    This is the only thing in your dissertation-length post I'm interested in @McD. :smile: Well, that, and your droll references to pooping. I'm enchanted by Karen Carpenter. The fact that you met her, in person, I shall ever hold you in the highest regard. Or at least until the next thread about an app sale pops up.

    I literally turned a corner a "ran into her" outside the CSULB Choir/Recital Hall. I thought Holy Shit it's
    "that voice". It was like spotting a deer just around a tree. She was back on campus to rehearse with the
    Choir for a fund raiser I learned later. It was a secret rehearsal because fame was already starting to
    encroach on the life of a very shy and delicate human. She was one of those painfully shy girls that could make herself look unattractive to the opposite sex with body language. I was starstuck by her vulnerability and immediately sensitive that she didn't need me to show that I recognized her and might spread the word so that she'd get mobbed on the way out. I respected that and gave her the privacy she seemed to need.

    It'a a blessing that Richard was able to get her to share that gift with the world. My mother had a singing voice that came close to that sound. My dad spotted my Mom at a talent contest in the 40's and fell for her voice. She was also a very reluctant performer but I could hear the voice when she laughed. I spent most of my childhood making her laugh.

    Sweet story in many ways. Thanks for sharing. Feel privledged to have unique personal insight into Karen and your mom.
