MixBox - Win A Code

Win a code! See details pinned below my YouTube video. MixBox is too deep to do a tutorial in one video, so here I run through a lot of presets with a lot of different instruments and vocals to give you a good idea what the app is or isn’t capable of.

I’m putting a lot of work into my YouTube channel and helping to support the iOS community at the moment. If you could give me a thumb up (oooooer!) or drop me a sub or give my video a share at all it would be greatly appreciated thank you. Have a beautiful day everyone.

  • I know you said you’re putting a lot of work into this, and I respect that, but this is the third thread you’ve posted this in. It just feels a bit spammy for this forum.

  • Agreed. Also, the whole “watch a video to get a code” is pretty spammy too.

  • Agreed.
I know it’s not direct competition between you content creators, but it feels to me that the market is already way too saturated, and all pretty much the same, so I’m not surprised that the demand is lacking.
Maybe it would be a good idea on long run to split the tasks according to each presenters area of expertise?

There’s a definite trend at the moment of several YouTubers all getting a code for the same app and all making a video all at the same time and usually, all offering codes. When I started out doing this of course, I wasn’t recognised at all by the developers so I bought my own apps and made videos on whatever I thought. To make this work, I need to make videos promptly now, on the codes I am sent. My approach to this problem is to make my video very different from everyone else’s. Why do you presume that demand is lacking and that my video is the same as everyone else’s? With respect, it seems a little unfair to make that judgement without watching.

  • I’m down with the free codes. I have a crack at them myself. It was the triple thread posting I wanted to give feedback on. Will check out your video.

I can totally see that. Fear of being a spammy twat is constantly on your mind when doing the YouTube thing. It’s a really tough call. You put your heart and soul into a video and then it goes live and if you’re serious about growing your channel you need to get a lot of views quickly. You’re constantly battling the YouTube algorithms. So, if you’re a small, new channel, you really have to take to social media and advertise what you’re doing. If you don’t, there’s no point doing it. But then that nagging feeling starts, that sooner or later someone who could have just thought, that’s of no interest to me, I’ll just scroll on by, will take the time to kick you in the nuts for trying really hard to make something work, that isn’t easy. When a developer gives you codes though, it makes you feel better about it. You’re offering something for free that a lot of people might want and so you feel less awkward about it. Considering the huge amount of time I put in to helping people with iOS music and promoting the platform and just generally trying to spread positivity and great vibes throughout the community, I don’t think it would have hurt you to scroll on by. Hey, maybe you could even have watched the video and checked out if it was actually any good. I put an incredible amount of effort into every video. If you can tell me how I can grow the channel without advertising/spamming then please tell me. I mean really, it doesn’t do any harm - I’m offering a code for an expensive app - and trying to make sure as many people get a chance to win as possible.

  • I watched the video. It’s a brilliant app that deserves attention so I hope your demo gets lots of views. More importantly, I think you’re a very talented dude. I wish I could play ONE instrument well...

Fair enough. Watched it and I do like your take on it. 👍
I guess my previous suggestion would only be beneficial for viewers, but I think there is plenty of overlap atm and that helps no one really.
Maybe doing some polling before shooting each video and focus on those areas. Like f.e - while presets were covered by most of you, few users mentioned that they could use some general knowledge on how to setup a compressor, or other practical know how.
I think the length of a video is important too. If it goes deep enough than I’m happy to watch for hours, but doing more or less the same gets boring quickly, though variety of instruments definitely helped. :) Maybe I’m missing the point here... some videos feel promotional, some would only scratch the surface (demo), others try to educate.

  • @Jamie_Mallender: Jamie, I think you just started posting a few weeks ago, correct? If so, your videos are excellent and will only get even better as you gain experience. I watch them all and always learn. My advice that's worked well for me regarding YouTube--make them the way you feel best suits you (don't change your style unless you feel you should). If you like to educate yourself on all things YouTube you might start with the Primal Video tutorials. Check out their advice on making thumbnails that get clicks.

Thank you. That’s really kind of you to say. I may have been a little overdefensive (I know that’s not a real word but it should be) earlier. I apologise. It means a lot that you went and watched the video thank you.

