Play it through the speaker of an old iPhone running Streemur into the mic of the Gauss iPad? No way Hainbach would disapprove of such methods!

That would be cool, but it loads as an IAA in hosts too if you prefer.

Haha! So my next suggestion of using tin cans connected with string is unnecessary then?

    Not at all.
That might be the best suggestion yet.

    Really loving this app!

I noticed @Hainbach used only the internal mic in his demo. What is the feeling about using only the internal mic vs connecting a higher end mic to record from? Will Gauss even use an external mic in standalone mode? I know it uses the internal mic and not the mic included with wireless headphones... but if you connect a mic directly via lightning port or headphone jack, will Gauss use it in standalone mode?

And, what’s the consensus of the iOS device internal mics? My impression is that they’re actually pretty decent, but I’m curious about what could be gained (other than pickup pattern) from using one of the 3rd party mics designed for iOS devices.

When I use Gauss inside AUm I use Brusfri if I use internal mic. Brusfri is an expensive app but clears ot the internal hum and any background noise giving you a much clearer signal/recording.

    a must have !

  • Definitely, Brusfri is brilliant

  • Mad app man.

Hope record via midi and off, trig, loop can be mapped to controller. Need screen for mononoke etc.

  • Would you be able to add a scroll via knob through off, trig and loop.

    Thinking of buying another controller.

    Thanks

  • Bram. Let me know asap if you can add code to toggle through off, trig and loop via knob. Left, middle and right as controller dosent have buttons. Plus controller will be good for ripplemaker.

    Thanks.

So Gauss fans.. I think Drambo may be the new ideal host for this app. The automation is smooth as butter. I just modulated the tape loop speed with a sine lfo - no stepping at all. It can even modulate at audio rates. Sooo much easier, with way smoother results than routing midi lfos in Aum.

No videos yet, as I was only testing, but I’ll surely upload some later!

Buttery smooth right!? And mapping parameters is is like instant.

    I think I’m in love 🥺

Dude, a really cool thing I just tried is to put an AD amp envelope after Gauss, and place a few trigs on the sequencer. Turns it into a synth voice kinda. And you can map pitch to tape speed also and play the tape from the keyboard/sequencer.

This is gonna be one looong rabbit hole

I haven’t used the lfo’s in apematrix yet, but I am pretty familiar with the ape lfo’s in all their other apps. What I’m finding is that mapping parameters is really really fast and immediate in Drambo. Also, it’s not limited to LFOs, but also envelopes, or step sequencers, or even following the pitch of the keyboard. Also, the lfo’s can be key tracked, or have their rates modulated by other lfo’s - which is something I don’t think apematrix can do. Apematrix lfos go up to 24 hz, and the Drambo ones can go up to 130 hz. Greater variety of lfo shapes in Drambo also, as well as the ability to wave shape lfos in real-time. Lfo phase is also something you can either adjust or modulate.
Just so much! I’ll definitely be making a video for this.
Maybe this update will be the one to finally push you over the edge to Drambo lol 😂

    Uh, Drambo! ;-)

But, seriously, it’s all the things you can do before or after. Rather than an lfo you can p-lock the modulation. You could use a graphic shaper instead or one of the step sequencers. You can send the output through an x-fader and choose different fx chains at different times or the same time.

For “just” silky-smooth lfo modulation though? Probably not.

Well, it still remains silky smooth at audio rates up to 130hz, so a wider range.

Great idea with the crossfader! Could put 2 instances of Gauss before the x-fader and morph between them. Deep rabbit hole man.

It’s brilliant - you could map record in Gauss to the ‘R’ key on the keyboard, and overdub to ‘O’ lol B) - just tried it and it works

Parameter mapping in apeMatrix is arguably more accessible, given that AU modulation is what apeMatrix is all about.

apeMatrix's controllers, which are reachable with one tap, include 7 kinds of LFO, aftertouch Y scrub (keyboard), 2 axes of accelerometer, full MIDI mapping, and then, taking it all to a higher dimension, the 4-corner preset snapshot pad, where a single swipe can morph between 4 preset snapshots.

wow! nothing is more portable and convenient than that!

  • Yeah it’s awesome in Drambo, one of the things I was most excited for. I’m able to sync things up a lot better with it and then I can just save stuff with flexi

They’re different beasts for sure. I’m not very familiar with parameter mapping in Apematrix, but I’m quite familiar with their modulation section as I own just about every apesoft and amazing noises app there is.

I’m not saying it’s not accessible in apematrix to assign controllers, but that’s it’s also a single tap to map in Drambo - where you can set your own mod sources, and the mod sources modding your mod sources, and so fourth.
