DAW’s that work well with older model ipads.
NS2 is fine until i get my track count up past 7 then it gets buggy especially with AU’s. Gadget as well has become buggy with my iPad, to the point where i cant even use Lexington without introducing crackles and pops. I am on a 2018 6th gen 32 gig. Any ideas?

Garageband.
cb2 works fine on my gen6
Maybe just get a DAW that can freeze your tracks as audio like Cubasis. I only have experience with Cubasis 2, Cubasis 3 may or may not be better. I read so many issues I won’t be buying it, but I already have Cubasis 2 and bought it years ago.
The very extreme: These work well on the first iPad, iPad 1.
Sunvox
I wish i could get NS1. StepPolyArp is not a daw and neither is Loopy or Thumbjam.
Zenbeats runs OK on my Air 2, but more importantly has really good track freeze (in my experience, ymmv). That makes all the difference for me. I just freeze and unfreeze as I go, keeping CPU usage under control.
I'll admit, I haven't stress tested it though. pretty ;tight usage here.
I think track freeze is the biggest differentiator. I kind of doubt there are huge efficiency differences between hosts. It's mostly the plugins that load things down and eat up precious ram. Being able to smoothly offload that while bringing it back when needed is key.

Zenbeats is definitely something i need to try.
SunVox won’t record external audio though—or will it?
It does
Thanks!Will it host AUs?
Not a DAW per say but Caustic us a great app for less powerful device.
It doesnt host them but it’s an AB destination and midi sequencer ain’t you can get your AUv3 stuff into it that way. It’s also an AUv3 itself
MultiTrack DAW
AudioEvolution ⭐️
Caustic works on anything.
Multi track daw looks really intriguing.
A 2018 model is hardly an "older model ipad" in my books?
Korg Gadget works nicely with my Air 1.
That's what I thought 😁
We're working to high standards here!
My newest iPad is from 2017 (it's a pro, admittedly) and my daily beater is still an Air 2 which is going strong as ever
iPad 6 here, great price to performance ratio too.
It's not that I'm using my iPad 1 regularly but having it sit inside an Alesis IO Dock next to the keyboard rig to record stereo audio and MIDI simultaneously and have the tracks transferred to desktop automatically over WiFi is a neat thing. (Jailbreak required obviously).
Was that a question or a statement?
What!
I have an iPad 3rd gen in an ioDock and used it as a sound module for Ableton (iSEM etc). I don't need it to do that now as I have V Collection but if I can use it with Touchable it'll be my new Push-a-like
What’s are you using AU wise on those 7 tracks? Including effects.
Last time I've tried Touchable Pro on an iPad 4, it was quite laggy. Performance might be an issue on the iPad 3.
I'm still on an old iPad Air 2 and for me most DAWs works quite well most of the time with light housekeeping with the resources, freezing when needed etc. etc.
I know I can't push it to 8+ instances of Model D or Model 15 with Eventide, AudioDamage and FabFilter stuff on every single track and I guess I could make even the latest iPad Pro's come to a halt if I really wanted to...
Agreed
@brambos just curious sir, have you had to do any special cleaning or Reset/reboots to keep your Air 2 running at top swiftness? I’ve been thinking about a wipe and reboot (mainly because I’ve just got a new iPhone 11 and it’s smooth and fast like jello on a ski slope).
