Well, it’s good to have a head of state who can speak properly.

I just watched Trumps final words 🤮

I suspect that Trump’s final final words will be,
    “grift...more...grift...”

    My apologies to Goethe

    Ever?

  • This is a long post, so sorry about that, but the words kept coming.

Short version: looking forward, looking for good healthy discussion from now on in all parts of life, and I was happy today while also realizing there are people in the USA and elsewhere who are not happy about the administration change. Let’s do our best to keep this thread open by keeping it civil and productive.

It’s been proven there was no stolen or fraudulent election, a new president and Vice President were elected and today were inaugurated. There are many people here and around the world very happy with this, me being one of them. As with any choice, there are those who disagreed.

As was said today, the president will be a president for all Americans, whether they agree or disagree, and this peaceful dissent is what the country has been built on for a long time. Disagreement can lead to progress when the disagreement includes discussion (talking and listening) and commitment to finding agreement. I’m choosing to have faith that people will remember that they can work together. I’m very weary from the fighting, insults, and general nonsense that has been the norm lately. Time to work together and get life livable again. Too much hate, and love is so much better.

Unfortunately, fallout from January 6 is going to dominate headlines for a while, and the wounds need to be exposed and cleaned before they can heal. But I just cancelled a bunch of YouTube channel recommendations that are rebroadcasting talking head shows and such, just no room left for me, it started to consume my life and that’s bad.

    Let’s hope 2021 looks up.

But, as I said on top, please keep this thread civil. @Michael, thank you for allowing discussions on this board, and thank you for always giving plenty of leeway before you decide to close something down.

I really value different opinions and I particularly find the viewpoints expressed here from those that live outside the USA to be interesting. I haven’t had the chance to travel much in my life and have only been out of this country twice- to Canada when I was 14 on a band trip and to the Dominican Republic for my sister’s wedding 10 years ago, and both of those trips were very sheltered. So hearing views from people I meet either in person or virtually who are from places I have never been is something I really enjoy. A few summers ago I was very close in proximity to @JohnnyGoodyear and we couldn’t make it work to meet up- that would have been entertaining! That man has some stories to tell I’m sure (etc, etc). As do so many others on here.

All the best to everyone on here, hoping for some great music in 2021.

PS- if you are not a person blessed with an ADHD mind 😉 , you may now use this as an example of exactly what it’s like before the adderall starts working...

@mrufino1 I am American, but was born in the UK. For me this is a great day, not just because it is the end of a period of being led by a man whose many faults don’t need to be reiterated, but because I believe we now have a chance to be led by a President who intends to address some hugely important issues.

Growing up in the UK (and also after living in Australia for a while), the US always seemed to me to be a country working to improve itself. At first I thought Dubya was doing a bad job after he got elected, but on reflection I don’t think he did badly at all. Obama did some great things, but could have done much more if he hadn’t been blocked by Congress so often. Trump just seemed to send the country backwards in so many ways, and made a mockery of the Presidency.

I’m looking forward to seeing improvements in all our lives now. I don’t know it will be fast, but I see the potential there.

As for ADHD - me too. I ramble sometimes, but as I’ve got older I’ve managed to cope with it better.

Well, we’ll see based on the outcome of the Senate trial and various litigation that’s pending.

That was weird as hell, wasn't it? I made a comparison earlier that his farewell address was like the final episode of WCW Monday Nitro for sheer surreality and pathetic display.

Hey, I’m not trying to ruin everyone’s celebratory vibe but would like to remind you that Trump is a symbol of something very real and still very present in the society. I think this because he also was elected through a democratic process some four years ago. Let us not forget that.

Let’s also remember that Brexit that came as a result of a referendum run on fake news came a little before Donald took office so we cannot blame him for it. He might have ridden the wave but he did not invent it.

Lastly I don’t believe for one second that the US will suddenly become the force for good in the world. It is pretty much impossible since it’s trajectory has always been the one of expansionism and global control. Let’s not forget that.

Still, it will be interesting to see how Biden will manage this. With COVID on his hands and possible recession. Is he going to reverse Trump’s protectionist deeds? If so what’s going to be the backlash? What is he going to do about Taiwan and the situation in the region. What about the Middle East? North Korea? Russia? Dude, it’s going to be a bumpy ride. I guess nothing new for any US president.

