Yepp! if/when Novation gets in touch via e-mail (I told them it's ok) I'll 'spill my guts' to them
Add a built-in metronome, resurrect the 'Novation Audio Hub'(With USB ports and USB-PD) and bake it into LPPro4...
...after that is done it would be a no-brainer to add 4 'Audio Scene Looper' tracks to and maybe CV outs etc. etc.
This would be a 'perfect' Audio HUB for iPads and iPhones as it would be an audio-interface/midi-controller/charger all baked into one device! Sure it wouldn't be 'cheap' but at around $400 I think it could sell like crazy
(Once the 'core' is in place they could sell both Key & Pad versions of it).
I'm still looking for an audio/midi interface that hooks straight to the iPad with no hubs or dongles and can also power the device...
Drambo and Atom 2 are shaping up to be one heck of a combo
Me too - I bought my Launchpad X on impulse when it was first mentioned way back last autumn for future integration with Atom 2. It's transformed my workflow, with LK, Drambo, Quantum Komposer, Ableton on desktop and now finally Atom itself (late to the party myself as still on iOS 13). I'm finding no need now for a regular keyboard (tragic, as I've been putting time in to improve my rudimentary piano skills) - pads (and knobs) all the way for me now
To make this a useful post, here is a link to the Mozaic script that enables the Launchpads in iOS 13. It's from another thread, but I nearly missed it myself, despite having ABF compulsive checking syndrome:
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/44405/atom-piano-roll-2-use-this-script-for-ios-13-launchpad-compatibility
Copy the text into Mozaic (I did it in standalone), save it as a new preset. Open in an empty AUM project, route Mozaic to the Launchpad in AUM's midi routing and press the appropriate Mozaic pad for your Launchpad, the 'session' light should then come to life on the Launchpad. Save that AUM project (for the next time), then open up or create a session with Atom instances in.
Hopefully this method will be redundant soon, but it was very helpful to me. Thanks to those who created it.
Launchpad (and scripting) integration for iOS 13 is now fixed in the beta.
I just want to say that Atom 2 is pretty much an essential app in the iOS-world for me, much like AUM. Everyone making music should have it. Apart from its features and usefulness as a tool, the manual is just outstanding. Best in class, I wish other devs would take note!
I'm on a jailbreaked device and had a problem not seeing the notes grid and notes. Culprit was a tweak I used to get dark mode on webpages but the name of WebShade. Just a heads up, if you experience anything similar on your jailbroken device. WebShade injects CSS files on the whole system, rendering Atom 2 borked. If you are in need of a similar tweak, there are a couple available that apply the effect on a per app basis.
BTW, any Synthstrom Deluge users here? I'd love to see support for it but I guess there isn't much demand, compared to something like a Launchpad.
Please vote to get Atom on patchstorage.
Hey everyone.
tl;dr: Make sure you're logged in, and click on the heart icon on https://patchstorage.com/requests/atom-piano-roll-2/
So @tk32 was kind enough to reach out to the admins and ask for Atom to be added. Between many of us, we know that would make a lot of sense. Atom's extensions sandbox is one of the most open-ended features available for you to play with. For those of you adventurous enough to build something cool, it would be good to be able to easily share your configurations, themes and scripts with the community. In turn, now with the latest version of Atom adding easy drag-and-drop import of those extensions, it would be good for the community to have a go-to place for downloading them.
To gain entry on that website, we now have to join a queue and raise community votes before they consider adding it to the site. As far as I know, this wasn't necessary a while back, but it makes sense: to keep the platform high-quality and prevent it from getting out of control, they need to gauge interest. So if you think Atom should have a home there, please vote.
Hearted for a worthy cause!
Done!
No-brainer!
Done.
thanks for the votes/support for Atom 2 on patchstorage.com
We already have 27 votes in the first 3 hours. At this rate, we'll hopefully get our new category added soon.

Success! Atom has its patchstorage space now. Thanks to @tk32 for taking the initiative and all who voted for it so quickly.

Sweet! Can’t wait to see what the Atom 2 gurus upload!
Thank you everyone for voting!
yes. thanks everyone. I think we got approved in record time (<3 hours)
I have it on good authority there will be some inaugural files uploaded in the coming days.
Watch this space...
If you want to delete the first 8 bars, there's a few ways to do it. My favorite is:
1. Clipboard > Copy All
2. Patterns > Add Empty
3. Clipboard > Paste at start
Another way is:
1. Double tap to select all
2. Move > Bar x8 (perhaps I should add a "to start" button in there as well?)
If you want to just set the loop braces to skip the empty parts of your clip, my favorite way to do it is:
1. Double tap to select all
2. Long press selection
Of course, you'll need to set the clip length afterwards too if it's not a one-shot.
