Any good free apps?
I've got GarageBand, alchemy, sample tank, igrand and some others but I'm curious what other good free apps are out there.
Thanks for any replies

Modular Synthesizer, Launchkey, Launchpad, Tabletop, Nanologue, LH Rubbing, Sylo Synthesiser
Gotta a couple of those but will check out the others thanks!
no problem, also Soundprism
Yea forgot to mention I had soundprism since it's made by the awesome peeps who run this place!
I'm downloading all the ones u mentioned. Thanks again
SampleTank and Soundprism do have freemium versions, but there are paid versions that have much of the functionality to actually use it. That said, I do use the free version of SoundPrism for some of its internal synth sounds, which you can record.
Nanologue (from the people that make Cubasis) is free and about 30MB. It's IAA (not AB-compatible yet) and has some decent synth sounds.

Little MIDI Machine is a virtual MIDI controller that can do some step sequencing. It's a cool introduction to the concept if you're unsure how it works.

Thanks I'm downloading little midi now.
I bought the irig keys pro a couple months ago and IK gave me some more sounds in sample tank and two more pianos in igrand. I do like the sounds of the brass and strings so maybe I'll have to unlock all of sample tank.
Thanks for your reply
http://www.yonac.com/software/minisynth/ is great
But, Magellan is a whole lot better. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/magellan/id544119998?ls=1&mt=8
You get what you pay for and you don't have to pay much!

That's great if you already have some free stuff from IK. I haven't used SampleTank - it looks cool to use, but in addition to their pricing structure, which is a little annoying, all their apps have these massive file sizes, and that's just a no-go for me on my 16GB devices. Of course, if you have the space and enjoy the app, go right ahead!
You're probably familiar with these apps already, but ThumbJam and SoundFont Pro (or Bismark BS-16i) are some alternatives for sample-based sounds (horns, strings, instruments, etc.) that give you a big library of sounds (and many more for free on the internet) without massively huge file sizes. Again, I own like 6 drum machine apps that do basically the same, so this doesn't have to be an either/or thing.
Fugue is another free MIDI sequencer, it can send the sequence up to 16 channels, each on their own BPM. I've had some good fun with that.

Hmm, I never looked at MiniSynth, even though I have Magellan Jr. for iPhone ($5 and AWESOME). But actually, MiniSynth 2 is the current version, a I do not believe is free. 99 cents for phone and and 2.99 for iPad. They had a promo free sale when it updated.

This thread was a very good idea. Appropriately, however, an AB Forums thread on "free apps" still cost me 99 cents (MiniSynth 2 purchased)
Not free but $.99 Figure.
@syrupcore said:
Oh trust me I'm not afraid to spend $15 on an app I'm just trying to tap my inner bum.
I'm also trying to only buy the better apps when and if they go on sale from now on as I'm still new to this music stuff. so I don't need to get crazy...for now.

I have a 32gb so I'm not too worried about space as I still have a bunch of games I can delete if need be but thanks for that heads up.
IK makes some good stuff but they seem to be a bit whorish...they want to sell everything!

Best 99 cents I think I've ever spent. I use it more than rebirth
Thanks for the replies doooooods

Sweet! It looks very promising...downloaded! Thanks!
And incase there wasn't enough ! Here's some more!!
Haha

Thanks and yes I'm sure it will cost me in then go long run haha
ah, sorry. Thought minisynth was free.

No worries, it's pretty awesome and you told me about it. Can't play chords (I don't think), but I like the simple traditional synths like this one, Cassini and nLog MIDI synth. Sunrizer is an awesome piece of software with awesome sounds, but so many of the presets are full of reverb/delay and meant for atmospheric stuff.
A little help, IMHO:

Ricepad Lite - not sure if Ricepad will get any more updates, but I will never delete the full version of this forgotten gem from my iPhone. It's a modular sampler type of thing and it's deep. Here's a link if you want to know what you're missing from the full version:

Steel Guitar by Yonac -sounds a little broken on my devices but maybe still worth checking out for free
Alchemy!
@richardyot said:
Alchemy is probably the best free download "out of the box". You really can do quite a bit with it - pretty serviceable drum pads, crushing bass, atmospheric pads, and decent leads. And that's WITHOUT paying for any of the add-ons. That's one of the few larger file synths that I keep on my devices.
fjcblanco, thank for posting. The guitar app looks sweet.
Firejan82, ricepad lite wasn't coming up in the App Store but thanks anyway.

Found it on an internet search, anyway. Safe to assume it's not on the Bus if the last update was mid-2011 .
Cool thanks stormjh1, if anything I can record it into my laptop.
@StormJH1 said:
Yep! No Audiobus and no update since 2011 but in my opinion some apps are worth the audiocopy/paste workaround. There are some Ricepad vids @ https://www.youtube.com/user/RicecodeTube/videos
I abandoned rice pad long ago but it's a bit of a shame. The developer had some really thoughtful and clever UI ideas.
Midi guitar free, is good and useful.
Canstrument is pretty raw, but I like its potential.
Jam Synth - if you have a guitar - it converts incoming audio into midi data, so u can play notes on your guitar and have that trigger an ios synth via midi.
