  • You should ask the king of bass @Jamie_Mallender he knows both bass amps pretty well. My opinion is that they are both good and do different things. I feel mammoth is great for distortion not even sure if you can pull a clean sound out of it because I’ve never tried due to the distortion sounding so FAT hahaha

  • If you have Model D , you have one of the best sounding virtual analog synths. IMini wouldn’t be an improvement.

I love them even if they are not auv3

    isem is auv3

  • @cazel

Sorry, the OP posted link of three non auv3 apps.

  • My alert for iSEM also lit up in appsliced and I have to say that the patches in iSEM just blow my mind, amazingly good stuff!

  • All Arturia apps are 50% off

their Rhino guitar plugin will finally be released come april

I’m extremely looking forward to this! I hope it will appeal to both clean and distorted tone chasers. The marketing materials look great.

Mammoth - Bass Amp by Aurora DSP

    https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1517411435

    Down from $18.99 to $7.99

Anyone can comment on Mammoth vs the Nembrini bass amp sim?. I’ve read mixed reviews on Mammoth, some comment it’s only appropriate for heavy, distorted sounds. This is a great price.

    Cheers!

The Nembrini Blackice is freaking fantastic! When it’s on a sale price it’s a must grab. Both the clean tones and the distorted tones are stellar. I’m also still waiting for Nembrini’s Ampeg sim that they’ve mentioned releasing.

Personally I’m not a big fan of Mammoth specifically because it doesn’t do clean, it’s kind of a noisy clanky preamp kind of sound, but metalheads love it. I use it sometimes, and it works really well on industrial sounds for synth and other instruments too, would still recommend it for $7.99. The thing is for bass I am able to dial in those same Mammoth sounds with the Blackice that even sound more “organic”. btw I’m just one opinion. I also love the th-u “Bass Rigs
Vol. 1” collection, but if I had to choose just one bass amp it would be the Blackice. Nembrini has already proven they can do bass with their PSA.

@Millwardesque comparable to Nembrini. Everyone has their favorites - I think this fits the bill for an AUv3 version of something like Bias FX, a whole package type deal with amps cabs and FX. Others such as @McD and @JoyceRoadStudios can weigh in.

@Millwardesque I will make this statement confidently. Overloud TH-U is best in class as a comprehensive guitar app universe. If you are comparing it to Bias, Amplitube, Ge Labs, it sounds a lot better. The amp and cab sims are, to my ears, the best we’ve had so far on iOS when you consider the whole package. The fx collection is stellar. So if you are considering a big guitar app that can suit all your needs standalone or AuV3, with full midi capability, IR loader, etc etc... it’s not even close. You can try Bias, Amplitube, Ge Labs demos and hear for yourself. On top of that, th-u sells rigs of real amps, like Kemper profiles. They actually are the best sounding guitar amps on iOS, but they get costly and addictive quickly because each is a separate purchase. If the rigs didn’t exist, I would still choose the th-u sims.

Now Nembrini are single amp masterpieces, and you can also buy their fx (some are free) and make a chain in AUM or Audiobus or any Daw. But it’s not a guitar universe app, in standalone you don’t even have metering nor a tuner. It’s apples to oranges which is why I recommend both rather than compare them. Nembrini is one amp of your choice at a time. So if I was choosing $80 worth of Nembrini amps/fx or th-u full, obviously th-u offers the bigger and more comprehensive package. My biggest problem with Nembrini is the horrible presets. Just turning the apps on in “default” is unbearably loud and causes ear killing feedback in my headphones. The input, output, master knobs are completely out of whack, the bass knob always too high. The only amp that doesn’t kill my ears just by turning it on is Mrh810. I have my levels set perfectly on the interface etc... Nembrini takes a lot of tweaking, but those amps are also the best we have on iOS. Th-u presets are fantastic, you can have fun right away, or tweak to your heart’s content. The only thing I ever do in th-u is occasionally turn down the global master volume the the left menu, I barely touch the amps. With Nembrini I have to turn the input and output and master knobs so much that it changes the intended amp character. I still love them, but they’re quite a labyrinth for being just one amp. The impossibly loud and distorting presets are almost a deal breaker.

Coincidentally I re-visited every single iOS guitar app last night, and th-u sounded like the clear winner of big guitar rig apps. Nembrini literally killed my ears, Bias and Amplitube are just old news and not AUV3. I think the new FH-2 beta is extremely promising as well. Novella over.

I am wayyyy late to reply to this, but many many many thinks for this summary. It's made decision-making a helluva lot easier.

No problem! Apropos, I thought programmers and software marketers were supposed to be good at math, because $79 off of $109 is not in any way 40% off. Overloud’s website is promoting 40% off on all th-u versions, so iOS should be $65.99. In fact, none of the desktop promotions are actually 40% off. I’m gonna write to them as I’m genuinely curious. 🤔

Ah the old sale on a raised price trick. So weird because I’ve never seen the thu full for anything other than $109. The whole euro dollar pricing structure really confuses me. None of the prices are the same!

There are price tiers that Apple defines and the developer can choose a tier but the actual conversion is done by Apple.

nah, I have no clue, I was just joking ;) yeah the euro/dollar conversion really sucks. the euro is already more valuable than the dollar and yet they add 10% or so on top of that to the european price...

Do the TH-U effects have any tempo sync to host BPM for effects like delay or tremolo?

@boberto all of the TH-U effects have a “sync” button in their settings, all of the appropriate ones do like delay, tremolo, chorus, etc... once you press sync the speed parameter changes to letting you choose note values like 1/8 or 1/32 and duplets or triplets etc.. here’s a pic as example... there is a looper feature where you can list a bmp and also a bmp feature in the global menu.

However I think you are referring to a BMP host function, and this if from the Overloud manual for desktop:

This feature is in the desktop version but not yet on iOS as far as I can see. Edit: I was wrong, sync to host or internal does exist on iOS, just looks different from the desktop version. The thing is that the devs are very responsive and I have asked them port over some desktop features, and they have on a regular basis. I’m still waiting for an actual input gain knob inside the app and an undo/redo button, like in the desktop version. If this is the feature you’re looking for I would simply ask them when it’s coming to iOS, before making its absence a deal breaker. One important feature they’ve added recently is an excellent IR loader, so the app can be used for just pedals or as a convolution app to load your custom IRs, and not just for guitar amps.

I bought the th-u full almost a year ago, as well as many of their additional Kemper style rigs. Zero regrets. Perfectly stable, consistently active devs and improvements, excellent and comprehensive midi programmability. You’d think I’m working for them, but really I just love how the app sounds. I’ve recorded several songs and guitar centric tracks using th-u as my main guitar lifeline. I also use Nembrini often, but it’s apples to oranges.

Yes, I am asking about BPM sync to host (AUM). Tonestack / Yonac apps all sync automatically via Ableton Link. Of course you can turn this off, but when I change presets or adjust the host tempo, all of the effects stay in time. You are tellIng me that with TH-U I would have to type/tap in the BPM manually instead of the AU automatically adjusting to BPM changes?

  • An app I’ve never seen before Cavit Ribbon is $8.99, and apparently it’s usually $46.99. It is a Transposer and ribbon controller for all midi keyboards. I don’t know anything about it but it’s on sale so here ya go...

@espiegel123 thank you for confirming this.

@boberto I confused the bmp setting in the looper with the bmp setting in the global menu, and the fact the thu desktop and iOS go about the bmp sync feature differently UI wise confused me even further. So yes you can bmp sync to host or internally, sounds like that’s what you’re looking for. It is a great pedal/fx collection by the way, only a few duds.
