Yeah i mean this whole thread was about personal preference ;) Yes DS can live-record patterns but Pulse offers the comfort of being able to switch patterns with a tap on my pad. Basically everything I wanted could also be done with Patterning so I still got that one to fall back to. And yes, Atom or Photon would absolutely work to quickly tap in a pattern, they just offer less possibilities to add further automation once you've recorded a pattern. LK was also a nice discovery. And if I wanted to do a full song, I'd just use zenbeats' internal sequencer. So now that I've got lots of different possibilities at hand, it's time to make some music ;)

they’ve added it recently I believe.

They've added it today, I believe.

It certainly turned into a personal preference thread.
But I stand by suggestion, in regard to the title and OP.
    It does this.

The other replies by me were an attempt to clarify that the app is not rendered useless because you can’t trigger patterns by midi, it just has a Song mode to build structure instead.
If you don’t like Song mode, that is on you, not the app.

This is different from Drum Computer not recording live input. It simply can’t do it. That is a shortcoming of the app.

But then you have fixed lengths of your segments, vs. changing to the next pattern whenever you feel like it, which would be better, or should I say, essential, for improvising/noodling around... Of course you could still change patterns whenever by just opening the app, but you can't bind it to a hardware button or let LK trigger a pattern change...

  • I'd say that patterning 2 and digistix have the best record feature. EG Pulse is good just limited to 1 bar per pattern. I honestly think the best way to go is to use an external sequencer. Drum Computer is amazing but it's sequencer is a pain because you have to program in pattern changes and that can be cumbersome. Using Atom or another midi sequencer seems to be the best route for me. The drum apps I mentioned, I believe, are the absolute best in this platform. Good luck brother. Everyone has a different workflow. It's important to find yours.

There is one problem with changing drum patterns through an LK clip: the drum pattern change is queued until the next beat. I guess the only way to trigger drum patterns on time via LK clips is to put the whole drum pattern into the LK clip. If you use LK to trigger the pattern change in the drum app, you will have an inevitable delay of 1 bar...

I answered this in the LK thread, responding to your question posted there.

Sorry but this doesn’t make sense.

    • Drum Computer can’t record live inputs.
    • DigiStix can’t change patterns via midi.

Why is one a shortcoming and the other is not?. One could say “if you don’t like imputing notes on the grid sequencer it’s up to you”. What’s wrong with personal preferences?. That’s how apps evolve and get better.

That is true about those 2 apps, but you said Digistix can’t work with structure, or work with a DAW.
That is false, obviously, since it syncs to host and supports Song Mode.

Midi pattern select and the ability to easily launch patterns whenever you want are not standard features, either. Lots of drum machine apps can’t do that.

I didn’t say that. I talked about using the internal sequencer in DigiStix to do a song (with pattern changes) in a daw.
    A) won’t work in clip mode like Zenbeats.
    B) in linear daw you’d have to replicate the song structure (and every change) plus you couldn’t, for example, loop the chorus.
So no, I don’t see how the internal sequencer works well with a daw if you need changes.

Midi pattern select and the ability to easily launch patterns whenever you want are not standard features, either. Lots of drum machine apps can’t do that.

If I do recall correctly you can load songs via midi cc... How is that more useful or standard?. Or change the reverb type... or so many parameters that are, I believe, less obvious than changing patterns.

And yes, it’s all subjective, or personal. But you buy stuff to fulfill your needs and cravings. It’s not like “it doesn’t do what I want but it’s ok because other people are going to enjoy it” 😜
DigiStix Is the best I’ve found in speed/features, specially with the velocity layers, but I do need the pattern changing. Bear with me...

I am just trying to make it clear that the app works fine, as in it isn’t broken or useless.
Your specific gripe is a personal one, which you have clearly stated now.
But initially you just kind of slammed the app, and were questioning why some issue you have was not widely discussed around here.

I have no argument against your personal preferences, just try to be more informative and clear if your issue is actually an app problem, or a personal one. Maybe try reaching out to the developer of the app if you really need some feature, instead of posting negative stuff that dissuades people from buying the app.
    Or don’t. Just suggestions.

Ok. I have to go but Cubasis 3 now.
    🤙🏻

Yes!. Pattern change via midi coming to DigiStix!.
Paul is a machine, a NuRack with legs.

Also going to make into DigiKeys. Very good news.
