She used the word correctly in that it means to hope to achieve something.
For you, @ExAsperis99!
Keep it up, Sport!”
Trump is just a symptom of an obviously extremely deep problem at the heart of America and of American democracy. I am certainly glad to see the back of him, but we need extremely deep reform of American democracy and the modern world economic system. I'm not super optimistic, sadly. But I wish us - because this is much much more than just an American problem - success in that reform effort.
As a socialist, how could you possibly believe for a second that that would stop? It’s gonna get worse. Especially after the capital riot. Do you think broken brains suddenly fix themselves now that trump is out?
Ha! Perfect!
Agreed. Religion is a HUGE part of the problem.
Very well said.
Feels like a different, better world today.
We will all assume that English is not your first language.
Here's a topical video I made during the first lockdown in the UK. Music, words and execution by yours truly. Video is just a patchwork of stuff pulled from Youtube. Made with Capcut.
Let’s see how it goes. DT showed everyone around the world what most of us knew already. 74 million
You could say that about Hitler or Mussolini, but the reality is that the populations of Germany and Italy were played by leaders who knew how to manipulate their fears.
Trump was no different, and I don’t think the 74 million were rabid supporters of the worst of his prejudices and hatred.
Let’s just see how things go now.
I get it but 74 million still voted for him even after everything. That’s the part that scares me, some people were still ok with what he said and did and decided to overlook it.
I totally agree. It’s not shocking that there are still white supremacists in America. But it is shocking to me how many people here went along with it instead of being repulsed like anyone would be that has an ounce of empathy for others. A complete and total moral failure.
I found the fact that he got elected in 2016 worse in many ways - people saw him mock a disabled person, heard him voice his misogynistic and racist views, yet still elected him.
That they tried it twice was terrible, especially once he got used to lying about things he did in plain view. I hope there’s never another time when someone like that gets even close to being elected.
I don’t know if I would say worse, but I would definitely say equally bad. As if he hadn’t already made it abundantly clear by 2016 exactly who he was already.
You'd think one so concerned with semantics and clear communication would take the time to structure their posts, as well as use proper capitalization and punctuation.

Totally the same rhetoric, totally the same germinal thinking. Of course, one nation managed to repudiate it (twice now), and one, alas, did not.
We have to be vigilant, especially now. I fear that the QAnon people are ripe to be drawn further into nationalism and white supremacy if they are not given a way back into the mainstream.
Those leaders manipulated their fears AND their existing prejudice. Hitler would not have succeeded without prejudice having been widespread. Without a catalyst, that prejudice might not have been put to use exterminating people on a mass scale but it was there...and frankly everywhere in Europe. There were enough people that hated "the other" that the Germans found no shortage of accomplices in rounding up "the other" when they invaded other countries.
There is a disheartening amount of prejudice here in the U.S. we still haven't confronted it on a national scale.
We will repeat the mistakes of history if we don't confront our errors and evils and take responsibility.
Germany was forced to do that after the war in a way that the U.S. still hasn't.

They might not have been rabid supporters but they were fine voting for a man who intentionally locked little kids in camps separated from their parents...from whom they became permanently separated.
A lot of people can just switch on the 'well, people die from X everyday and no one cares' / cigarettes are still legal, blah blah blah, switch. It is not like there is a classic enemy that can be demonized to funnel people's anger / monkey brain predator fear instincts etc.
No, those twits aren’t going anywhere and marginalizing them is the only path forward until science finds a way to re-wrinkle brains that have become smooth as eggs. I was referring to me not being lumped in with them by the generally sane population.
If by generally sane you mean liberals, then yes they are gonna lump you in, always has been that way when the rubber hits the road. The Dems basically destroyed the party to kill Bernie’s run. Elected Biden. So the sane people seem to only be people who were never cheerleaders for either party. If you thought Trump was “unique” or worse than bush or whatever, you aren’t gonna stop lumping people in now.
