Excellent - I have Beathawk and Auditor too!
This is awesome!!!
Thanks
I hope people find it useful
Thanks
Got the AUM template to work, but the other eg pulse keeps opening a text file in a new tab
Don’t have an option to open in pulse etc
Does this contain the sound files for eg pulse ?
Sorry to be a donut
I'm sure it's not your fault, mate. Its really easy to make the EG Pulse file anyway - it's just a blank template with all the pads set to HOLD and the MIDI values set from 52 continuing consecutively down to the bottom (hope they makes sense)
Many thanks again @PeteSasqwax
Will look again tonight once kids in bed
Stay safe
@PeteSasqwax That’s a pretty cool combo.. 👍 Our endless search for Ableton on iOS lets us discover new methods + workflows.. that’s not a bad thing..
Appreciate the demo + the template files.. will have to test this out over the weekend..
Oh, and the LK template is saved in the AUM template.. that LK template could be saved within LK itself if need be..
I would agree with @krassmann about trying this in Zenbeats.. definitely not for everyone.. but I believe it’s the closest all-in-one Ableton style workflow we have.. so far.. 🤷♂️
This LK + EG Pulse is very interesting though and as you mentioned, once the templates are set up, it’s load + go..
@Nicebutfun I had a similar issue with the EG Pulse text file.. just save it in somewhere in your files and then open it from there.. all I did was tap it and it opened in EG Pulse..
Ah, that's very handy to know - thanks @royor I will try Zenbeats again but have looked at it previously and didn't take to it for some reason. I'd imagine Roland are putting some serious resources into it though so it might be something that proves to be more useful at some point in the future.
My pleasure @Nicebutfun - hope it proves useful!
Thanks that is a very useful. I’ll try it out
No worries at all. Hope you find it useful!
I still have to watch your video @PeteSasqwax, and happy you already found a solution with EG Pulse.
But you being the Koala guy, I was wondering why couldn't you use it? Because of the choke groups?
Disclaimer: I'm pretty basic with Koala and know nothing like Jon Snow
Hehe Hi, Jon
Honestly, the only reason I haven't used Koala for this is because of the lack of multiple outputs. If it was just that it didn't have AUv3 I could have got around it using it as IAA but that limits me to a single instance and I need to output different elements to different channels so that I can apply different external effects chains (and also I can output them to different physical outputs within AUM which allows me to send each virtual channel to a different channel on my mixing desk)
EDIT: Koala does have choke groups too so that isn't a problem
You mention Hold a few times, but it does not look like the Hold button is highlighted in your video (1:50)? I suppose the choke groups do the needed job, and all samples cover the entire clip length.
Anyone know how to import that egdr file? I couldn't find a way in EG Pulse. Maybe the better approach is to export and import a kit, as an egkit file(?)
Hold is just a toggle on EGP. It's one of a number of playback modes (Latch, Shot, Hold).
I think one of the posts earlier suggested how to open the EGP file. Hopefully that should sort it for you.
That makes a lot of sense! Thanks
@royor thanks
Will try again tonight
Stay safe
I see, my fault for not remembering - too long since I worked in Pulse. Maybe this is a good purpose for bringing that app back. If you find Beathawk or any other app more suitable then do let us know:) Maybe the app with the best time stretch quality is the better choice.
I quite like this approach to looping audio with LK inside AUM.
I do have Beathawk so I'll give that a try at some stage too. When Koala gets multi-outs I'll definitely do a version that uses that as well - especially when the timestretching functions are added.
BH doesn't (sadly) have multiouts. So, one would need multiple BH instances. That being said, I find BH handy for this thanks to its being able to handle appleloops (hence auto time-stretching when changing tempos)
Is BH AUv3? For some reason I thought it wasn't (which would mean no multiple instances)
standalone or AUv3
Ah, excellent!
I‘m really intrigued by this approach. Thanks for the video @PeteSasqwax. Love your intro music btw.
So I setup something similar with Beathawk yesterday and it seems to work as expected. What I try to do is mimic the Launchpad (App) workflow inside AUM rather than the Ableton workflow (never used Ableton).
Something fantastic I actually achieved today is exporting an appleloop via Auditor and puting it into beathawk. Now BH really time stretches the loop according to host tempo 🤯 Not sure how reliable it is, though.
Since EG Pulse just joined the black friday sales I have to evaluate if it would bring something to the workflow that Beathawk can‘t. Obviously it has multi-out, but that‘s not enough to justify a purchase for me. Maybe @PeteSasqwax or someone else can help me answer these questions:
On another note: does someone know if it is possible to batch-convert files to appleloops in Auditor? I cant find anything so I guess not.
If it’s an AIFF, this might help - https://routinehub.co/shortcut/7621/
Auditor can batch-process simple AIFF files. Appleloops seem to add something to that AIFF file. Don’t know the technical details. 🤷🏼♂️
Actually didn’t know that about Auditor. Didn’t have the app so it was easier to make it into a shortcut.
@seonnthaproducer you seem to be quite good with those shortcut scripts. 👍🏼 I actually use a script that you posted for extracting audio from videos. 🙏🏼
I have to get behind shortcuts at some point. 😅
Write to @LivingMemorySoftware (Auditor’s programmer) to let him know that you would find this useful. Coincidentally, I just sent him a request to add AppleLoop conversion as a batch process.
AppleLoops have slice, tempo and base pitch metadata. So far, GarageBand, BeatMaker and BeatHawk are the only iOS apps I know of that handle them though I am sure there are more.
That’s some good insights. I‘ll try to get in contact with @LivingMemorySoftware 👍🏼
Thanks. Learning as I go along. There’s things I wish were a bit easier but it’s always fun whenever it does work.
