Yes, really lovely stuff Mike!
So I've watched the bit of the video that explains the differences but there's still one thing I'm not clear about. Ok so you can't trigger the sounds with standard Midi keyboards or with apps that produce standard Midi but can you trigger with an app that generates MPE like Velocity Keyboard? Can I load GeoShred as an AU Instrument in an AU host, add Velocity Keyboard as an AU Midi FX and then play the SWAM sounds with Velocity, for example?
Would like to know @Gavinski as it may well determine whether I purchase now or wait for the standalone SWAM app.
You can indeed, it can be played with virtual mpe keyboards, like the Roli Seaboard, the Morph etc, or by virtual ones like Velocity Keyboard or Kb-1.
Thanks - that's great. Think that's made my mind up then. I use Velocity Keyboard and my Linnstrument mostly so the Midi Keyboard issue isn't really much of a limitation and it's cool to have them immediately accessible in GeoShred too.
The quality of the sounds available on iOS has taken a major leap forward over the last couple of months. The Orchestral Dreams stuff in Module is great as are the ZC1 sounds in the recently released ZenBeats 2 and now SWAM as well!
Is the orchestral stuff in korg module really that much better than the various sound fonts etc floating around? Are they sample based or also some kind of modeling? @charalew
Sounds good, but no way to demo them which I think would help. Might get the Cello one at some point
Afraid I don't know the answer but suspect they're sample based as it's a 1.07GB download. They sound great to me but haven't experimented too much with sound fonts recently. But for £9.99 you can't really go wrong (if you already have Module) and you can demo them first with the 7 day trial
If only we had some proper musicians around here.
Superb.
Beautiful!
Gavinski how well you now that we are appoholics and you are just pointing your fingers to yourself too. Look at your self in the mirror and say out loud "Hi, I'm Gavinski and I am an appoholic" LOL
The difference is that you found a way around to get your fix for free by working for the applords with your videos. It is a whole lot of work that, by the way, all of us enjoy. Your videos are killing it
Oh yeah, guilty as charged your honour, you won't catch me denying that 😁
They definitely sound better than sound fonts. Have not gone through everything yet but some very good stuff in there.
I'm a bit confused about the post... Was this song done with GeoShred? It's really great.
Nice, but i hoped the "full" SWAM thing would be around on iOS. When there is a major thing missing on iOS it is great solo strings instruments (and winds, brass etc. as well) with "real" legato. Without legato and portamento style playing strings are pretty lifeless, especially as single instruments. Geoshred with SWAM seems to come as close as possible for now. Still a bit synth like sounding but nice. It just can get better in the future.
Hello,
I asked also this question to myself... For me BeatHawk’s extension packs remain better than Module/KApro.
I mean KApro is very dreamy and you can have immediate fun with that.
But Beathawk has the most realistic strings/choirs/brass. They have fast attack that you can slow down with velocity or CC mapping (KAPro is mainly slow attack), brass expression can be wheel-controled and if you combine Beathawk with velocity keyboard + velocity filter, these extension packs sound incredibly realistic and expressive !
So... in terms of connectivity, I see from comments that the SWAM sounds in Geoshred cannot be triggered via midi, only through Geoshred or MPE, so any recording in a project would need to be audio only. Is this essentially correct? This is keeping me from pulling the trigger from buying the sounds which I agree are very nice indeed.
Trying to figure out why GeoShred Pro isn’t showing up under Audio Unit extensions in AUM. GeoShred Play is, but not GeoShred Pro...
Any ideas?
I know for a fact that you can record Geoshred as MIDI into GarageBand, with some limited editability of the MIDI data (timing and velocity), and I believe this is also possible in Cubasis 2 (not sure about 3).
My GeoShred Pro appears correctly in ApeMatrix, if this can help...
Maybe your Play version is conflicting with your Pro version. If this is correct, try to uninstall it and test again.
I haven’t looked into whether this does midi out, actually. I would recommend taking a look at the manual, which is contained in the app but must be on their site. I’m too busy to check that for you. But if it does send midi out, it would be mpe midi so your host app would need to be able to handle that. I believe Cubasis can. But again - best to double check with @moForte or another user who knows more about this aspect than me.
That’s weird, I’d ben tempted to try a power cycle of your ipad and if that fails try a reinstall.
@Paulo164, there is attack and release controls for strings on Module. Touch outside the menu box in AU, tho the attack control isn’t great. But I agree, you don’t get much choice in the type of string sound. GeoSWAM offers a lot a lot more control. I think it’s 50-50 with BeatHawk and Module. You just pick the best sounds. As for brass, I prefer iFretless Brass and Sax to Beathawk. And let us not forget PureSynth.
ISymphonic, OTOH, feels a bit old in the tooth.
@richardyot and @Gavinski
Thanks for your responses. I will investigate further.
Yes but what I mean is when your sample has a slow attack, reducing the value of the “Attack” knob doesn’t help. At least, that’s what I have observed with most of the KAPro choir presets. However, I keep thinking KAPro expansion packs are very interesting. If you want to enjoy an ethereal Mont Olympus divine choir then you have it 🤲
Uninstalling Play and restarting the iPad did the trick. Thanks guys..
I confirm for Garaband. But the MIDI editing capabilities are indeed very limited. So limited I am not sure that “audio only” recording in a project be really an issue. I mean, try to edit the midi events of a GeoShred guitar inside GarageBand and all is screwed up. You have to record it again.
@Gavinski : on answer to your question about Module: strictly samples for their strings and pianos. Other than the new hybrid synth , it is just a ROMpler.
You can fix minor timing errors (and also adjust velocity), which is enough for me anyway. YMMV of course. It's still more versatile than audio only since this allows you to fix a performance without needing to re-record it.
Agreed. For the record, recorded well in CB3.
EDIT: Although once I start recording some automation of the sound the notes still play but disappear from the screen...
wait what app was this in. this recording sounds excellent
