  • Interesting.

They should also make a high pass filter and call it vegan or something.

Every time you used it there would be a long introductory section explaining what it does that you can never skip.

  • Oooh, nice. Their compressors are top notch, I'm sure this will be similarly useful

👏👏 + it would also pop up randomly, with the exact same intro, when you were trying to do something completely different in another app.

  • Thanks for posting @Jumpercollins!

@CaelumAudio On my iPad Pro 10.5 / IOS 13.6 and using AUM as host, most of the presets only renders audio on the right channel. If i lower the mix (many presets use 100%), original audio of the left channel returns.

Okay, that seems to have been a temporary problem. After rebooting, the AU works as expected.

  • Ohhhh, I added this to some drums with the preset "protein drummer", instantly sounds like the beat is on steroids. Like it went to the gym and came back with massive gains.

Looks like a great plugin, I'll try this out tonight, see what it can do. Seems you are on a roll @CaelumAudio

  • Thanks
Shoved some drum and bass through this

@CaelumAudio this is an excellent app from first impressions. A couple of minor recommendations. I think that the presets would benefit from some more subtle selections. They are pretty mash-up. Also, the delete icon could be moved further away from the left arrow. Especially as it is one touch.

    Nice work 👍

  • @CaelumAudio why no frequency selection for lows and highs in the EQ? Only mid.

  • @CaelumAudio is the Saturation Tone dial a low pass filter? What’s the slope?

[I should probably just wait until I have a list of feedback rather than thread bombing lol]

Agreed, there is a radical change in tone. This should be much subtler, especially the mix effects.

  • Does it have oversampling?

  • This is excellent on acoustic drums, but I wish the preset selector menu was much larger. Digging into the various folders is difficult. I can only imagine what navigation would be like on an iPad Mini — or (God forbid!) an iPhone...

  • This is exactly my type of plugin (d’n’b producer here) - been looking for a new beef-upper for a minute!

Latest tunes are on the No Carrier Recordings Bandcamp page

    https://nocarrierrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/ok-ray-bans-dead-man-walking

I wouldn’t say iOS only, but I go as far as I can with NS2 (iPhone!) before migrating the stems to Logic for mixdown - I’m a big fan of FAC Bandit and RX 950, so looking forward to the Beef!

Edit: I didn’t realise that Bandcamp link would parse like that!

Glad the problem has fixed itself. Rebooting seems to solve all sorts of AUv3 problems. Someone sent feedback anonymously via TestFlight saying that the AUv3 wasn't showing up - if that person sees this then please try rebooting and letting us know how you get on.

That was the inspiration behind the preset name! A gym drummer drinking a protein shake.

We wanted to put in presets with some more radical sounds to show what it can do. Do you think the addition of a few more subtle presets would be beneficial? We will take a look at moving both the delete and save icons, thanks for the feedback.

The highs actually change frequency when you move with the mid. The frequencies were chosen after much experimentation to try and keep it simple and to sound most effective. They're really wide bands (we're talking 0.1 to 0.4 q values) so they are general tone shaping, nothing particularly surgical,.

It is indeed a low pass. It's very smooth slope at around -6 dB/oct.

Do you think the presets need changing entirely or do you think some more extra subtle presets should be added?

Yes it does but isn't currently majorly oversampled (4x oversampling). Do you feel it needs more?

It is possible... but difficult... :D Our test iPhone 4s has a screen that doesn't match up properly with the digitiser so its hard to tell if stuff is too small or if touches are being sent to the wrong point on the UI! Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for all the feedback so far. We are really pleased with the response to Beef so far and hope to hear some of the stuff that people are making with it soon!

Sorry if I have missed anyone, there are a lot of comments here!

AU contraire, I’m now vegan and I don’t want to talk about it. 🙊

You must be gutted you just told the internet then.

    Ps. Meant affectionately.

I’m vegetarian while we’re confessing. So I get to sit quietly in a restaurant while the meat eaters scrutinise my plate before pre emptively lecturing me for lecturing them, and the vegans string together composite phrases using variations of ‘ethical’ ‘paleo’ ‘progressive’ and other randomly generated hashtags from the huffington post, in between telling me they’re vegan every few minutes in case I developed early onset Alzheimer’s during the meal.

Seriously. No one has ever met a vegan and walked away without knowing it. It’s one of history’s universal axioms.

LOL and the app reminds you why you’rea bad person if you don’t agree with it’s opinions and forces you to push agree in order to use it

  • Fantastic compressors. Really great.

Just tried it. I absolutely love it.
It can do so much: eq, compression, limiting, saturation, transient shaping ... but in a very focused manner, with “beef” in focus. It’s just perfect a on drum bus but I’m sure it’ll enhance whatever you put on. I’m a fan of Tape Pro, and totally sold on this one. My concern is that something happens with the beta, cos this is gonna be happily over used.
I do have an issue with it, rather important one. The level increases considerably when using it, specially as you crank the saturation. It needs a “gain” control at the end of the chain to properly A/B and keep the volume steady. Borrowing the “auto gain” feature from Tape Pro would be awesome.
    Great, great job.
