  • "Fame" carries risks by exposing a person to more people than they could ever engage with in a traditional community. Those additional relationships can bring unhinged, violent and disturbed people into your circle of contacts.

Wanting "fame" is also a potentially suspect human motivation.

I'm very thankful for the ability to interact online but I do care about some degree of
anonymity. I've been coached NOT to expose my kids in my habits of "over sharing" on the
    Internet.

There are just too many examples of people whose lives were seriously damaged by chasing their need for attention. But as a community we can all be alert to behaviors that
cross lines... several abusive commenters have surfaced here and in many case begged off
when the majority called them out for their aggressive or irrational comments.

We can all contribute... sometimes just by de-escalating situations that surface or
even just agreeing with someone that seems to be seeking validation for a rant.

  • Looking like something out of a horror movie, I rarely get people butting into my conversations with other people, and hurling abuse at me. And if they did, I’d hurl them through the nearest window.

Yet being an opinionated old sod, it happens all the time online. It shouldn’t bother me, but it does, so I can understand how gentler souls than me can take it to heart. I’ve learned (mostly) to ignore it now, though I occasionally bite back.

My lad has a Youtube channel now and I do worry about it, particularly as he has autism and is ultra sensitive. Hopefully I can talk him through any nasties if they crop up.

As for this guy - I’ve watched quite a few of his vids. They’re great, and he comes across as a nice guy. Why anyone would want to have a go says more about them, than him.

yah if I had a kid, particularly one who wanted more out of life than to be a corporate wage slave for ""the man"" (double scarey quotes intended) I would be genuinely scared shitless about the """INTERNET""" and I think rightfully so.

  • Oh, yeah, I didn’t mean to minimize your plight. (Unless you were talking about me!)

I totally agree that harassment is harassment, and it is BS.