I’m sure glad to see the back of DT but I have a feeling he’ll be back in four years, and if he gets impeached proper there’s others like him encouraged by Trump’s success. Who knows, they might be even more charismatic, even if it’s hard to imagine right now, 😜

I've been surprised at how cathartic today's events have been. It's been building over the last few days, probably since Trump's twitter faucet of hate was turned off, and the news increasingly focused on the Biden administration's plans. But not being subjected to vile, hateful, ignorant, speech from the president every day is a relief. I've heard this sentiment expressed widely on TV and in op eds. The feeling is widespread here. Thanks very much to those on this thread outside the U.S. who sent well wishes. Much appreciated. And yes, we know that the world is not instantly perfect with Trump gone and that there's a lot of work to do.

  • @supadom, agree that US is not the cowboy in the white hat it likes to portray itself as. However, seeing that misinformation is down 73% on Twitter since Trump was banned and that, if he is convicted, he will no longer be able to run for office with a simple majority Senate vote, and the first woman has been confirmed as VP, the good guy wannabes are looking a bit better.

Michael Moore compared the 74,000,000 Trump voters to smokers in the 80s. As anti smoking sentiment ramped up people stopped smoking because they didn’t want to be shunned. He felt the same may be true for anti democratic leaning Republicans. Peer pressure is powerful. For Moore to appear to be more hopeful about the future is a bit of a barometer in itself.

My sarcasm apparently did not translate well. How about a mob of uneducated, cultureless thugs storming the Capitol? That was like a week ago

Sad thing about these dimwits is that their states are poor to begin with, by and large. If they secede, they will be even ‘broker’

  • What you said ......👍

  • Some words of comfort for Donald:

Young man there's no need to feel down
I said young man pick yourself off the ground
I said young man 'cause your in a new town
There's no need to be unhappy

Young man there's a place you can go
I said young man when you're short on your dough
You can stay there and I'm sure you will find
Many ways to have a good time.

(Sarcasm often hard to detect on the net at the best of times -- and the past few years have broken my ability to detect it -- I've assumed sarcasm a few times recently only to find that the other person was being dead serious.)

I hope he’s right, and that the removal of peer-pressure will swing things back to a more normal political outlook all round.

I agree that everything isn’t instantly better, and never will be. Biden does have a challenge ahead but I feel like he’s at least interested in meeting it.

It’s one thing to disagree with a person’s ideas or policies, another when that person’s sole purpose is to enrich themselves (and if said person’s supporters get a little as a result that’s ok- but if they get a little and he doesn’t...look out) and to use messages of hate to enable that sole purpose. I felt like the whole time the former president was in office, he didn’t believe in anything, and that was the most frustrating part for me. His whole life, he’s said anything or been with anyone who could further his goal of propping himself up. I can respect a person with strong views, even when I disagree with those views. I can’t respect emptiness.

Anyway, today is a day of relief and celebration, with the realization that there is a lot of hard work ahead. It was good to hear intentions to rebuild alliances, pay attention to the condition of the planet, and have the mindset of working with everyone. As roadblocks occur, and I know they will, I have to have faith that those leading now will work to overcome them.

One thing at a time though- breathing a sigh of relief today and celebrating hope is on my schedule. Oh, and sadly, so is tuning a vocal track, which I’m taking a break from now.

    Why listen to more lies?

I didn’t say I watched the whole speech, just the 20 sec snippet on some news site.

Anyway why would anyone be listening to these speeches? My brain switches off at: brave nation, unity, democracy this and democracy that ...after that its just brown noise.

Brown noise? Is it Something we can sample?

    White noise.
    Pink noise.
    Brown noise...

    All the way into Drambo!

  • The Neocons and MIC mouthpieces are salivating for the Biden presidency. How long until another war? First 100 days?

  • The appeal to the supernatural in virtually every speech today was very disturbing,-while I realize that there are organized religious throughout this country and of course they should have a voice .—- but in a Republic founded on the separation of church and state this Biased Sentiment,-is nonsense. We must return to a common sense solution,-just airing opinions . I point you to a podcast Glenn Beck has a conversation with Eric Weinstein a couple of days ago . sounds like a good place to start. greenie
