Have no fear, soon iPadOS14.7 is here
And in a few weeks time we'll get a glimpse of what iPadOS15 will bring...
Unfortunately, this weird bug is still here. As someone noticed, it’s related to the position of the iPad. If it’s laid horizontally (like flat on a desk), the audio engine stops. I can get the audio engine working by exiting my audio app, holding my iPad in a vertical position (landscape or portrait) and restarting the app.
Hopefully lower latency.
Might be a bug in their spacial "3d" audio processing for the internal speakers? Obviously this has to use different algorithms / parameters depending on the orientation of the device...
You can check Settings–>Battery to see if any apps are running in the background, or while the device is sleeping. Sometimes apps may enable Background Update or Push Notifications that can cause them to call home several times an hour. This happened to me with TestFlight. I don't believe the iOS system itself is working any harder.
I am on 14.4.1 but I have noticed that my battery is draining really faster lately.
Also iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017
I'm on 14.6 now and it's even worse than before. But what I've found out is that it's actually not that bad, the OS just does not show the correct battery percentage.
I decided not to charge the phone until the battery is completely drained. So it went from 100% to 1% twice as fast as before, but it's now sitting at 1% and it's been several hours already. Looks like it needs recalibration
On newer devices there's the 'Optimized Charging Thing' (Battery -> Battery Health) which can play tricks as it tries to figure out when you're not using the iPad and waits to fully charge so it's chard when it 'guesses' you'll be using the iPad the next time...
(As an example if you usually pick up your iPad/iPhone 8am in the morning and put it to charge when you go to sleep it will not fully charge the battery until some time before you pick it up in the morning).
If you want to be in full charge of the the battery charges disable that setting.
The best way I've found to 're-calibrate' is to let the device 'die on its own' before charging.
On my old iPad Air 2 there are some performance gains with 14.6(for example Atom 2 is 'snappier' due to all the web-kit optimizations done under the hood). Some here also report that crackling under heavy load is less common.
I'm looking forward to 14.7 which is likely the last update for my iPad Air 2...
(All 'reports' point to the fact that iPadOS15 will not be supported on the iPad Air 2).
Cheers!
Where are you seeing reports of which devices are going to be left behind? I put in an order for the new Pro because I figured my first gen Pro was about due to be unsupported. But, I haven't seen any reports from anyone that this is going to be the case. There's still time for me to cancel my order, so I'm wondering what others are predicting about my iPad's chances of getting iOS15.
There's no official word. Just the news / rumor sites that 'speculate' and previous years they have been quite accurate.
This site however still presumes iPad Air 2 will be supported, and if true I'll be very happy!

WWDC'21 is just around the corner so then we'll know more

My order is set to ship two days after the keynote at WWDC. I'm in the weird position of hoping that Apple doesn't get ahead of schedule and ship mine early. I'd really like to get another year out of my iPad, but I need at least one device that'll run iOS15 and my phone is stuck on iOS 12.
I'm pretty confident that all iPad Pro's will be supported by iPadOS15. It's most often the oldest devices that get sacked.
I sill have at least a week to decide before there's any chance of it being shipped. If the shipping times for the new Pro's weren't slipping farther and farther out I'd be more likely to cancel.
I was feeling pretty sure that the first gen pros wouldn't make the cut, but I'm only basing that on the idea that the processor is only one generation newer than the one in my iPhone 6 and that one hasn't been updatable for two years now. But, there was a big jump in power between the two processors, so maybe they will be able to get iOS15 to work on the old Pro.
Thanks for the input! I'd love to be able to get another year out of mine. I'd also like to be able to wait to see what gets put into the next Air. If they pushed a new A processor with four performance cores in the Air, that would likely be the sweet spot for me over the new Pro.
FWIW My wife and a friend both ordered the new 12” Pros and were told they’d arrive the first week of June. Then yesterday they both got notices that they would now arrive TODAY! So if you’re counting on ship dates, just be aware they seem to be pretty flexible still and could change at any time.
Thanks for the info. I guess I have less than a week to decide then. Mine's supposed to ship in the second week of June.
I'd be majorly surprised if your Pro wasn't supported by iOS 15. Look at the ol' Air 2 that's still supported for iOS 14. That model is way older and ain't even "Pro".
Unlike @Samu, I'll be somewhat relieved if they drop the Air 2 from iOS 15 support. I'm already getting that "one update too far" feeling about 14. Holding at 13.7 until when (if) they fix the disappearing AUv3 issue. 14 has not a single feature I want or need, but I do try to keep up with the latest OS that works, so I'm hoping a little that they get their shit together sometime before 15 drops otherwise I'll be stuck two major versions down, and I don't like that.
Anyway, I think the chance is negligible that they'd drop your Pro from iOS 15 support.
Yes, I had to disable that optimized charging setting after starting to experience battery problems. Can't say it made any difference but maybe in the longer run... Anyway, after re-calibrating the battery, it seems to be back to normal though more testing is required
I'm gonna repeat the process for my 10.5 Pro too
I don’t see the optimized settings on my iPad Pro 10.5 2017. Is that for newer iPad of for newer iOS. I’m on 14.4.1 ?
I believe it's available only on iPhones. My iPad doesn't have it either, there's no battery health info at all
Yeah, it makes sense that if the Air 2 made it to iOS 14 then the first gen Pro should make it to 15.
I'd live with iOS 14 for another year if I didn't need to test on 15. There's also the possibility of being able to use AVB over Thunderbolt on the new one that is swaying me towards keeping the order. I guess if I procrastinate on deciding long enough I'll have made my choice.
I’ve had an intermittent problem in the past where swiping on the occasional notification to clear it has instead opened the camera.
This is happening for almost every notification since upgrading my Air 2 to 14.6. This is driving me nuts, so does anyone know if there is a way to switch it off please?
