I'd say Mixcraft Pro is really solid with tons of value.
If KORG allowed you to purchase a Gadget without having to shell out for the standalone version as well then this would give an indication of the love or otherwise that they have for it.
I'll be honest, I regretted even admitting I used it. I've been flamed so much over the years for saying it's my main, DAW it's nice to see people actually give it some praise.
Depends on if it’s a 4 inside of 5 or 5 inside of 4. I’m not particularly advocating for this inside of Gadget btw... I’d imagine it would be a headache to implement for Korg but I admit it would be pretty cool.
I’d say the longest ‘loop’ as the dominant one. The way it is now with different length tracks.
Would be cool if the shortest ones keep looping their own length as long as the same scene is playing (so only restarting when a new scene is selected).
Good point @wim. I’m thinking about this from an Ableton perspective where scene looping is not locked into multiples of a bar because you can trigger scenes based on grid values. The grid values determine how long the scene keeps playing before playing the next scene. This feature of Live lets you create interesting polyrhythms by “playing” session view. I wish gadget had this too. The loop brace snapping would still be useful in gadget if you’re letting a scene loop more than once. As @maxwellhouser said this would create polyrhythms. Easier said then done though.
Gadget’s excellent per scene time sig offers similar possibilities.
It was more of a mental exercise than anything. I was just imagining the discussions the Korg team would be having if they decided to do something like that. How to fit it within their existing looping / scene scheme is doable but would have details to decide.
Monopoly is probably where they dropped the ball. That synth should have been a new classic on iOS and not gone right into IAA oblivion.
I’m just saying Korg gadget is pricey, it’s just parted out so nobody pays attention to musical Pokémon. Like, my mc707 has literally made gadget obsolete for my use...bigger faster stronger!
Oblivion? I and many others happily use it and OdysseI and others. They still work great.
OdysseI is a special synth. AUv3 or not, I will continue to use it and iMonoPoly. Both have excellent sound quality.
No Electribe Wave?
+1 to the many facets here, including a German using English, a sentimental thing that is another story...
Gadget is fun and powerful and the sounds can be very tasty
I’ve dissed it over the years but came around especially when I’ve shipped stems from sessions into Auria Pro
That workflow came from the thought experiment from another thread: you only get 3 apps. Mine initially were AP, FLSM and SunVox. The theory was get 3standalone playgrounds with boxes of toys inside then bring them into AP that also has a box of toys. Now I’ve cheated and added the 4th, Gadget, and long may it wave.
@Groby No need to apologize for your lack of English. English isn't a requirement.
Gadget + all IAPs will always be with me as long as it’s possible to export stuff from it.
I don’t care about IAA even though it currently makes sampling Gadget a bit easier.
(ie. no need to create a track, pattern and export).
For some strange reason Gadgets export to AudioShare doesn’t have the same bit-depth and sample-rate options as the other export options!?
And I wish the iTunes export would be changed to Documet Picker so I could export to any location, sure I can export to the Gadget folder and use Files.app to move the files but...
...I can’t even export to a folder inside the Gadget folder as all files are exported to the top level where all the project files are too creating chaos
I hope to see a Gadget update sooner rather than later...
@WillieNegus Yep... that’s my only real frustration with Gadget.
You were using it on you phone right? It’s really bad on my 2016 SE. But also worse than anything else on iPad Pro 9.7
@WillieNegus Contrary to what a lot of people assume (even some Korg support replies I got) it’s the graphics/animations that play a big roll in the cpu heat/battery issue.
Being in the main song screen has less impact than opening a gadget and playing live with the sequence running and piano roll on screen.
I got Deemax because I work in Gadget only (start to finish). I use it on every track before uploading it to ‘gadgetcloud’. But if you export your track(s) and finish elsewhere you probably won’t need it. Korg’s demo shows the difference it makes:
Yeah I don’t use Gadget much because the sequencer absolutely sucks. Very nice collection of instruments though.
Usually when I’m looking for this type of thing to work with I go with caustic 3, sounds aren’t as good but I go for a dirty lofi feel anyway usually and it has a linear song mode.
On my commute I would get about an hour out of my sessions, regardless of host (BM3, NS2, AUM, Gadget etc) once I hit around the 80% CPU mark for about 40+ min, bye bye battery. I also seemed to find (or at least placebo-ize) that warm/hot days are more likely to eat up batteries than cold ones.
Interesting. I am pretty AUed up (insts and fx) most of the time. yah could be the AU insts that are the drain.
DeeMax was also my biggest Gadget purchase regret. Wish I'd thought to make more noise and get a refund, too. Far better for me to stick Gadget in AUM and use one of the many better available options.
Even sounds like Boardwalk music there skipper Can almost smell the hotdogs. And the girls...
Couldn't you export the track and trim it down to where you want it? I'm not sure what you're referring to on the second part. You can export a full track or stems.
I’m pretty sure that if you export an Ableton project it writes separate wavs for each clip. Dunno if that helps.
@ecamburn said:
Definitely does by scene when you export to an ableton project
Yepp, especially since all the built-in Gadgets have a ~10s limit or something like that.
Imagine if Bilbao & Vancouver allowed longer samples and had a snap to division or transient option when automating the start point? That would be so nice...
A direct ’export scene to...’ (put any sampler/audio Gadget here) would make re-sampling a breeze...
@WillieNegus I was just thinking if you want a quick and dirty scene export you could do something like "save as" Name it something else like "Song X- Edit Scene "1etc... Open that session and delete all the other scenes and do the export that way.
Convoluted but it would work. I don't know if they add handles to the exported wav or anything but you could try it. But I would double and triple check that you aren't deleting in the main session...
I prefer it like this (lock to scene would be fine as option of course). In Electribe Wave parameters are saved to pattern, which is horrible if you want to change the volume of a sound (for instance). Then you’d have to change it in all patterns that are part of that song.
Perhaps a workaround for you could be to record (or draw) an automation for that knob in the scene you want. After that, change the knob back to the old position. It will affect all scenes, except the one with your automation.
I find Korg Gadget very useful. However, one of the things that bothers me is the limitation to insert a midifile.
This can only be done into a new project. The option to do this into an existing scene, is not possible.
