Ok, sorry for not having read through the 40 pages yet but a quick question that @blueveek or others may answer, if you please ...
My use case is to record external synths (and internal ios synths of course!) into AUM, with the aide of Atom. I wish to record midi, edit if necessary, send back to external and record in AUM. Multi channel midi.

Can this be done? If so, a short explanation or tutorial would be alot to ask, but a great help.

I'm using a Presonus iTwo interface or a Focusrite iTrack dock. Thanks!!

Do you want to record multiple midi channels at the same time and preserve each note's channel? If so, you'll need multiple clips, one for each channel.

If you want to record from multiple midi channels, and funnel them into a set of output channels? Then that is possible, all from within a single clip.

There's a feature request logged about supporting the former use-case.

    @blueveek Thanks that was fast!

Ummm, first case I'd like to record from one synth - at a time - into AUM.
Second case, I would like to send a performance create on external Korg Electribe 2 (several channels) at once into AUM, possible?

I'm mostly a one synth at a time guy but the 2nd option would open up huge worlds to me. Complex to set up with Atom and AUM?

From what you're describing, all of this is possible. Just like with any other project in AUM (or other DAWs), you just need to be careful with your routing. If this is your first time using AUM or routing MIDI things in general, expect a learning curve. If not, then you'll be fine!

Very good and that is all I needed to know. I just didn't want to dig and dig only to find out that it isn't possible. Thanks!

No problem. Just be careful with your routing and channel filtering when recording that performance. This is very easy to mess up.

Ok man, it all works like a charm. Personal game changer. I’m just digging into this app but I am loving it! Thanks for great support too.

    From the manual
    Refresh
The refresh button checks for new clipboard entries that may have just been created in another instance of Atom2 (or other host).
Other host doesn't really work after the host is launched. Can auv plugs communicate with an instance on a different host, or it's just about writing / reading a file ?

Theoretically yes, there are ways. No, I’m not “writing/reading a file”, disk IO is something that Atom doesn’t do except for script logging. Snippets are not stored on disk by Atom. Yes, for now hosts need a restart, but this will be improved.

Was that manual a collab between @blueveek @winconway and @tk32? Beautiful work gentlemen, hats off big time

  • I second this, a great manual, thank you all @tk32 @blueveek @winconway

    Thank you gents. <3

Re: the manual.. @winconway laid down the framework and first draft text. I expanded the text, added diagrams and designed it. @blueveek helped as our (very patient and gracious) technical editor. Teamwork.

If anyone spots any mistakes, gremlins, omissions, or points of confusion in the manual please let us know here.

There are bound to be a few :)

MIDI copy between apps, that would be something B)

Couple of typos spotted in manual... Message changed to PM.

  • @SpookyZoo

Ouch. a potentially sackable offence :)

Feel free to PM me if that’s easier/neater.

Cool, just saw this after my edits. I'll PM any others I spot. Great job!

So close to heaven but a "Huge" frustration ... PATTERN ..
It would be really cool that the note on velocity (from the trigger) selects the pattern, ex with 8 pattern : velocity 1-15 -> pattern 1, velo 16 - 31 -> pattern 2...
    And with the CC trigger, CCN = 0, woul be like a note off, CCN = 1 -> pattern 1, CCN = 2 -> pattern 2, usw...

.. or just a little PatternSelect in the scripts

Experimented building a simple script for my Yamaha Digital piano, in hope of that allowing me to avoid the regular AUM Midi routing. Set it up withput any Midi routing and it is indeed able to receive Midi. However OnMidiNotOn (and off) seems to be called twice for every received note, same timestamp (and velocity) both times ( used console.log to detect this). Might I be doing something wrong or is this a bug?

Right, there where literally 0 users on iOS 12 before the update, so I wanted to be safe. I'm working out the iOS 13 kinks at the moment (and I think I've finally nailed them down thanks to some incredible investigative work by @MrBlaschke and @espiegel123). Once the dust settles there I'm happy to have a look at iOS 12.

I tried to buy Atom 2 just now. The highest my iPad Air 1 will go is iOS 12.

  • Hi all! Is there an easy way to “paste” a midi sequence from launchpad to atom 2? Thanks!

I’m hoping the ‘Print to MIDI’ from Launchpad Pro’s Ableton functionality manages to find its way into Atom2. That would be ace!

  • So you basically have to play in each recording?

Not immediate, but easy enough. See this video by @FloRi89:

It's in the works. We've reverse-engineered the sysex and it looks like it's possible to add it. But it's on the backlog for now.

I have an iPad Air 1 knocking around. I just use it to play the iTunes app whilst I’m making dinner.

I’ve often wondered if there’s a way to install a later os on it, maybe with jailbreak? Main reason is so it supports the newer reminders app!

If a select a bunch of notes in a clip, and then Fill/Zoom In to work on the midi, is there a way to have that current window play/loop? Or do I have to manually reset the loop brace ends each time I Fill/Zoom In my selections?

Long press the selection to set the loop markers to that selection. Double tap inside the loop brace to expand it back to the full clip width. See the manual for more info on this and many other hidden shortcuts :)

Still hoping for ios12 support - even if some features aren’t working/supported... I probably wouldn’t be a “power user” - just need some basic functions (atom1 still works pretty well for my needs). Any eta on when you’ll look at ios12 support @blueveek ?

  • Hello out there !!
Is there a continuous recording mode ??
No loop and not having to add bars
    Thank you

Still working on the iOS 13 scripting issues for now, so no ETA yet.
But if you, or anyone else, has an iOS 12 device to lend me for a short while at some point, I can give it a shot.

Not yet, but known and planned.

  • Novation just send me a questionnaire since I bought and registered a LPPro 3 a while ago...

One of the reasons I gave them was @blueveek 's amazing work with Atom 2!
Can't lie as Atom 2 was one of the reasons I actually got it in the first place :)

I put the LPPro3 on '8' on a scale of '10' partly because it's missing a built-in metronome which would have been really handy when used as a stand-alone sequencer.

If I was to improve a potential LPPro4 I'd give it a few assignable 'modulation strips'(Mod-Wheel, Pitch-Bend etc.) and a bunch of 'knobs' for starters and maybe even a sustain-pedal input. (I mean they could put some CV outs for modular stuff too and why no resurrect the Novation Audio Hub, add an audio looper etc. etc.).

Now that I'm used to the pads I have a hard time to even look and play a regular keyboard :D
(I mean I can easily access more note at once than on a 61 key keyboard and with a bit of cheating with hiding the out-of scale notes it's a blast!).

Thank you once again for Atom 2!
    /Samuel

  • @blueveek hey! Can not get to work latest beta with Drambo PC messages. I was able to start/stop slots 1 and 3 with PC messages 0 and 2 (choke mode on, and only start at note on checkbox is ticked). But

    • slot 2 don't start which set up to listen PC 1 (when triggering pattern #2)
    • slots 1 and 3, each with 2 bars clip are overlaping for 4 beats when changing pattern from #1 to #3 or back.

Is it drambo or atom (or my) bug? Any recommendation for how to set things up?

Same here! Though I recently got the Launchkey Mini and 25, and I'm actually liking them a lot. Novation got a lot of things right with their latest generation of controllers.

That beta version is not the one that adds Drambo pattern integration.
