Your making a lot of assumptions, it's not crowd funding.

Yes, I am, that what makes me a human, ability to make assumptions. And no, I disagree, this could be viewed as a form of crowd funding

'Crowdfunding is the collection of finance to sustain an initiative from a large pool of backers—the "crowd"—usually made online by means of a web platform'

The developer IS treating it like crowdfunding, but worse.

They released a tease that got a lot of people excited, then released the underwhelming app with the explanation that they would use the funding they receive to improve the app to what people rightly expected it to be.

I don't really care one way or another about this app, but so far I don't have much respect the dev....

  • There's .99 c I won't ever see again!

Hopefully that's not the only thing that makes you a human :)

You know what they say about assumptions that it makes an ASS (out of) U (and) ME

  • Whatever, this app has already received way too much attention from me. Good luck with your investment guys. When it turns out to be a brilliant app I'll happily spend whatever asking price will be. I don't think Loopy HD or Audiobus would be where they are now had they started like this. I've heard @Sebastian and @Michael talking about how they agonize before releasing an app. It inspires confidence when an app just works out of the box. I.e. If loopy got initially released with 6 loops only and without all the bells and whistles I wouldn't feel cheated having paid a very low price. But to send an app that basically doesn't work is plainly wrong and damaging, especially to the developer but also to trust we have in Apple filtering out the bad apples (npi). I wonder what would @dreamless have to say about his beat machine getting rejected?

Be interesting to hear your thought in a few minutes @gjcyrus after you fire it up.

    Edit. Thoughts

  • Hey thinds, yeah I wished i had read through this whole thread before purchasing as it sucks. I see no waveform, only lines. Choosing the exact loop start/end points is difficult and not sure how to zoom (i was able to do it a few times). Also the algorithm or whatever you call it is nowhere near ableton. I also use hokusai a lot and getting my edited loops from there into mosaik was a bitch too. although that might have more to do with hokusai and audiocopy/paste than with mosaik although on few times it took the loop, mosaik said it was too small or didnt have enough beats?? So lemme get this straight? It doesnt have capability to choose exact loop points (or pretty damn difficult) but at least make it easy to use with an editing app like hokusai where i can chop up the loops there first before exporting to mosaik.

at least this app didnt screw me over like electrify nxt did. this experience has pretty much been one of many final nails in the coffin for relying on ios as a PRIMARY songswriting/sole recording tool. Im not as broke as i used to be a year ago so will be purchasing a macbook and going with proven tools like ableton and ozone. While there are quality dependable apps like audiobus/audioshare that have not only the creative genuis behind them but also quality control perfectionists, the ecosystem is set up that you still need other apps to make songs and the chain is only as good as the weakest link. And there are so many shitty and unreliable apps that make music making a chore, it defeats the whole point of using ios at all to make music. In addition to a laptop, ios is great but ive truly given up hope on using it by itself. for demos yes, maybe but for my life's work and art, hell effin no.

  • Ah well it's only a buck and it's going to be a lot more when it's finished apparently.

    This is their explanation;

    Current Project Status
When developing an audio application, starting from scratch is hard work. And in the case of Mosaik, it has been a lot harder than we thought. Therefor we have currently no other option than to release Mosaik in it's very early stage of development but at the lowest possible price tag - $0.99 / €0,89.

Since the development still continues and since new features like user definable warp-markers or multiple tracks are about to be released in the next update, this is an opportunity to get Mosaik at one eighth of the price it will be sold for when the next update hits the store.

This major update will definitely include the following things:

    Audiobus support with input/output.
    Real-Time audio recording.
    Note Onset-Detections
User definable and moveable warp-markers. This will add elastic audio features to Mosaik.
Multiple Tracks of up to 16 playing simultaneous, arranged in a grid of multiple sample cells.
    Improved audio quality.

  • Notice that it says one fourth of the price on the notice inside the app ;)

  • And the point that they had "no other option" is interesting, as they indeed had the other option of not releasing until it worked as initially promoted.

    He got you to huh?

Typing in synth in the App Store will turn up droves of non-updated apps. It seems a lot were from a time before the $10-20 premium price tag. Big difference getting burned for 0.99 vs 11.99. Although a couple of my favorites are not being actively developed (assuming) and sound/function great today.

If this particular app is not going anywhere, maybe they should hand it off to somebody with a passion for software development. I fully knew it was a gamble before I purchased, sometimes a payoff takes time and sometimes it never comes.

To the purchasers, hold tight, no other choice. This may be a bumpy ride.

  • Mmmm...
I was thinking: Why should I buy the "larval" release of Mosaik while Sliver can do the same things?

  • For what it's worth, I went looking to see how development was coming along for my $.99 investment, and found that the app has been removed from the app store a while ago.
Oh well...I'm sure it can find use as a wave mangler or something.
Looks like it was a cash grab after all.

  • Pretty fucking upsetting to say the least

  • d(--)b is still on Store. ;p whtat a difference.

  • Well their web site was taken down and looks like they are out of business so I guess that it. http://www.ndvr.co/mosaik

This company also made midi controllers that were not much better that the crap app mosai(k).

  • Not surprised here. Grab the cash and run seems to be pretty common theses days with all these early access and kickstarter things.
