  • @PaulB, in an earlier message you mention Geo Synth as an expressive player, is that alternative to iFretless, or can it do something unique? Do you use it for anything in particular?

  • Geo can cover more octaves and can have longer rows. It can also do poly bends over MIDI, which iFretless doesn't get quite right. Unfortunately, it doesn't do velocity sensing.

  • Thanks for that PaulB, sounds like I should stick to iFretless. Can't wait for Brass and Strings!

This thread is required reading if you're interested in bs-16i and want and idea of how to find sounds and use the app:

I would note that it's generally a good idea to use it with .sf2 files smaller than 100MB, or probably less than 50MB. Some of my favorites are the e-mu Planet Phat Hip-Hop (great synth basses) and some various symphony ones.

Thanks for this. Appreciate the re-direct. JG

While I would be the first to agree that apps the like of TJ, Geo Synth and iFretless are best suited to playing with the nuances required to reproduce the performance of a single instrument, I would also argue that those nuances are not all appropriate to ensemble playing by groups of instruments. Vibrato and glissando techniques tend to be eshewed in favour of variation in articulation and dynamics, something that bs-16i actually does quite well. This demo was recorded live in one take on the two onscreen keyboards using a different stack of 4 patches on each keyboard.

Nicely done Mister B. Makes me feel like filming the scene that goes with this :)

  • It's possible that this has been posted before, but there are quite a few soundfonts here, and they seem to work and sound ok, at least the ones I've tried.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear If you can come up with anything that fits it, feel free. I'd enjoy seeing it.

  • Changing the topic: I have imported a number of MIDI files into bs-16i (noting that the state of free MIDI files online nowadays is absolutely lousy), and a few cannot be deleted from the song library - does anyone know of a workaround?

  • Have you tried iFunBox from a PC?
