The (at the time) other half of the AB team kinda dragged me over here. From one fiery iOS music pit into another one.

What a great shot of nostalgia.
Loopy was my connection to all things iOS.
I would check constantly to see if any of my apps were updated with AB compatibility.
When VocaLive got the treatment I was giddy. Haven’t used it in forever.
My first device was an iPad 3. What a stinker.
I should know but can’t remember how I first stumbled across it. Lol. Glad I did.
It seemed like a decent place. I stuck around.
I wonder what the original title was...
I have dabbled in Title Editing and comment editing to an degree that the permanent record
is a puzzle of comments on comments that have been changed. The forum creators are very wise in using the "quote" feature which also inserts the original comment into the reaction comments.
Yes, he had a partner in the beginning, who has since moved on.
Less now than in the beginning but not as much now than there may be in the future.
Audiobus was the first and only way of getting more than one iOS music app to work together up until the time that Apple introduced Inter-App Audio (IAA). Audiobus provided a set of software libraries that developers could add to their apps to enable them to send audio and receive audio from each other. It also provided a way for developers to implement State Saving (the ability to save a session and to have apps return to all the settings they had when it is saved). And, it provided the Audiobus toolbar, a way of controlling and switching between apps from anywhere, synchronized timing, and start/stop.
Apple eventually implemented IAA, enabling hosts like AUM to host apps, tempo sync, a "return to host" toolbar that is in some but not all IAA apps. IAA does not provide state saving. At that time, Apple enforced Audiobus needing to work using IAA, forcing a huge rewrite.
Then the AUv3 standard introduced a different way of hosting apps, allowed for multiple instances, and provides state saving. This reduced the technical differences between AUM and Audiobus. So there is less difference between them than there was before.
Now, Apple has announced the "depreciation" of IAA, which means that at some point in the future (could be many years, could be less) they may drop support for IAA. Michael has indicated that if that happens he plans to re-instate the old Audiobus methods so that Audiobus compatible apps that don't move to AUv3 can continue to work together. So, in the future there may be more difference between them than there is today.
End of history lesson.
How do they differ today? The main ways: Audiobus provides state saving for IAA apps if they implement that part of the SDK (software development kit). Audiobus provides its useful toolbar for controlling and switching between apps. Audiobus provides Ableton Link < - > Midi Clock bridging and can follow midi clock. AUM has super convenient and flexible midi and audio routing. AUM provides recording to audio, Audiobus doesn't. AUM uses floating / overlapping windows; Audiobus sticks to one app on the screen at a time in either a half or full-screen view.
There are other differences, but those are the main ones off the top of my head.
That wasn't me. 🤷🏼♂️
Squatters always deny!
long long ago, in the mists of time, when AB was born & the ability to connect two iOS noise makers on the black mirror was discovered
I know I lurked around for some time before actually registering an account...
The 'Mike on a Bike' vid where @Michael outlined the idea behind future app Audiobus.
FOUND IT!
The early days of the forum were amazing. Audio app had released with integration added to only around 6 or so other apps.
The next few months had exciting days as our favourite music apps suddenly announced that they too had added Audiobus integration.
Piping audio from one app to the other had been a 'Pipe dream' (drum roll) for so long and Audiobus was the solution.
I remember Korg apps and Alchemy being particular happy days!

Did the nanostudio 1 forum predate ABF? In my head it did, but maybe I was just hanging around there for the most part. I remember the early NS1 forum as a place where other apps were also being discussed, much like ABF today.
I lurked around for several years before making the first post.
It's amazing how dated the old screenshots look 😮
I was just thinking that too 😄

I've long been a fan of portable music making, even back to a Palm TX running Bhajis Loops. I jumped on the iPhone bandwagon pretty early as a music making tool, but I'm pretty sure I found this place due to a discussion on the Ableton Forums.
My first posting was this thread:

Seems like forever and I noticed there are a lot of deleted users from back then. Just glad that @Michael missed me
I was using FL studio on the desktop and because I suck at playing keys I went looking for some sort of one button chord gadget. In my searches I found Soundprism. Immediately I was bummed because I had android at that time, well as luck would have it a phone upgrade was available so I got the iPhone and got soundprism. I think I was led here by the Soundprism documentation/help and rest is history I will never go back to desktop
@wim, I believe it is “deprecated” not “depreciated “. Odd, cause neither word is quite right, IMO.
transitive verb. 1 : to express disapproval of deprecates such attempts at humor. 2a : play down : make little of speaks five languages … but deprecates this facility — Time. b : belittle, disparage the most reluctantly admired and least easily deprecated of …
STILL, wonderful to be able to correct the Master. We lil ‘uns gotta yap.
Thanks, I've been making that error for years.
(reminds me of the time I was trying to sound intelligent in a meeting with execs and I used the word paradigm, pronouncing it "pra-da-gym". Took me a long time to figure out why they were all looking at me so funny.)
Ha! Love that one. I'm guilty as well though. The funniest one for me is that I thought I was wrong than found out I was right. I was talking to my Mom about the "maturation" period of a bond when I was in high school and she called me out on it. I admitted to making it up, but years later I found that it was a word and I had used it correctly....not that that makes up for all my other screwy grammar mispronunciations or misuse since then.
My son is near genius level in vocabulary and anything having to do with written expression. He tested at post graduate level in 8th grade in all things language related (dumb as a rock at math though). But, his knowledge all came purely from reading. So, he would use all these big words to express himself but totally muff the pronunciation during high school and college. It was hilarious (to him as well) once we figured out what the heck he was talking about. It was his natural way of speaking though, not just trying to show off like I was.
@wim I only use big words if it makes me look smarter to others. I'm not really interested in communicating with others
I’m one of the deleted users in that thread...
@TheOriginalPaulB - I thought that was you! We had some interesting discussions back in the day, and I'm glad to see you're still around!
Yeah, still breathing...
April 2014. Not too bad.
You’re such an old-timer!
