Coolest looking or visually inspiring synths

I'll admit this may be a silly topic to some, but I'm kinda interested in which synths you all think look the coolest visually, in terms of interface, design, etc. Or which synths you gravitate towards due to their appearances.

Something I found is that sometimes if I really like the way a synth looks, I will feel more inspired, use it more, and possibly dig deeper, and try to get more sounds out of it. I know it's psychological and maybe a bit superficial, but if I'm potentially gonna stare at an interface for a long time tweaking sounds, I like it to look cool 😎

For me, I love the way odyssei/ lexington looks. The faders, the black and orange, white, and gold line skins look so cool. It's just a handsome synth and it makes me ignore the fact that the faders are so tiny and sensitive and the lack of auv3. Helps that it sounds thick ;)

I also love sunvox, even though I can barely wrap my head around it. Customizeable colors for everything and an old school did terminal look; I feel like some crazy cyberpunk hacker whenever I fire that thing up, despite not being able to track for the life of me.

I quite like grooverider's all-on-one page interface. It's like boom, everything's right there, go crazy. Bonus points for semi customizeable colors, I tried to make it look like a digitakt (which I am actively battling GAS not to get)

Special mention for magellan 2, which makes me feel like I'm looking at a submarine panel or something, ivcs 3 which reminds me of the cover of "add violence" by nine inch nails, and shockwave, though for some reason it's crash city for me in aum.

What are your opinions? Is sound all that matters, or do some synths inspire you with their looks or interfaces?

I don’t even really see a synth after about the first 4 hours using it. On the other hand, I curse an app with difficult controls constantly and forever.

  • Cyclop UI makes me not want to use it.
    Enjoying the Bleass Alpha interface.

I can understand that. If it makes the sounds you want easily, the interface can fade away into the background. I can imagine especially so if it's mapped to a controller.

I had never even heard of cyclop! It definitely looks... Interesting 😬

Agreed bleass looks great and I've heard good things.

Also on my wishlist are the iceworks synths...

  • Yeah I personally like the iceWorks interfaces. Apart from the preset menus which I am not a fan of.

  • Factory, not found alternatives for all above points

  • Electribe Wave looks pretty nice to me, as does Model 15.

    Mitosynth
    Tardigrain
    Spacecraft Granular
    Spectrum Suite
Most interesting UIs off the top of my head...?
    Will ponder some more....
    Edit Apesoft too
    Edit 2 Amazing Noises

Wow spacecraft does look really cool actually. Now that I think of it, I don't really have any dedicated granular synths...

  • Factory for cool looks and tweakability
Aparillo for weirdness, just fiddle some knobs and get lost (although Gavinski’s tutorial gave me a bit of insight)
TAL U-No-LX for creativity as in it feels so intuitive

Another wild looking synth I've never heard of. I gotta say it does look really really interesting... Gonna have to look into this one!

I have a feeling I'm gonna pick up all the iceworks synths at some point, especially since they keep popping up in efficient cpu threads.

Agonizer looks and sounds amazing, but I might have to save it for when I upgrade to a newer ios. I'm on 12. Something cause it was working great for me for most things, except kai aras's synths. As much as I love em, Volt and shockwave crash on load in aum quite often for me. Might be cause I'm on an old os, but it causes any unsaved patches to be forever lost. I'll upgrade soon but I'm afraid ios14 will break more things than it will fix...

Animoog nods to the past and looks to the future with looks and synthesis. Come on Moog, please make an AUV3!

    Yaaassss!!!

Layr, Lagrange and Agonizer come to mind. Shockwave is uniquely yet simply designed and the purple pops off the screen.

Drumcomputer is also a synth...fantastic to use and look at.

    Great picks!

  • Mitosynth, Thor, Nave, Lagrange.

    Numerical Audio: skeuomorphism
    Bleass: minimalism
    Fabfilter and Klevgrand: neumorphism

  • iSpark still looks lovely.

  • Figure
    Flynth
    FM4

  • These are all great. If I might make a case for a desktop VST, Vital’s UX is so visually compelling.

  • Poison 202
    OB-XD
    Mela

  • Real synth: ARP Quadra; Behringer Crave

iOS synth: Nave; Pure Acid; Rotor; TC-11

  • Mitosynth
    Tc-11
    TF8
    SpringSound

  • Real Synths:
    Novation AFX Station
    Teenage Engineering OP-1
    Moog One

    Classic: Gleeman Pentaphonic Clear

  • I find it truly astounding that in a post asking "Coolest looking or visually inspiring synths,"

Only one user actually posted an image to support their case!

    Very disappointing...

Not software, but @SNystrom check out the Gleeman!

  • Now we're cooking! 🤗
