( if others arnt ) then its good for live or always on a session plus its transparent so should be ok always. I only started using compressors when bought this but would maybe use roughrider on drums and think drum apps with good shaping at the original point seem best. Fac and Enhancer here can still be used to change sound more drastically whether sampled or recorded on a bus. Havent tested against Barricades compression for transparency comparison.

  • So Analog and warm presumably are more analog modeled modes.

I'm totally getting this on desktop.

  • Hmmm....

I've still not found a way to set & save the default theme as well as keep the tool tips disabled between launches and/or the AUv3 instances that initiate in any of the ToneBoosters apps!

Anyone who remembers the nick of the TB developer can tag this as I think I'm not alone in feeling a bit annoyed but not being able to set the 'default state' of app / plug-in when it gets loaded.

Ironically, the first thing I do with any of the ToneBoosters apps is to change the color theme to something I can see...
...(totally fed up with 'black/dark backgrounds' as defaults, and yes that goes for AUM too...).

Totally share your sentiments. If you mainly live in AUM you can at least save an AUM preset with these settings and always open that first - less fiddly and slightly less work. Though even better if one could set these preferences globally just once.

  • What is the best way to figure out how much make up gain I need to add with this? I know there’s auto but sometimes I’d like to adjust it. The meters on this aren’t as intuitive on this as other compressors for me

  • Most of the TB apps got an update, have not yet found what the new usability fixes are about :)
    Could be something iPhone related...
...still now way to set the default color theme though...

My thought initially too. Until I had my old iPad next to the new one (old iPad still running the older TB plugins). Then I realized most fonts, the edit menu etc have become at least 20% larger with the updates. So yes it seems they are listening and it's much easier to work with now :-)

By the way the new spectrogram analyzer in the compressor is really nice!!

Thanks for the headsup. Really looking forward to the iOS manual. A bit lost tbh :-/

About bloody time, too! Thnx for the info!

  • Trying to decide between this and one of the Fab Filter joints.

Fab Filter if money isn’t an issue. I like this one still though for a quick one plus it’s universal and I do a lot on my phone but Fab Filter is definitely the best

  • @Fingolfinzzz : Thanks , I’ll take that one as gospel . I’d rather spend a little more at the outset a d get the right one .

  • Nice to see the TB Compressor gaining new features :)

Would still love to see a combined Gate/Downward Expander, Expander, Compressor & Limiter combo.

This would take care of most use-cases when it comes to controlling dynamics especially if the 'boost & cut limits' are not too restricted.

I tend to slap the Apple AUDynamicsProcessor on just about everything when it's available and process most my samples thru it in Renoise but that's just me...

    Cheers!
