Yes you can configure the MP-500 midi functionality. The expression pedal range also isn’t perfect. Not always locking up at 0-127. At least you can adjust the range in AUM which I do. So that’s not a problem for me either. Oh and I’m actually using the mini expression pedal by Melo Audio to get the best compatibility (and same style and compactness).
Thanks a lot for all your responses and info, I'm going to try it as soon as I have some extra cash, it really seems better than the Xtone Pro, no wonder why the Xtone Pro has so many paid sponsored videos on youtube, I already put my comments on most of them and luckily some people appreciated the detailed description of these issues and didn't bought it, besides the obvious bugs and issues with the Xtone their customer support is horrible and hostile
Cheers!
Yeah these sponsored videos can be very misleading and are horribly generic! When you look for real life use cases or technical details you won’t find anything. If you watch one you know them all.
I’m glad I could help a bit!
I’m surprised that these devices are still quite rare and not very popular. I’ve been waiting for a device like that since 2012 and was over the moon when I found out about the first ones 😄
But yeah both TS Mega and XTONE are produced by small companies in china with rather bad support. But I’m not too surprised about that. I’m still glad that someone makes theses devices so cheers to all of them. And hopefully they will hit the spot one day and get it right.
Yes, it was really helpful to read all your reviews, the only reason I probably won't buy the TS MEGA-Harley Benton is because of the lack of MIDI momentary control, I really need it for what I do, simple toggle on/off is not enough
The company that should put some effort on creating a device like this is Behringer, they already have the tech and are always affordable and with reasonable quality, if they combine in a portable unit their U-Phoria interfaces with the MIDI functionality of their FCB1010 they have a winner for sure!, or at least they should upgrade their trusty FCB1010 with better switches and USB, that should be a winner too, all the other MIDI controllers that have USB and comparable MIDI functionality are twice the price of a new FCB1010, only the Blackstar Live Logic comes close but it has only 6 switches and you still have to put the extra expression pedals
Thanks mate!
just snagged the Harley Benton MP500, (TS audio Tone Shifter) and want to get it running with AUM and trigger the plugins. anyone have experience with this?
I have the MP100, which I believe is the same for midi control without the audio. On that you can set the foot switches to be either toggle or momentary (in the 2 custom user presets). HOWEVER, my experience is that there is a slight delay on the release message which causes havoc in Quantiloop if you want to use a ‘long press’. You can configure your way around this though, for example using a separate switch to clear a loop instead of ‘long press’.
EDIT: just looked at the MP500 manual, like the MP100 you can definitely turn off toggle for momentary control.
Hi !!!
I have the xtone pro and I want to know if I can connect other extra switches such as the hotone ampero switch or the Rock Stock Dual Footswitch, since I am using the biasfx2 and I would like to have a dedicated switch specifically to change guitars in the guitar match .
thanks!!
Hi! Reactivating this discussion. I‘m considering to get the MP-500. How are you guy‘s experiences after some years?
Yes it’s a good device. Just check that it’s functioning right. My MP-500 had a display freeze issue from the beginning (not effecting its audio/midi functionality though) and now after 5 years it’s not always recognised by my Mac (until I give it a good smack 😄).
I recently bought the OG a used Toneshifter Mega by Melo Audio on Kleinanzeigen and must say it feels great and works flawlessly.
I would always buy it again. Couldn’t miss it in my workflow. I’m a bit afraid that it will become extinct one day as the devs don’t build it anymore.
If you have any specific question feel free to ask.
Thanks! I guess my specific questions will come up once I set up the details. But my general goal is to improvise with my bass. I want to control a looper and toggle different sounds. My go to app would be AUM, but maybe Loopy Pro is a better alternative when it comes to looping. I don’t have a lot of experience with looping apps as I don’t own a foot switch yet (and failed using other methods). I also own Quantiloop and I think also Enso (I have too many apps). The general idea is: Generate some chords in whatever app I‘ll be using, choose a nice bass amp sound, loop a bassline, choose another sound, maybe pitched up an octave, improvise over the bassline, add and remove some effects using the foot switch, maybe start or stop or change the chords with the foot switch, maybe trigger some samples with it or operate a filter that modulates the chords or stuff like this.
Asking from a different angle: Of course I already own an audio interface. I could buy a dedicated midi foot switch and use those together. But those aren’t so much cheaper. So, besides maybe saving a few bucks, would the combined approach with two devices give me any benefit over the MP-500?
I‘m actually doing the same thing. Playing guitar through MP-500/TS Mega into AUM on iPad/iPhone using and controlling many different AUv3 FX, amp sim and Enso looper.
AUM is fantastic for midi assignments. I can realise anything I have in mind. I never tried out Loopy Pro so I can’t speak about it. Never needed more than AUM can offer.
I chose the MP-500/TS Mega because of it‘s compact all-in-one form factor and the convenience of only having to plug in one device and being able to start playing (also not having to put batteries into a bluetooth pedal board - been there before).
I’m using two small expression pedals (also by Melo Audio) with it to control volume and reverb length/level.
It’s a great setup. I never felt limited by it in any way. Sure I’m not as cool as the big stomp box pedal board guys with tube amps. But I saved a lot of money, back pain and setup time. It’s also quite reliable compared to other setups. And it’s always evolving as new AUv3s and AUM updates come out. Yep I really like it 😄
Thanks! I guess I’ll get it.
