No new iPads for sale anywhere in UK!
That’s right - unless I’m havIng some sort of weird bad dream.
Today I contacted my nearest Apple retailer (they only sell Apple products) to ask if the had this years 8th generation iPad. Not only was the reply in the negative - I was told they have NO iPads whatsoever - and they have stopped taking orders for any. The next ones are expected to be here around February. It’s the same story everywhere else I have looked - PC World, Argos, ebuyer etc.
So if you are selling your old iPad to fund a new one - make sure you know where you are getting the new one from.
I was so shocked I can’t remember the actual reason he gave - I think it was something to do with lack of some parts available, but I think it’s probably more to do with the wall of freight stacked out at the bottom of England as the exit from Europe takes shape. There is a lack of toys as well this Christmas and a car manufacturing plant has had to close due to lack of supplies - the shape of things to come I fear.
How’s things in the rest of the world? Freely available I suspect?
Comments
It most probably is to do with the fact that there is a
wall of freight stacked out at the bottom of England.
Either late last week or earlier this week they had been
testing huge concrete road blocks to redirect traffic in Kent.
It's going to be tough in the U.K after January
even it's been tough enough this year.
I don't think we realise how tough it's going to be.
Holla if ever you need a chat.
As you can most probably tell I'm here in the U.K also.
You can still buy them from the Apple online store, they deliver in a week or so.
(edit) I believe their warehouse is in Ireland so they won't be affected by the delays at the UK ports.
Thanks for that. I don’t need much in life so I’ll not be too badly affected - I could get by with my family, fresh air, TV and some broth mix....... I really could be doing with a new iPad though 😃
Here also minus the T.V.
I have instead of the T.V.......wait for it......"dRambo." 😁
I hear you.
I'm okay on the iPad front.
I've started eyeing up the new Mac mini M1because of the aforementioned,
"dRambo"....lololol....
Otherwise I'm cool, I've been prepared for awhile.
That’s great news - thanks I’ll check that out 😀
The 8th Gen iPads are hard to find in Sweden as well so maybe...
...just maybe we'll get an update sooner than later
https://9to5mac.com/2020/12/10/apples-cheapest-ipad-2021/
I had a look - it doesn’t seem to be allowing me to access to the checkout.
I would hesitate to buy online anyway - too many scary delivery botch up stories, and some bad experiences myself. I’ve still got two Air 2’s to keep me going in the meantime... so it’s not so bad 🤨
I know Cupertino people who work in the supply chain, and they're having a heck of a time.
I just tried, the 8th Gen is available for me for delivery in January (I live in Kent). I've always bought from Apple online (several iPads and iPhones) and never had any issue.
I think supply chains are in a right mess everywhere but the UK seems a bit mad right now, I’ve just spent the best part of this week sourcing a new nvidia card to help me through a bunch of work that came in and the price scalping that’s going on is outrageous.
Nation of shopkeepers no more, nation of spivs here we come. Kinda think that’s the plan to be honest, there doesn’t seem to be any other sense to any of it right now that’s for sure.
It was on the national news yesterday about box boats pilling up no access to Felixstowe etc. China running out of containers. Honda factory in Swindon has stopped work due to lack of imported parts.
People forget the UK is a island and we rely on sea trade for most things nowadays.
Thinking i should buy 32gb ipad 2019 as it would have apple care. This will likely just be for Sb drum multi out. Shoom multi out. Effects. Effects on a volca drum. If I add a gauss, then Id be adding loads of apps. So thats where I guess a 32gb might not be great if I install apps for gauss but should be ok with sb, shoom, effects ( cpu wise ) and sample/save wise. Could re-sell in spring. Not wating till spring.
Thanks for that, I’m going to wait until they are back in store though, especially as I need to order two, one for me and one for my daughter.
Also at this time of year there are hundreds of parcels getting shovelled all over the place.
The fact that you have had no issues increases the odds that it will be me that gets the issues 😀
Thanks for taking the time, but on reflection - I’m just going to wait it out. I can be getting on with making audio loops and all the rest of it to Airdrop in when I do get my hands on one.
Not wating till spring
Sounding like the brat from hell. IOS kind of does make you become materialistic with practically free apps ( then a complaints list )
Spiv's is the word...
F!!!
@robosardine ”need to order two”... music to Apple’s ears...and yours.
Ipad busking, busking for the next app. The loop of madness. A true appaholic.
Immediately scanning for a headphone out jack 🧐
It’s all iPads that are unavailable, or at best extremely scarce here, not just the 8th Gen 😕
Where are the two speakers placed on the 8th gen iPad? Is it still two on one side or one on each side (in landscape)?
The rumored upgraded 8th gen might have a thinner design and weigh less according to the link above. That means less battery time. The battery on my 10.5” Pro isn’t exactly stellar, I wish they’d do what they did with iPhone 11, make it moar fat and plop a larger battery in it.
They are still on one side.
And yes battery beats skinny all day long for me too.....
Nothing wrong with having something to hang on to, and all that.
That’s kinda silly that they can’t design a better way to place the speakers. Even on the iPad Pro where they use 4 speakers, they are still placed completely different on each side, which doesn’t make any sense.
Gotta up the speaker game on the iPads, Apple. You did such a good job with the sound on the iPhone 11 🤔🤷♂️
Globalism. Because putting all your eggs in one basket is such a good idea.
Might be suppliers getting a little scared of an imminent Brexit no deal and not knowing if they're risking anything financially. I'd be surprised if it's not affecting things.
I know they're made outside of the US, but there don't seem to be any issues with finding them here, either in stores or from online retailers.
You might need to check your geography there.
Those ports will probably be less affected I think is what he probably meant.
I know, I retract, stupid comment by me. Sorry.
To be fair, I actually laughed when I read your post. You have a point.
Wait what! They normally take a week through the back door from Ireland and they are now quoting sometime in January. This is looking grim methinks.
You’re in Kent you say. What’s the word on the Ports and Harbours down your end?
I don't really know too much about the ports, sorry
