  • Love having a free day and fun stuff being released at the beginning of it (released at 8:30 in the US)

  • My release of the year! I think Hainbach and Bram made it for me?!? 🤔 incredible

So initial thoughts.. fantastic app. Love the texture it gives the sound. Snapping to musically relevant tape speeds is brilliant and makes it easy to dial in the right sounds too.

One thing I think could be improved on though is exposing 'record' to midi, both from an accesibility standpoint, and from a functional one. As it is now 'record' is by manual press only. This app wasn't designed with perfect loops in mind, but it could be tricky if you're playing guitar, violin, or anything else two handed. Personally, I'd like to see 'record' exposed so that one could record on several instances simultaneously (as the app doesn't import audio files). Bram Bos is aware and said he'd think about it, in the premiere.

But I digress, buy this now!

  • Oh my god, watching the Hainbach premiere and apparently you can shake your device to introduce warble. That is utterly joyful.

This was my main takeaway from the launch-chat too.
Know that I've heard you and I'm thinking about how to best do this (at the very least in the AU plugin version of the app, because I think in the standalone field-recorder use case it would be less compelling).

Seems solid after 10 minutes of looping. Does as advertised, no hassle like enso or most other loopers. Another victory for brambos.

This is an Enso killer for sure, in some ways. Though Enso does record sync which this doesn't, so it still has that!

Agreed, Enso is just going away from my ipad.

The record button seems to have 'toggle' behavior for durations shorter than the current loop length. I think extending that functionality to devices like foot controllers wouldn't be too much in conflict with Gauss' design or performance philosophy.

Either way, I thank you kindly for considering it.

I think this could possibly be my number one app of the year too!

  • I like that I just recorded a loop from a Beatles song and was able to mangle it so hard with this that I could get it by copyright laws

  • got it ! congrats @brambos @Hainbach

  • I just got it too. I was a bit cold towards music on iOS but this has warmed me up again!

Best launch of an app to date.. along with Live Tutorial in 5 min..

ya that’s excellent way to introduce an app!

this + enso could be fun! this app is certainly more stable and has some great features, however theres something special about that enso gui that i love and the saturation / hiss section.

side note: i would def love to see the play/pause button sync with aum transport at least , with multiple instances going when i pause the aum project gauss keeps looping 😣

to have it start recording quantized would be great but i get the appeal of having it open as well, i can make that work!

  • Cool app.

    Thanks.

Yes, totally. It's not ideal for us aum jammers. You can get something great going with multiple instances in a session, but when u open that session again it likely won't sound anything like what it sounded in the last session 😂

haha indeed, i think we need to record the performance before leaving as when you return the loops are going to be all over the place with their start points! i’m glad i grew up recording to tape in the 90s so i have experience with the analog experience so it helps me now as it becomes part of the digital world

  • I wouldn't call it an Enso killer.

Haven't studied in detail, but initial impression was can't most of this be done in enso already? For instance you can set up some sequencer to send to the Enso speed au parameter.

  • The sequencer is the main thing this has that Enso doesn't. And it's a much faster and more intuitive workflow imo! But actually they could work together. Because this has no record sync, you can use Enso for that and then loop from that onto Gauss!

  • @brambos just a heads up... the manual page says **woott poster ** in the browsers title.

  • Nice one - thanks Hainbach and Bram Bos for the little nudge to leave the comfort zone :)

I just had a cool half an hour that started with random bs16i piano notes and chords into Gauss, mangeling the result with trigger rythms and speed changes and the internal delay into an outwourldly, glitchy and hypnotic loop. And then improvised other instruments running through various FX above that - it was a lot of fun and i didn‘t even start the host clock...
