Pipa Vocal Synthesizer by Klevgränd produkter AB

https://apps.apple.com/app/id1540736941

Description:

This virtual instrument is a crossover between a wavetable synthesizer and a granulating sample player specialized in generating vocal sounds. Pipa simulates the sound of human voices in a new way; instead of using ordinary samples or processing oscillators with formant filters, Pipa uses a large database of wavetables extracted from real vocal samples. The benefit of this technique is that it’s possible to seamlessly morph between those wavetables with proper phase alignment. This technique enables Pipa to continuously make transitions between pitch, formants and dynamics, which is very useful in a musical context.

FEATURES

  • Features both male and female voices

  • Continuous morphing between formants, dynamics and pitch

  • Separate envelopes (with linked release time) and LFOs for formant, dynamics, gain and pitch

  • Plenty of factory presets

  • Two MIDI Assignable controllers (Ctrl1 and Ctrl2) for controlling formants, dynamics, pitch and gain

  • Legato mode with control over both pitch glide time and velocity glide time

  • Voice spatialization

  • Room simulation (5 different rooms to choose from)

  • Reverb (6 different algorithms to choose from)

Full documentation, audio examples and video demos available at https://klevgrand.se/products/pipa

Note that Pipa consumes quite some CPU - a modern iPad is highly recommended. Pipa is also only available as an AUv3 plugin to be used in an AUv3 compatible host application like Garageband, Cubasis, AUM or similar.

  • Got it, thanks @White. Unfortunately their website return a 404 error in Pipa page😂

    Gavinski to the rescue.

Thought id speak through mic ( like a nutter ) with effects to some mononoke weird music.

rs2000 made some voice stuff for Drambo wave.

    So might be good.

  • iPad only for those interested

  • Aha was this the app used to make that Gauss loop in one of your recent vid’s @Gavinski ?
I remember it had a vocal quality to it.

You said I’d like it - this was correct! Can’t wait for the video.

    Well spotted! Vid coming soonish

  • My demo video and Giveaway

I'll make a thread later when the Bleass vid finishes lol 😂

Hmmm... just bought and installed but the AUv3 does not show up anywhere. Neither AUM, nor AB. Deleted and re-installed but still the same. Strange. iPad 6, German AppStore.

    Update: reboot fixed it

  • Hardly spent 3 minutes with this app yet, but it's already on my apps of the year list. Pipa is just capable of such beautiful sounds that you simply couldn't get in any other apps - especially without samples.

Restart your device as dear old Wim would have said. Ah you did already. Good! :D

Just bought it and it's wonderful as most Klevgrands products!

Yup, was love at first listen for me too

  • @Gavinski great demo, some lovely sounds in there!

Thanks man, yeah I was very happy with this demo, love the app, it inspires me

  • This webpage does load for me on my iPhone 6s w14.2.

The SoundCloud examples are quite good 😎

  • How's the CPU on this?

  • Is it a « super-Jussi » ? Jussi is a fun app but I have never been able to do anything « productive » with it...

It's pretty heavy. As usual though, it is impossible to give a cast in stone number.

I don’t have Jussi, but you can get all sorts of beautiful, varied, and downright weird vocals from this one. I’m actually considering getting Jussi now, just so I can have them sing together.

  • At first I thought it was going to be along the lines of voice synth and something I didn’t need or that was already covered until I watched the videos on their website, but it’s definitely not like voice synth. Anyway grabbed it, liking it so far. I’m running it thru BLEASS Delay and Eventide Blackhole right now and things are getting really interesting 🤪...oh another thing for those who don’t know ( it’s also listed in the description in the op ) is that it is NOT a stand alone.

  • pipa-skaka-ting pipa-skaka-ting ... pipa-skaka-ting pipa-skaka-ting

i like how they sound :)

for me, the Klevgr apps occupy the same «kinda» playspace, but opposite «kinda» pole to the SugarBytes apps

  • Excellent. Was obviously hoping for Fairlight female vox, but this is much more natural and smoother. I’ll take it!

  • That English with Swedish accent is gorgeous. It is very "expresive" with many modulation options. Wonder why they don't get into the MPE wagon yet? Anyway I think I'm going to get it

  • Does it come with a free Prophet-6?

Wow. A Pharlight or Exhale type synth on iOS for the price of a value meal?

    No brainer.

I really like Pipa, but as a happy Exhale user, Pipa doesn’t cover 1% of what Exhale does.

As Wim ‘would have said’? He’s still of this world, right?

  • Anyone that bought Pippa and has Phonem can tell me how do they compare sound wise?

Same for Pharlight...but, they’re kin. All basically synths based on human voice. There will never be anything that compares to Pharlight or Exhale. Not enough juice.

I know. But I do think an Exhale “Lite” would be doable. Don’t forget Phonem (discontinued).

Phonem uses algorithms to synthesize speech, Pipa is vocal recordings converted into wavetables. Phonem is closer to traditional "computerized speech" and Pipa is perhaps more natural and more musical, but without any of Phonem's complexity; it's built for a completely different purpose.

Really hope the upcoming IPad Pros are a big boost over current Gen.

Yeah, I skipped the 2020 Pros but I'm excited to see if we get some super Pro in the spring.
