Please... keep the political stuff for the rest of the internet, do not infect our beautiful little forum with that crap. Please.

First off it’s in the right location OFF-topic, second You don’t have to read it, no one forced you, third this topic is not “crap” as you put it.

If you don’t like it then see yourself out!!!!

As a black man, it’s great to come to a place I frequent and see posts like this.

    +1,000,000

The person that used the word “crap” tipped their hand. Having used the word “crap” (a term of extreme disapproval and judgment), the person that used it made it clear that the objection wasn’t to a political comment on the list (they could just as easily have said “I don’t appreciate your having brought politics here”) — they found it necessary to share their opinion about LL’s opinion — it makes me sad that someone would find the notion of accountability “crap” or feel the need to crap on a celebration of baby steps on the way to dealing with ongoing injustice that this nation has never meaningfully dealt with.

  • Thanks for the thoughtful posts, @LinearLineman. Hopefully the verdict yesterday will be a turning point against police racism and brutality. I do think that some minority communities have law and order issues that need addressing, which in some ways feed police attitudes against them, but such talk is for another day.

  • @LinearLineman sometimes your posts are like a work of art. Carefully crafted and nurtured until complete - ready for exhibition.
You’re not in an attic somewhere in Paris with your iPad on an easel by any chance? 😃

This is true. I don’t think there’s much that anyone can do to add to the original post, but there’s a lot that people can do to take away from it...

Bro!!! Crazy right. Just a couple taps to ignore the post but instead they decided to write a sentence or two equal to many taps :D :D :D

  • After months away, I return to this thread...

    @LinearLineman
Please do not be offended by how dry I am. It's not meant to offend but I'm not here to pander to your feelings.
I am of African descent and I see posts / hear monologues like this everyday, and I know / hope it is well intentioned. However, in reality, it is fucking insulting and exhaustingly enraging when it takes the repeated images and a whole media circus around extreme black trauma to "enlighten" a white person. I also hate how everyone brings up TULSA like it's some ancient battle of Mesopotamia, but in the end there is no real accountability or reparations for this repeated extreme violence. It is exhausting to hear or see the the "I'm now woke" posts after things already happened, but no change forthcoming.

I feel great relief that things may finally have turned a corner re racial injustice. Never again can a person imbued with the power of the badge feel secure that his or her actions will not be scrutinized in a court of law thanks to a powerful brotherhood that protects their own and holds them “immune” to punishment. I hope I am not being naive, but it feels that those days may be over.

News flash : This verdict ain't change jack shit in the US.
News flash : This didn't solve racism [just like Kamala's appointment didn't solve rampant sexism]
News flash : By the time I typed this, the shooting of the teenage girl is probably 2 days old news.
It never changes. At least not just like that. It's slow, difficult work. And the work should be done by WHITE PEOPLE.

From your past posts, you seem like you might be a thinking guy, so I hope you understand how this post may seem a bit... (for the lack of a better word) "basic", and like a choreographed dance, it immediately oozes out "user accounts" like @yaknepper @Eye0sStudios and @Philandering_Bastard (you 3 guys are collectively as sharp as a fucking sphere btw... this is literally in "OFF-TOPIC" you dull delicate snowflakes).

But if you don't understand what I'm expressing @LinearLineman... I also understand. I understand that you don't understand... because you are not black. And I'm not trying to be shitty (if I did, I would have said this is the most white-privileged shit I've seen since Chelsea Handler's existence), I'm just fucking TIRED OF THIS EVERY FEW MONTHS!

**This one verdict definitely didn't change racism and police brutality against people of colour in the USA. **

[PS I know this is also about police reform]

Michael can delete me now... or I'll see my way out SKRRRRRT

  • No reason to delete you @DatGood, IMO... not that that is of any consequence to you. I feared I would overstep. I am not black, but I think more “privileged” whites have become much more aware, conscious and empathetic as a result of current events. Surely that’s not a bad thing. As far as Tulsa is concerned, I guess I could have said Tuskegee or Emmett Till for a similar cliched event... but you could understand that the majority of white folk in the US or around the world (and this is an international forum) are unaware of any of this... even as many blacks may not be aware of Raymond Gunn. Knowledge of the truth helps any humanitarian cause.

