Jam synth is awesome. Make sure you get the IAP and it's gets pretty musical
Grantophone is free and sounds great, it's a very unique synth.
Fiddlicator is free and the best IR program on IOS imho.
Tabletop, um...yeah..it's free
I tried Grantophone and thought it was dreadful. What was I mising?
Did you tweak the sounds and arp on grantophone at all? You can edit each of the waveform, oscillator and filters along with playing multiple layers at the same time. This gives rise to many possibilities, it's no Wave Generator for sure but is a lot cheaper (free). It says it has a completely new synthesis engine, but I had not tried the previous one. It is sorely lacking midi, IAA and AB, but I do a lot of my work on it post ipad anyway. Maybe someone should contact the developer and check out his plans.
Perhaps I tried the old engine, it was certainly a long time ago.
@WMWM - Checking out Grantophone right now. Is there ANY export function at all, like Copy/Paste? I see that it has no AB or IAA yet.
I stumbled across a free synth called TF7. Hadn't heard of it, but it has some okay preset sounds and has large touchpads for chromatic notes or major/minor keys, which is rare for an entry level synth.
I think you mean TF7 ?
Yea tf7 is pretty cool for being free. Forgot to mention it
Easy beats le sounds pretty good but offers a small amount of free sound

Yeah, it exports the sound right out of the connecting dock.
@nic_b_nice - Yeah, I did mean TF7 (corrected above). Thanks!
Easy Beats LE gives you their proprietary kit, which is probably like a 808 or 909. I heard it and thought it sounded great. I loved the sound of it and especially the responsiveness of the pads - bought the full version right away.
@WMWM - Oh, haha. Thanks. Yeah, I kind of meant moving from one app to the other. But your answer was correct given the question!

So the quality of the full version is that good? Got any creations from it that we could hear?
I just got it a few days ago. What I could do is maybe upload a simple drum patterns with different kits and give you an idea by posting a SoundCloud. But for 5 bucks, it unlockks about 10 kits and they are all pretty good. Some of them have things like Synth pads and bass notes, too, and that's more than just a toy because you pitch tune each STEP. So I can program my grid to play four quarter notes of "Bass Note", but then I could use the pitch slider to make four different notes out of that one instrument.
I think the neon color scheme (there's like 5 different skins, by the way) betrays it a little bit. I'd like to see an argument as to how EB3 is a "less serious" drum tool than something like DM-1. All the functionality is there. The one thing I thought it was missing is a master volume (maybe I just can't find it), but you can adjust that by instrument with velocity controls.
UPDATE: Here you go:
Too lazy to come up with a real beat, but it shows the variety of sounds. Here's the order that you hear them (I think):
Derek Buddemeyer Kit (uploaded)
522 Kit (included)
Ludwig Kit (uploaded)
Hip Hop Kit (four included, can't remember which one)
Alesis HR-16B (uploaded; this makes me want to break into a Rick Astley song)
Melody Box (included; example of pitches with different pads)
TheTransients.net (included).
Poly is a cool free visual interface for setting up polyrhythms. There's a bit of learning curve to it, as the buttons don't really tell you what they do. Midi out and virtual midi is an in-app purchase, however.

Also Tunetrace is an app where you draw a picture and it converts it to music. It's pretty cool but not really for music production.

Hey, cool thing about Tunetrace . . . it just got updated with midi! I had Animoog running in the background and Tunetrace was sending the notes to it It's very, very useful now.
@Christian, it's just a shame that it won't send midi when it's in the background. Unless I've missed a setting somewhere?

Could anyone even get a copy of Alchemy now if they wanted?
Matthew Caldwell (http://software.walkytalky.net/) has 3 free effect apps that are pretty fun:
Frobulator:

Nebulizer:

No AB in free version though right?
No, but my original post is dated April 2014 - it was still around then.
Ah! I did not pay attention to that because I rather thought this was a new thread.

If you have a friend who owns it, signs onto the store with their ID on your device, it'll be in their purchases, they can download it and the packs. But it's probably uncool to do so? Family sharing? (Having said this, if I'm never heard from again tell em it wuz a crunchy fruit - red, sometimes green - dat dun me in)
I've had my copy ever since it went bye-bye, so no worries there. But a second quick search for it at the App Store shows it no more, hence the question.
Super Hexagon is free now.
One of my favorite iOS games. complete with serious learning curve.
Glad you have it, its so f&@king amazing...I think only way it shows up in AppStore these days is our purchases...
@Littlewoodg When all the furor was going on around here with Camel going belly-up I had already played around with Alchemy (several times) and had since deleted it to make room for more other apps/GB files - but it was the last chance to get it for good... and here it sits, just a Chrome close and left swipe away!
