arp odyssey sounds
are there any recommendations for a similar sounding synth that is an auv3?
tal u no seems to be able to get some of the tones close, but i’m wondering if there is anything out there that comes closer.
of course i can run multiple instances via lexington in gadget but i still would like an auv3.

IMO, there is no analog sim that has as much character as OdysseI though there are many excellent synths. Zeeon is very good and maybe has the broadest range of synths with that classic two oscillator architecture and its mod matrix is very good. Moog Model D has a bit more “fatness” but less flexible architecture. For some things I keep going back to Odyssei, though.
You Are probably right, the ARP sound is so good nothing is quite like it! I have not picked up the iOS synth yetbut really should i , can just use with gadget to get it into my aum sessions. Really hope korg will someday auv3 there amazing sounding apps..I think e we would all buy them immediately!!
there’s def a couple that id be into! they know how to make a synth sound like real hardware that’s for sure
Considering the Module AU update, I imagine they’ll eventually do the same to all the gadgets. Well, one can hope at least 😩
Does this mean that if I already have Odyssei I can buy Gadget and Lexington will be there automatically or would it be an additional IAP?
I can confirm that.
This request should be aimed at KORG, and new users already think twice before buying one of the more expensive synths without AUv3 support.
Lexington will be there, no iAP required.
I’m in the same mood. Not Gadgets, but all apps. It’s not easy. But possible.
Greetings, and the best wishes!
The Gadget sound and locked up factor made me drop anything Korg immediately. It’s a strange approach/business model.
to those who do like gadget...i am one of em 😎
would you recommend grabbing lexington today, in almost 2021?
i think it’s yes from @espiegel123 🤓
It all depends. I think Odyssei is a great synth with a lot of character. Some people hate using IAA apps. If you get Odyssei, it is Lexington in Gadget. I prefer using it outside Gadget because it has an arpeggiator/sequencer that isn’t in Lexington. Be forewarned that you can’t share presets between Odyssei and Lexington.
that is a bummer the sequencer is missing from lexington as i would use it there more often than as iaa, it seems like it sounds really good tho especially if it’s close to the original which imo is a great synth and can do some pretty narly sounds
There's nothing else close to it that will satisfy you if you have beyond beginner knowledge of synths or a good ear for their differences. I'm really hoping for Korg to do the AU thing, but I'm cool with IAA if the quality is worth it, and in this case, it is. Since it's not originally Korg, I adore the sound. I normally don't like the "Korg sound"...it has a character of its own, but it's a very 'formal' shall we say character. Illustrated especially when you combine a ton of things Korg and get the "Gadget sound" bemoaned above. I just couldn't use that thing, even though I really liked the scene building and really easy copy-pasting for the repetitive parts of software song building.
Not quite the answer you're looking for but if it's a specific patch you want to use, you could auto sample it in either Chameleon or Audiolayer and then use it as an AU. I did this with the brilliant Poppy Garden patch. Worked really well. The final sound was indistinguishable to me.
So will Korg release a Kronos successor in 2021?!
Sorry I know not iOS...but couldn’t stop myself......
When auto sampling synths one loses most of the expressive possibilities...manipulating the sliders in realtime to change the sound.
Yeah, plus the ‘Poppy Garden’ preset mentioned here is a good example of why its kind of pointless. It’s got a distortion on the output which sounds different depending on the notes/chords played simultaneously. Single notes don’t have much distortion, it kicks in with 2 or more notes played.
Not to mentioned the added ‘Apollo’ reverb.
i went ahead and grabbed it, kinda sucks i just missed the sale but i am off work this week and felt like it would be a great time to get familiar with the synth, it’s been on my lust list a long time but since it isn’t an audio unit i always took my finger off the button lol
i personally find gadget a great thing in combination with other hosts so i can settle for a gadetized version of a pretend auv3, hosted in aum i can still use my fav reverbs on the output it just limits the gadget session to only synths that i want to run thru those effects treating it like a bus effect...
all in all it makes it a bit less open but with it being just a hobby to me as opposed being my career it is ok... the thing sounds so good and the single version iaa is still an option when i need it outside of gadget.
sampling the synth from other sources can have a place but im not that creative with samples so it would end up just making me frustrated haha but it def is an idea for those who are better at making samples work then myself
as of now about an hour into the purchase i’m happy with it! def wish the gadget had the sequencer as that thing is pretty rad, i’ll just add in modulation via gadget for now and get pretty good results, currently running 3 lexington gadgets next to drum computer in aum and having a great jam session!
Interesting comments. I was using it for a specific lead line on a specific song. Every note was sampled separately and I couldn't tell any difference at all but then again I was only playing individual notes...
anyone with the iaps find the sounds useable? or at least good starting points?
i don’t usually like buying presets from the manufacturer as they seem less interesting usually than user presets...
i can’t find any user presets tho so the options are very limited.
I got the presets in sale and there were a few that I found useful as starting points...particularly one or two that make use of hard sync and/or FM (which isn't obvious how to do on an Odyssey but which is very satisfying to me).
I haven’t bought them cause some of the presets make heavy use of its arp/seq which is missing in Lexington (I only use it in Gadget).
Doug did demos of both packs:
good to know, i might get em on sale when that happens as i paid full price for the synth
it is very annoying you can’t transfer em to gadget, i’ve been taking the patches i like that i made in the stand alone, and remaking them in lexington using a screen shot lol, not the greatest method but maybe the only one. but ya with the arp missing the presets that use it are a waste... ugh!!
i emailed korg support today, i’m sure it’s useless but i asked for auv3 support and the ability to transfer presets from standalone to lexington. never hurts to keep letting them know what we want 😎
also just for fun hahahaa... i replied to their IG happy new year post😎

If when you play a synth you don’t change settings (like playing with the filter or envelope, etc) when you play and don’t make use of the things like the mod wheel or cc’s while playing, sampling will reproduce the synth sound.
Exactly, presets sharing and AUv3 support are strong points that should be high up on KORG's todo list.
