Any Saturn 2 close relatives out there?

After Mixbox CS I made a vow to control my app buying until I get decent use out of the arsenal I already own. Are there any fx apps out there that are similar to Saturn 2? If there are, chances are I already own it (them).

If history holds, I know I will get flooded by enablers’ comments telling me I have to have it and nothing else will suffice, but alas, a vow has been made and it will stand, sturdy and robust against your onslaught, probably.

  • Saturn just went on sale :p

  • saturn is.very very worth it

  • Saturn: The degree of control is crazy. Presets abound.
That said if you want saturation and quick and easy, Bleass Saturator is one top candidate.

  • Woot maybe. I mean it's nowhere near it but it does the multiband comp, distortion thing.

  • I have woott, and I’ll watch some videos on the bleass joint, surprisingly I don’t have it. Hopefully some additional suggestions come in.

  • Bleass Saturator.

Woot is nothing like Saturn...not a knock on Woot... they just don’t aspire to the same feature set. Saturn is a very deep app with many saturation and distortion models which can be applied in different bands and on top of that has a huge variety of Eq and dynamics processing with deep modulation control, and tons more.

Elsewhere a link to an excellent demo/tutorial was posted.

    And not everyone needs it.

  • MixBox :)
It delivers well imo in saturation/character area, but I’m possibly the only person who dislikes FF for their UI...

  • FAC Bandit !! Second best multiband distortion/overdrive on iOS (and more - it has even multiband reverb, delay, bitcrusher)

  • If you just want the vanilla saturation options without multiband or modulation then Klevgrand's ReAmp is an excellent alternative to Saturn.

However if you do need the multiband options, or the compression/expansion/feedback, or the modulation, then Saturn is pretty much in a league of its own. The oversampling is also the cleanest by far.

  • Yeah, FAC Bandit is a great choice too. Plus it does a lot more if u buy the reverb and delay IAPs. Wonderful app, I did a vid on it by the way @king_picadillo

i’m with you actually on the ui

  • Saturn 2 is the best of the best

  • Is there a knack to getting the Saturn pan controls (those outer rings on the level knobs) to behave well? I constantly have problems getting Saturn to recognize whether I am trying to move the level or the pan.

Have you tried a pencil or crayon?

Saturn 2 is really good. That said, fac bandit is top notch and bleass saturator is a great tool too. I use them all ...

I'm sorry, that is not a solution as far as I'm concerned 😂. Devs need to make a bloody decent UI that responds to fingers the way a touch screen UI should. I informed FF about this months ago, seems nothing has been done.

  • FAC Bandit is an excellent app but like Woot, the overlap is small imo. This app is for people that want a lot of control over a variety of saturation/distortion algorithms plus the option of multiband dynamics and filtering.

On the saturation side, Reamp does have a lot of variety and sounds good. And Saturn 2 offers an awful lot more

... and the MORE is something a lot of people wouldn't use. And for some people the more will be why they need it.

Watch Dan Worral's video and you will know which camp you are in.

  • $19.99 is the sale price, yes?

  • Thanks everybody. Looks like I have some digging to do, videos to watch and waiting to do (for possible Christmas sales). I do think @espiegel123 is on to something, after watching @Gavinski ’s video, I realized that I wouldn’t be using S2 to its intended full potential. Maybe later if I dive deeper into sound design, but right now I mainly use presets and samples that I tweak to taste. S2 is the deep end of the pool and I’m still learning to doggie paddle.

  • @lukesleepwalker yes, I think full price is 26.99.

  • A couple of the Eventide plugins are good for distortion. Not a Saturn replacement, but worthy additions to your toolkit.

If you want to control/explore distortion musically then Saturn is in a league of its own.

I don't think it's worth debating but there are aspects that are similar. Bleass does an awesome range of saturation beyond woot, but has no multiband capability. Woot has multiband and can be pushed into saturation. Personally things that make Saturn important to to me are better represented by the saturation and multiband aspect than a single band distortion swiss army knife no matter how good. I did say woot is nowhere near Saturn but I can't think of anything that is. I'd have thought if the single band was enough the OP would me more likely to ask about a competitor for Bleass saturator or one of the other distortion beasts. Even the Nembrini PSA1000. Is it possible to rig up Overloud THU to distort multiple bands? I don't know but I think at least 2 would be easily possible.

The best I've found so far is to drag from the label itself (Drive/Level) when I want to tweak the pan ring. I do agree that this is a real issue that clearly comes from not having adjusted the UI from the desktop version.

+1 It does so many things, it's a kind of Swiss Army knife ... so useful for mastering/finishing, warming/saturation, distortion/amp sim, exciter, and that's before you get to the modulation.

Those outer rings respond to touches on a wider circle than what you see. Try touching the 'R' in the bottom right 'corner' as a pickup point.

@king_picadillo - talking a lot of sense there. Stay strong, brother.

Yes please everyone write to ask them to fix this. I'm going to do it for the 2nd time right now.

  • There also is RX950, which is plain but versatile and costs $1.99.
The manual describes 20 presets, which you can find here for AUM. Parameters are exposed in AUv3.

  • @Tim6502 i have it, got it at the behest of @colonel_mustard and I really like it. I don’t use AUM, are the presets AUM specific or can they be used in a different iOS daw? I googled General rx950 presets and couldn’t find any.
