  • I like that different colors per octave feature this has. Wish the Linnstrument had this

  • Yea looks like an interesting approach

  • Looks like the standalone has built in instrument for testing. Anyone know what sound it is?

  • Thank you sir, forgot that.

  • Looks cool, but not AU. Every time I bought something like this that isn't AU, I never end up using it

    Ditto

  • Meh. Not a fan of the shape symbols idea. Plus the symbols seem to be arranged so that a chromatic scale from crescent to crescent would be a zig zag pattern between two rows (I don’t see any other way), but the octave colour changes halfway along on the top row only...

I also think the colours should have been different for each note in an octave, with each octave getting a bit darker as you go lower.

    There are better alternatives IMO.

  • Looks interesting but won't purchase until it's AU. No point in replacing one set of symbols we're already familiar with (letters) with another that we're not (shapes). Like the idea of colours for octaves and also like the suggestion above of using a colour gradient within the octave. An AU Midi FX keyboard issue something I'd purchase...

Curious what those better options may be? I'd love to find something similar to the Linnstrument. This is still young so hoping dev can incorporate some of our wishes :)

  • expressionPad occupies similar territory and is very configurable. I remember messing with others, but I don’t remember which ones offhand.

  • I’ve had a root around on my iPad and can’t find what else I remember playing with, so it may be something I had on my old iPad and never reinstalled.

Works ok standalone, not sure if I really 'get' the concept but it's an interesting take on controllers - May see if the dev has got any plans for AU.

    Would it be this one?

  • Not the same but Mozaic has a script, forget what it’s called, where you pick a scale and all the notes have variations of weather symbols above them, For example if there is a Sun above the note its good/typical note to play next. It changes with every note played.

  • Synthcaster is a pretty good, low priced controller.

  • First iOS 14 only app I’ve encountered. Looking forward to buying eventually. Bummed I’ll miss out on the intro price.

Not one I own, so probably not.

    That doesn’t sound like Mozaic...

  • Lol. I was imagining something a bit more playable...

  • Will it record the internal sound and play it back?

    Looks cool 😎.
    Nice find @Poppadocrock!

Yea man, your welcome. Actually thanks to you too cause I couldn’t remember the name of it.

Very similar, but decidedly inferior to Musix Pro which is extremely customizable; FormKey doesn't even have glide -deleted immediately after trying it out.

Another very cool controller to look at is ChordMaps 2, and of course the classics like Thumbjam, GeoShred, Fugue Machine and the like in case anyone is unfamiliar with these.

Hi everyone! I'm the maker of Formkey. I would have been in here a long time ago but I had no idea about this conversation. So first let me give you guys some links explaining everything.

This is the basic concept behind the underlying music language called Form. I'm not showing duration yet but it's just a simple as the rest of the language:

And here's an explanation of FormKey:

If you guys have questions or feature suggestions feel free to reply I'm listening. I'll be responding to as many of these as I can.

Hey sorry you didn't have a great experience. Glide is coming there just doesn't seem to be an easy way to implement it using SwiftUI which is what FormKey is built with. I'll have to dig into UIKit to get the feature in but it's coming

Yes we do! The next goal is to add a modular synthesizer and sampler.

It's a synth I configured in AudioKit I just played around with the settings until I found something I liked. But I'll retain it as a preset in the future if you like it.

The problem I have with tools like this is that I have already learned to play on a piano keyboard, so I don’t really need to learn a new paradigm, especially one that doesn’t yet have broad acceptance.

Not being AU is something that I think a lot of people will have an issue with, so hopefully that gets updated.. Good luck to the developer, but I’ll pass on this.
