  • OMG, I bought the IAP too. So sad I hope we can keep it semi up to date... I just found it in my purchases and I think I have Wave storm again and my iPhone has Scythe! Thats ok I guess... I think the work put into even the wave tables is a shame to not keep alive, but If its a money thing then ok. I am broke so I get it. The weird thing is I feel like that wave table creator was just released or added IAP. I wonder if I can still buy that to help. I mean my phone bill can continue to die haha, if its this desperate.... Take care yawl and bear with Me, I am going through a funk, (no need to mention here). Staying calm is my goal, easier said than done! cheers

Just a heads-up: the wavetable creator is very powerful in theory and a complete crash fest in reality. I wouldn’t spend money on it right now, although I don’t regret doing so myself.

  • Thanks! MY goal in life is to find what apps will virtually never crash, by my 'theoretical' next show' live in 5 years when the unnamable is done with *sickness saga) Or Someone helpes me be4 havre to claim 'discrimination against food stamps' . Thanks for the morning cheers.

  • Sounds like I might be on my own here...
I really enjoy Wavestorm, and haven't had any significant issues using it at home. On stage the reliability might be a problem, but at home I'm happy enough to restart when things go wrong. If I want to use it on stage, I might resort to sampling it and playing back the samples - for what I paid, I can live with that.
As far as the economics go, I paid probably $5-10 dollars for this app, and maybe another $10 for the IAPs (don't remember the exact prices I paid). So the dev made maybe $14 in total from me after Apple takes their 30% cut, and that's it - $14 for however many hours he spent building it, and for however many hours of enjoyment I get from using it. If he wants another $14 from me, he's gonna have to write another app or come up with another set of IAPs I want. It's gonna take a whole lot of $14 customers to pay his bills - at those prices the dev's got a hobby paying pocket money, not a long-term business. I can totally understand why a dev would walk away if it's not bringing in enough money to keep food on the table.
Bottom line is something fundamentally has to change in the pricing of iOS music apps, if both users and devs are going to expect to receive and deliver on long-term support. iOS updates break stuff; although it's not the devs' fault, users currently expect them to put in the work to fix it for free. iOS music apps aren't ever gonna sell millions of copies; it's a niche market bringing in a few dollars per sale.
I suspect Wotja's subscription model is maybe the most viable in the long term, as the devs get an ongoing cash flow and users are clear on the fact that support is a year-by-year proposition. As a user, if the features don't keep evolving, Wotja starts breaking and is slow to get fixed or I just stop using it, I won't pay for the next version - it's in the dev's best interest to keep adding new features that I like to keep me coming back. If they do that, the small amount I pay each year for Wotja is an easy decision for me, but multiply that out by a lot of users and it's hopefully a useful sum of money to keep the dev interested.
If Wavestorm's gonna become abandonware, then ideally I'd like to get access to the source code in case I want to do something with it myself (or pay someone else to maintain and extend it). Maybe Apple could consider holding app source code in escrow to cover that contingency (i.e. if the app disappears from the store, then Apple releases the source) in exchange for waiving or reducing the $100/year "developer tax".

  • Apple, who who now removes apps from "my purchases" tab? doubt so... :(

  • Just curious if anyone was able to get WaveStorm loaded from the App Store.

Can anyone recommend an alternative? It was buggy as hell but this made some incredible noize.

    Nave?

it changed from Bitmaskstudio to Sonic Sector. The e-mail address of Jarryd doesn't exist anymore (I had some contact with him a while ago). Maybe Wavestorm has a other owner/developer now?

Quite possible. One of my favorite acoustic guitar apps used to be “Pearl Guitar”. It was a great sounding and great looking app that unfortunately got bought by some software acquisition company and then fell into a black hole of zero updates. A real shame.

  • Does anyone know if it is possible to export wavetables from Wavestorm?
It's a real shame this app has passed out, it has some interesting tables, and the wavetable editor is pretty good.

I haven’t been able export wavetables.
    It’s to buggy.

A pity though as it is a good sounding wavetable synth.

Yes, I really like how this synth sounds, but it was always full of crackles as well.

    Agreed.

I had both scythe for iphone and ipad before it
became Wavestorm so there maybe hope for it yet.

  • Yes, this synth is just brimming with great ideas. We need a dev mentoring program! Or maybe the developer just needed more time…

I think the dev is U.K based.
Brexit kicked in, app went down.
    Coincidence?

The developer has pulled has apps a few times in the past without notice. He gave up on Scythe a few years ago and shutdown his YouTube channel suddenly at that time. He pulled a previous app from the app store a few years before that. When he pulled the YouTube channel it was surprising as it wasn't long after an update. I was working on putting together a few tutorials and was corresponding with him. He said he decided that it wasn't worth his while to spend any more time on it and he wasn't really interested any more.

I was surprised when he re-surfaced and updated it to WaveStorm -- and then retreated. My sense is that bug reports and feature requests bother him.

    I also was very surprised.
The update landed and I was like ,'didn't expect that, cool'.

My sense is that bug reports and feature requests bother him.

Yeah, I can empathise with that.

I've seen some of the comments and demands in regards to dev's over the years.
I'm like ,'wow, you guys have patience'.
    I've learnt a lot.

    I hope so.

    As long as he's happy.

  • I can’t find it in my purchases, but I can in my purchase history. Along with all the in app purchases.

So there’s no hope? No refund either? :(

Refunds only can happen very close to purchase. So, no. No hope for a refund.

It isn't showing up in purchased items for me either -- bummer because I offloaded it to clear up some space recently not knowing that it had been fully removed from the store.

  • @espiegel123 Agh! You were so close! A bummer indeed.

Check the "Purchased" section. It's there if you've purchased it.

It has nothing to do with this app but one of my alltime favorite games even disappeared from my purchased list (also not available in the“hidden“section) and i can‘t play that anymore :( And yes,it was 64 bit.I played it on my old ipad on ios 14 no problem.Any other possibilities to get it back? (i did not restore my ipad from backup,i did set it up new)

Sometimes I come across an app that I know I’ve download it before but it has a price or a get button indicating I haven’t downloaded it. If this happens I tap on purchase but Do Not confirm purchase. I close that box by taping on the X. After, If you have purchased the app before, it will then show up as the cloud with the download symbol, instead of the price button or get button.

I’m about 50-50 on remembering which ones I actually downloaded at some point and which ones I just thought I did. Lol.

  • The app i was talking about was already pulled from the store quite some time ago unfortunately but still worked great.Right now it‘s like it never existed (except in my folder with the purchase receipts i guess)

    Good tip. Thanks.

  • One of my favorite synths with a genuinely unique sound. I'm sorry to see it disappear.

Thanks to the dev/s for the hours of enjoyment I've had with Scythe & Wavestorm and I wish him/her/them well for the future

  • A real shame to see it gone. Seemed a short lived venture. I thought I would still find it in my purchased options. Is it normal to remove it completely?

It’s happened to me with others apps in the past, when I was on my 128 gb Air 2 I’d have offloading turned on to manage space and I’d tap on apps to re-download and couldn’t, so it definitely influenced my decision to get 1tb of storage on my 2020 IPad Pro and keep offloading turned off. I really wish we could still store apps on our computers via ITunes and move them to an external hd.

  • I was playing with Wavestorm only a couple of days ago. It makes sounds that no other iOS synth makes, and they're incredibly useful in the spooky/atmospheric area