If none of that sounds fun to you, I'll look into adding a 'crop' feature.
Loop brace snapping is tied to the snap settings. There's currently no way of having different snap settings between the grid and the loop braces. Where would you add this feature, and how would you toggle between the different settings?
Yes, I think this a good idea. I'll do it in 2.0.6.
Playhead follow is a known feature request that is on the backburner.
@zah I've just implemented "crop to notes", "crop to selection" and "crop to loop". Want to join the beta to test, since you're the one who suggested them? (DM me)
@blueveek : is an option coming so that you can record without knowing how long your new clip will be? I often sit down and record and just “roll tape” to capture the flow of ideas with no idea how long those ideas will last or what size blocks they fit into.
Backlogged.
Is something like "Capture MIDI" what you're actually after? Continuously record in a circular buffer that remembers the last X bars. Once you like how the last X bars sounded, you print the buffer.
Or do you just want to noodle around forever?
Or should the playhead "wait" to record until you do some action?
Can you go into some detail on how you'd like to see this working?
For my use case, I don’t want a circular buffer (though that sort of option would also be good But that is a different thing).
I often want to sit down and press record and capture everything I play until I press stop: either because what I want to capture is a spontaneous full length improvisation/composition .... or because I have a lot of ideas that I want to get on “tape” immediately without having to figure out the niceties of phrase length and tempo..I just want to capture the flow now with minimal fuss (press record and go) and come back to it later and pick what I need.
I do this too. At the moment I just speed press (track and field style) the + bar button until I have enough bars to not worry about.
That’s a lot of pressing if you might play for 10 minutes. At the moment, I use something else that supports recording without pre-setting a length...but I’d prefer to use Atom.
What do you do after finishing recording? Do you pick parts of the recording to edit? Would "recording takes" be better instead? I'm a bit weary of allowing very very long clips – it's just personal preference, but I like my clips to "grow vertically" instead of "horizontally".
I copy and paste the bit I like at the start of a new pattern. Even though I’m messing about I’m usually only looking for a 4 or 8 bar loop from it.
Recording takes would be great but I’d probably still do horizontal growth sometimes too
What happens with the finished recording depends. Sometimes the performance is meant to stand on its own. Sometimes, the purpose is to capture ideas and I’ll go back later and pull out the bits that I want.
No, a take recorder isn’t what I am talking about..as I said this is for situations where I haven’t thought out phrase length (or time signature and maybe not even the real tempo).
Lots of musicians work this way during the idea-catching phase (and even during final phases when the composition doesn’t fit into blocks that start and end on the beat).
Phrase recorders and take recorders only work if you are thinking in those terms at the moment. And often when someone is generating ideas the ideas don’t neatly break down into neat blocks of known or equal sizes. And, a ton of non-EDM music (maybe even most) doesn’t break-down into blocks that start and stop on bar lines.
Is the bit you like usually at the end of your noodling session? If so, then I think "Capture MIDI" would do a better job.
If the bit you like is not at the end, would you consider this instead: printing the buffer with "Capture MIDI" immediately once you know that you've played something you like, then adding a new pattern to continue experimenting?
Right, gotcha.
@blueveek : as an example, last week I had ideas for related sections of a song that I had been working on running in my head. I turned on the recorder (in this case an audio recorder) and played through them...and a few sections as I played them, I played them a few different ways since each time I played the section had an idea about how it might be played differently and could do that without interrupting the creative flow. At a later date, I went back to re-listen and decide what worked.
In this case, I realized (and hadn’t been aware at the time) that while it was mostly in 4 there was section in 7 and another in 6. And the section in 4 had a transitional bar of 3 at the end.
That sounds more exotic than it is. A lot of Beatles tunes and pop tunes have little elements like that.
Makes sense. I'm cautious because I don't know if this is a "better horse" vs. "car" kind of situation. I'm not making any judgements about it yet, just gathering information.
For example, with custom scales, I'm inclined to think that what people really want is "suggested scales" instead – as in, play some notes, and Atom tells you what scale fits (one of the suggested scales being "just the notes you played").
I personally am not terribly interested in scale-related features so much. But it does seem to me that a mode where it can just record what you play as long as you play is not exotic. It might be a flow not well represented at this point in the thread since interest in the thread at this point may have weeded out the many people that would be interested in non-clip style recording.
