New TouchOSC beta with LUA scriptings

Just in case you didn't heard about it and you want to use your iPad / iPhone / Android device as touch MIDI controller: there is a new TouchOSC beta out there and it works very well. It is way more complex than the old original version. And it has LUA scriptings.
You can ask for a licence key via mail to the dev.

  • Contacted the dev. The old version never quite worked for and I used Lemur. But this looks nice and worth a shot.

  • Cool, how does one download the iOS app?

  • Once your access is confirmed you could ask for or get an invite link of a Testflight version of TouchOSC beta.

Hopefully they update touchviz also, that could be a great app

  • @psyndrome That's looking good! Just sended a request for a testflight invitation.

  • I just bought TouchVIZ just because I want to support the dev. ❤️

  • great! I was hoping something like this to happen.

  • Interesting. I recently gave up on TouchOSC in favor of MIDI Designer Pro 2 but if this new version plans to have at least everything that MDP2 has I may come back to it since I can’t stand MDP2’s aesthetic.

Bought it myself, just want some audio responsive effects or midi sync so i can start using it as i really like it. Just cant integrate it with my music production as is

  • Oh cool. Had bought touchosc some time ago and was wondering if there's a way to make it react also to incoming MIDI messages. Scripting looks definitely powerful in that direction.

  • Hi. I do t know much ABIUT these apps but was wondering what controls they open up and if you could make something like velocity keyboard app for example in either this or midi designer?

  • Ahh. Cool. Looks like no need for a separate PC, Linux or Mac app to create control surfaces. Correct?

That was the only thing that kept me from getting along with TouchOSC before.

Yeah, this is one of the most important things: it works standalone! :)

That’s fantastic news. I never really used it for the same reason.

Plus lua? Yes please. Though, ironically, the addition of lua makes it more likely that I’d want to use a desktop editor. I’m an asshole.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Just bought it...using it to control my Drambo sessions. It's great! Was looking for a way to create a performance surface with a nice, clean aesthetic...that could be edited and saved right on the iPad. Never really designed user interfaces before...this is going to be fun!

  • Where can you download mk1 templates?

  • It does take some patience to use this for building a controller without a keyboard and mouse. I managed to build a page for the Audiothingies MicroMonsta2 using my fingers and an iPad. It’s my first go at using TouchOSC, but it seems pretty straightforward.

wow, @ashen_hand you beat me to it! Great job on the layout. Any chance you'd be willing to share this editor?

I love my Micromonsta 2. Such a great little synth!

Sure, not much of it is locked, be careful in the edit screen. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4pw5b7ylca7hw8i/AAAm07EZVIE3V2zSQ0D2IDwsa?dl=0

For my own education, if I were to use this, would I have to learn every dial for micromonsta, or are the CCs predefined in the synth? I'm assuming you have to do MIDI learn for each control?

  • Would this app work for something like creating a control surface for Cubasis? Does it have hui or mcu?

From my experience, CC numbers listed by manufacturers in the manuals of synths and such are “baked” in and are ready to receive. With the TouchOSC app, a knob or whatever just needs to be assigned it’s control conditions. In the app I turned off the default messages and added them to the controls as I was building, using the green plus button. Just assign a number and set controller to constant or whatever you need.

Thanks so much!! I never knew about this so appreciate the explanation!

  • Can anyone comment if this is worth moving from Lemur to and what it has that Lemur does not from a technical perspective?

It doesn't have HUI or MCU.

As for whether or not it could be used for Cubasis, that depends on whether or not Cubasis allows midi mapping of its mixer controls and also on whether it outputs MIDI when its mixer controls are moved. The latter is needed for two-way updating of the faders. I don't think outputs MIDI when mixer controls are moved.

Some clever person might be able to accomplish HUI or MCU through LUA scripting I suppose.

Can it or, could it do something like this (Kapture Pad) for AUM? Won’t mind timing out to accomplish this….

Better yet.. someone build it and you will be handsomely compensated… Lumar/Liine abandoned this gem..
