  • @sinosoidal I love LK, please make it work with pro so that I don’t have to jump ship. I am a happy customer :-)

I can confirm the Pro is significantly better than X. I’m not sure if it’s $200 better or not but I will say my X is for sale now that I have the Pro.lol

That s the big question. Is the touch sensitivity difference large enough to justify the large additional outlay..particularly since a Launchpad X refurb is only $129 from Novation.

  • The x can do the separate four grids to different midi tracks right? Can the pad lights be dimmed to very low?

Anyone made a sysEx streamByter/mozaic script to run a new launchpad in session mode / mixer yet?
...i.e. for an app or DAW i.e. AUM or Audiobus or Drambo?

I use the X or Pro with MIDIFire / StreamByter all the time for controlling iOS apps with cool stuff. A great way to create layouts that randomise parameters for those apps that don’t have randomise.

Can I use the Launchpad pro to play my digitone without any computer or anything else?
I am still searching for a usecase and wonder how useful it could be for iOS/PadOS only?!? Any the digitone.

The Launchkey is still too huge for my little music corner I have atm. Thanks for insights.

Yes, you can connect these to each other via midi or USB & CCK. What is even better is that you can set up Custom MIDI widgets to control Parameters of the Digitone. You would obviously need to set these up with a PC via the Components site first, but after that it’s plug n’ play!

@audiobussy , @SpookyZoo would you mind talking a bit more about how you use the Launchpad in iOS?. I have no idea.
How useful is it for daw control (Zenbeats ) ?. I’m guessing it’d be more straightforward with AUM.
What about the sequencer?. I didn’t know these things had one. Do you record the midi output to the iOS app?.
    Transport control looks useful,
    Thanks!

For me, the custom layouts you can build on the Launchpad layouts with MIDI widgets are what makes the LP hardware a great combo with iOS.

I should mention early on that depending on your model of iPad, a connection with the LP hardware may require external power.

I personally use either the Novation Audiohub or the ESI M4U ex in my setups but any powered hub or CCK3 would do this job.

Using these custom layouts with StreamByter rules in the middle, opens up a whole host of fun MIDI control possibilities.

Want to press a button on the LP and trigger a random value of Filter frequency in your iOS synth? Easily done with a LP and StreamByter script.

Both the X and Pro have custom layouts that can do that 4 grid to 4 channel layout.

I’m away from my gear atm so I can’t be 100% sure, but I do believe there is a hi/lo LED display mode setting for each. Whether these match your ‘very low’ definition I couldn’t say for sure.

What I would say though is that the LED’s on the MK3 and X devices are far less brighter than on previous models.

  • @SpookyZoo cool, lights were a wee bit too much for me in the older ones. Might give a new one a go. Thanks

Some Launchpad X are more responsible than some Launchpad X so I'm not sure I would pay more just for the sensibility of the pads.

  • I caved, I hit the buy button on Amazon and ordered the Pro model, which is the only one that makes really sense for me/iOS. Watched one video after another last night and this morning the „purchase button“ was the only solution haha - I am excited how this will fit into my setup.

Idea is playing digitone and circuit live with it, as well as using it for iOS. The size is awesome for my limited space I have, so my Launchkey landed on eBay. It just too big for me rn. A fantastic controller though

  • I watched the loopop video on Launchpad X vs Pro and he said that according his non-scientific test the pads on the Pro are more sensitive....Humm, I'm curious to know if it's a lot more sensitive than the LPX. Maybe I will buy one after all.

See the video a few up where several x’s and pro’s were compared. The conclusion was Pro was a little more sensitive, but the impression I had is that the difference was not huge. I guess a big question is whether one will make use of the added functionality in the Pro.
