Rozeta Scaler alternatives?

Rozeta Scaler is my go-to for quantizing notes to scale and transposing within scales. Are there similar audio units to this? Anything that offers other useful features in addition to what Scaler does?

  • There is a Mozaic script, Scale compendium, which I've used sometimes instead of roseta scaler.

  • ScaleBud is the other one I use.

  • I actually have scale bud but haven't dived in properly. Good to know there is a rozeta alternative. Looking for other things to explore myself as well as to recommend as an alternative when I use Scaler in my vids. I can't think how it could be improved upon, but u never know! Do either of the other two do anything special in comparison?

  • At first glance, the transpose sliders would be something I would really miss if I used Scalebud instead of Scaler. That feature makes Scaler so suitable for live use.

  • I think you have transport options in Mozaic. Scaler is faster to set up, I think. I used the Mozaic script a lot but for my needs, Roseta Scaler is faster.

    Thnx @despego

    My pleasure

  • Scaler doesn’t seem to work for me in CB3. Anyone having success?

  • Simple Scaler is a simple to use Mozaic scaler script. Its inspired by the Art Kern's wonderful MidiFlow Scales app, which unfortunately has never been ported to AUv3. The main differences from Rozeta Scaler are it lets you customize the notes of the scale and has some more options for how to quantize notes to scale. It also has a handy "white keys" mode.

It's missing the input and output transpose from Rozeta Scaler though.

Simple Scaler is a scale filter that allows customizing the notes of the scale. Its options are inspired by one of the early Audiobus MIDI filter apps that doesn’t look like will be updated to AUv3 MIDI.

This is meant to be a quick and simple tool. For an amazing full-featured scale script, check out Scale Compendium by Bryan Appel

Man, this is exactly what I was looking for, a simple and straightforward scaler that lets me choose exactly the keys of the scale! 😃
    Many thanks for this.
I've just tried it and there's only one little issue: When set to "Nearest", notes that are more than (my guess) 3 semitones away from the nearest set note are dropped completely.
I would prefer to have a note always re-mapped to the next nearest note.
Try with a sequence of chromatic notes and simple scaler with only "C" enabled.

Presumably using the quantizer module. It seems like overkill, but if you own Mirack and not Scaler, then you can save some money.

@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr Sorry, could you give me a hint where to find it?

Edit: I've found Tags > Quantizer > Quantum but isn't that one monophonic?

there’s a couple quantizers in there, i haven’t tried it with the midi out yet and i’m not sure which ones are monophonic but you could run 2 of them with a multiples i assume and get into the stereo... i’ll run some tests tonight

  • I know this probably borders on heresy @Gavinski , but I've been playing about all week with a truly amazing little scaling/arp app on my desktop Mac ... Scaler 2 from Plugin Boutique ... does everything you want, everything you can think of ... and then some.

Actually force-feeds me bloody music theory ... can't help learning stuff.

Why isn't this on iOS then?

    Worth a look:

Good to share it here I guess, could maybe inspire someone to come up with an even better ios solution.

Ability to choose exactly which notes to include in the Mozaic Scaler app sounds good, would be fantastic if @brambos added an option like that to Rozeta Scaler! It still seems the best iOS choice for me though.

Thanks @rs2000 - version 1.1 should fix the problem you found with it not finding notes. Silly mistake. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • but ... Drambo can do this too. :D

Sure the CV quantizer can do it but it's much more fun to have big pads and knobs 😁

@rs2000 - I never posted this other one on patch storage, but it's linked on the mozaic scripts wiki page. You build scales by playing notes.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/gh96ndo12a3cbk0/Dynamic Scale Quantize.mozaic?dl=0

    Dynamic Scale Quantize
Builds a custom scale based on notes received.

Initially all notes are passed through and there are no notes enabled in the filter.

    • FIRST KNOB: Turns filtering on or off
    • SECOND KNOB: Right = add notes, Left = remove notes
    • THIRD KNOB: Right = remove all notes and go to add mode
    • SHIFT: Cycle through views

Knobs can also be changed via their AU parameters.

    @wim Very cool. Thank you.
I'm quite happy with the simple scaler though.
The only genius enhancement I could imagine would be to have four preset pads that you can store the current scale to by holding shift+pad or something like that.

That wouldn't be hard to do - I'll think about it.

Hi - version 2.0 just uploaded. Double-tap one of the four preset pads to save, long-tap to recall. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Many thanks for this great enhancement @wim!
This will be very useful in combination with generative sequencer patches when in need to change scale in realtime.
Is there a specific reason why selecting a preset requires a long-press gesture?
Now that I think of gestures, I could imagine other cool uses like good old chord memory buttons for example... 😁

I feel like with a single tap it's too easy to accidentally load or overwrite a preset. All it takes is slightly missing one of the surrounding pads and you lose what you're doing. The detection timeout for a long vs. short tap can be configured in the top of the script, if that helps any.

  • Hey, @rs2000 - sorry, I realized that as-is the script was blocking non-note midi messages. v2.1 passes all but notes through unaffected. Other than that it's identical to v2.0.