I totally agree actually. Developers send us codes but don’t tell us who else has one. You know, if they said - could Doug focus on keys presets and NuTrix explain the synthesis side of things, Jamie do guitar stuff, Jade donvocal presets - that could lead to very specific Videos - shorter and more concise where we all deal with areas we are most competent with. My videos take me a while to make. I don’t excel at the rough and ready video so mine are never first out. I watch other people’s videos dreading that they’ve already covered what I’m in the middle of filming. I would definitely welcome a more focussed approach. I made one video just to bin it off as I was finishing it up one of the other guys released virtually the same video.

I have to say though, that making a video about this app is quite daunting. I’d like to do more and go in depth about for instance, building my own racks for specific things and how it would be used.

Hi Clam. Yes, it’s a recent thing for me. I’m really working hard at it but am fully aware that I have a lot to learn. I’ve just done a YouTube search - I see what you mean. I’ll watch some of those. A lot of people say thumbnails are the most important thing. I definitely need to work on that. Thank you buddy for taking the time.

I saw something about having a clear picture of your face in the majority of the shot for the thumbnail helps generate clicks cos it connects people to a human element. I actually checked YouTube after reading that and saw it consistently as well on videos with a lot of views

  • @Jamie_Mallender you are crazy talented, enjoyed the vid

I can see that, that makes a lot of sense. There are those YouTubers of course who we would never recognise in the street because we never see their face. It’s all screen record, but I never wanted to take that approach. It doesn’t work for a player of things with strings.

Thank you, that’s really nice of you to say. Thank you for watching. I really appreciate that. :)

  • @Jamie_Mallender enjoyed your vid, just do your thing! I saw your vids even before I joined this forum. Keep it to one thread is all I’d say. Don’t worry about it, just keep being you. Cheers!

Forgot to add, even if you get codes, don’t be afraid to criticize, and if you love something, don’t be afraid to shout it. I’m new here, but to me this forum is all about the details, not loyalty or paid promotions.

  • @Jamie_Mallender

Watched the vid, it's a good rundown of the presets and just what a fence sitter like me needs to push the buy button.

Like others I was a little put off by the thumbnail style and slightly pushy tone (multiple thread spam is a definite no no here), these seem out of sync with your personality which seems closer to @thesoundtestroom and this is no bad thing.

Just be yourself and the followers will come naturally.

You clearly have the gear (love the multiple string instruments!) and talent to make YT a thing. +1 Sub and Like.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I really appreciate that. I do make it known when I’m not happy with an app. There’s no point me doing this if I just say everything’s brilliant. :)

Thank you very much for taking time to say all that. Taken on board, I won’t do it again. Thumbnails is definitely something I need to work on. I’ve been given some advice on it and some videos to watch. I’m working on it. :)

I would echo @TheVimFuego here, I think the only “transgression” has been posting to multiple threads. I subbed after watching, really liked the spread of instruments used.

  • And ... I finally grabbed the app ... having just had a spin through the presets with the demo loops I can see I will not regret it.

But DEFINITELY no more effects apps for a long time, I have to promise myself this. :D

  • Great vid, really enjoyed your approach. Have subscribed to see more.

Thank you so much for watching and subscribing. I’m working hard at YouTube iOS content. I wanted to hit 900 subs by Christmas Day and it looks like I may actually hit that today. I’m so grateful for your support.

Yeah, I keep making similar promises to myself. I’ve managed to stop getting every synth app that comes out but FX apps... different matter. 😂

Thank you so very much for watching and subscribing. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. I need to get to 1000 subs to really get my YouTube moving. I was hoping for 900 by Christmas Day but I will most likely hit that today. Maybe a 1000 by Christmas Day? I’m working hard at it. Once again thank you. :)

  • just watched this! great video man! subscribed!!! def wouldn’t hate winning this code either!

@Jamie_Mallender, I though your video would be too long for me, but I've reached the end with pleasure... and subscribed too.

It's great to have another good guitarist testing apps while we can see what you're doing. Your playing is just what it needs to be to let the viewer appreciate the app's possibilities... I say this in "comparison" with @flo26 who plays SO SOOooo SSOOOO WELL that, at the end, I just can't believe that his sound comes from elsewhere than his fingers and his pure talent when he demoes anything 🤩... read me well, that's not to say that you have no talent ; I'm sure you are much talented too ! (I hope my english is correct enough not to say stupidity and upset anyone here 😅🤞🏼🤗).