I know you are angry, and you say you are moderating. Decent people try to recognize their errors.
After all, the famous Amazing Grace was composed by an ex slaver.. another cliche, I guess.

  • Fantastic and well said, and I can almost guarantee that Michael will not block you. This verdict didn't change anything, but it's one step, and I think it's incredibly important that the president saw what we all saw: a man was murdered. And if there's no other takeaway, it's that law enforcement cannot act with total impunity anymore. I mean, look at the original press release the Minneapolis PD after George Floyd's death.

  • @DatGood You’re right that no one who is white knows what it’s like to be black, but some of us are trying to understand better and want to see things change significantly.

I hope things change, and I hope this verdict makes some difference, no matter how small. Whatever way I look at it as someone who is an immigrant to America it’s a shitty situation for everyone who isn’t white, but I saw things improve (and saw backwards steps) as I grew up, so it’s not impossible.

At least give those of us who see the injustice (even if we don’t understand it from experience) the credit for getting behind any kind of positive change. The non-white population of the US won’t get change alone - we all need to want this change, even if we’re not that good at articulating things in the best way.

    We’re trying.

meanwhile everyday another black citizen gets killed or needlessly harassed fined or harmed... fear and injustice everyday

    I hate this shit.

    I hate this shit.

I think that apartheid ended in South Africa for the same reasons that things can change in America. What is the correct response to “I hate this shit”? Give up? Burn it down? I guess the Dalai Lama hates the Tibet shit, too.

Of course, I don’t have to suffer the pain or endure, as someone said, the “glacial” progress . Anyway, I do apologize. It would have been better if a black person had posted this thread. I should have waited.

  • Now we're talking. If no one complains we can keep finding out what's real and what's
    imagined.

They say if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true.
But the opposite is also valid: repeat the truth often enough and it vanquishes lies.

This is a great time for people that thought the legal system was lost along with the rest
of democracy. The system held up in. Merrick Garland has already shown in a few days why McConnell didn't want his view of Justice on the Supreme Court: it's a very 60's view of the
major concerns for fairness under the law.

They say if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true.
But the opposite is also valid: repeat the truth often enough and it vanquishes lies.

I do hope there are a few patriots left in the DoJ that will insure there are consequences for
the attack on democracy on 1/6. I'm still tracking parallels with the last major "dear leader" and we're not even close to the true danger. Good men of all faiths and creeds must stand up for the truth or we are lost.

They say if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes true.
But the opposite is also valid: repeat the truth often enough and it vanquishes lies.

Now... can we discuss reparations? I've seen economic analysis that puts the value at $10T.
    How would it be distributed?

    They say if you repeat...

  • "What's this we, Kemosabe?" (Sorry... couldn't resist... take my wife...)

  • No one said give up. I still hate it. I’m grateful for someone who has “skin in the game” to comment

  • edited April 2021

@audiblevideo, Dat Good was not the only one to comment. I’m glad he said what he did. It is a needed dose of reality. Still, what is the response to “I hate this shit”?

  • edited April 2021

Listen to those who’ve been affected. Support. Contribute, march, vote, rally, speak out, call out, video document, speak to representatives, help stop voter suppression... be present and part of the movement to end police impunity and abuse and on a larger scope racism. Hell, write a protest song.

This isn’t about the “other” this is about us. It affects everyone.

Solidarity is a word. Let’s put it into action.

    I hope that helps @LinearLineman

@richardyot A long way for sure. Banishing loathsome hate-mongering trolls forever into the hinterland realms of their private torturous mental and physical basements instead of the public airwaves where hate makes propaganda and profit would be a good step.

(I thought about dragging Twitter in here and decided against it)
