  • I’ll have to revisit LK again. There’s actually a few apps I want to try with the LPP, like GrooveRider 16? Maybe, if I can get it to put out anything other then EDM.

On the LK front, I've been playing with all the things @Intrepolicious has brought up in this thread, although I'm doing it with my Launchpad X and iPad plugged into my iMac connected with Studiomux.

I wrote in another thread how you can pass the LP's session control from desktop to LK on the iPad (via Studiomux) by 'firing' it up in Ableton and then deselecting Live's midi control inputs. Today I discovered this doesn't work for Atom, so now I've gone to using LK to trigger the Atom clips as well as routing the LP note midi to different SWAMs and Geoshred SWAM.

First major hurdle was discovering C1 in Atom is C2 in LK. Then, I've stretched the trigger note in LK to be the full length of the Atom clip and, as I don't want to mute the incoming midi in Atom, reduced the note velocity in LK to 2 (which seems to be the trigger threshold).

Not all perfect yet, but I think I'm going in the right direction. The Atom default for clip triggering is on CH16, though you can change that along with the trigger message type in the pattern settings, accessed by pressing the 'P.XX" button just below play/stop at the top of the piano roll.

Off back down the rabbit hole.

This sounds fascinating but I have no idea what you’re talking about. :-) Hopefully in the future you will share a video, Mr. MIDIController

Is anyone doing anything interesting incorporating the launch pad pro sequencer into the set up? Or LK?

I was actually just messing with the LPP’s sequencer. I have it driving my DM12 so far with the LPP’s MIDI out jacks.

Haven’t tried sequencing anything on the iPad with this part of it yet, but I assume it’s pretty straight forward. I LOVE the micro-step editing (stutter/ratchet) functions on this!

There’s a ton that I haven’t even tried yet on the LPP MK3, like the unquantized stuff, the custom modes, and the light show capabilities just to name a few.

I’ve got my head around the Session mode (with Ableton on the PC, as well as using it with the iPad), Note and chord modes I understand, and I know how to access and change all the scales and various settings in these areas.

Beyond that, I feel like there’s still a whole lot more device here to discover! It’s an amazing piece of kit!

LK is great, I just can’t get past the UI.

If they’d hire someone to make it a little more pleasant to look at and work with, I’d probably use it. Maybe if it had some different “skins” that we could choose from?

Right now though, Atom 2 is where it’s at (for me!) There’s nothing out there as elegant, responsive, fluid, or functional. It truly is a joy to use!

This sounds great. Are you using the transport controls in all of the other buttons on the LP with any of the iOS tools like Atom2?

That’s one of the great things about ABF - there will come a time in the future when I will have forgotten what I’ve discovered, then I’ll find myself trying to do the same thing again. I’ll re-read my own post, have no idea what I was talking about... and then slowly the shutters of enlightenment will roll up once again :)

I was.. @blueveek and @espiegel123 might be able to help...

I’ve been away for a couple days. Come back today and my beta Atom looks totally different on the left side under the MPE settings, and my GeoSAX is doing stuck notes again. I think I broke it .... :(

So I’m switching to “Funnel mode” now guys? And disabling any channels here?

I’m funnelling too, outputting on a single channel for each instrument. MPE off.

Welcome to the real name club, I always wished I’d gone for something a bit more enigmatic, but Mrs 99 thinks you’ve done a good thing.

I guess I just needed a reboot. All working fine now again!

Please tell the Mrs. I said Thank You! 🙏

  • I managed to get this working tonight with GS set to Atom and back channel filters allowing 1 to record automation and 16 to record notes in MPE on 16 and sending 16 from LP

GR-16 & LPP is an incredible combo I'm using it for all my acoustic and edm drums, percussion sounds and samples, loops and hang drum samples. It's great to sketchup in Atom and loop into RC-505

So just channels 1 and 16? Are you using the “Funnel mode” setting in Atom’s MPE section?

Yes! Thank you so much for posting this!

I had a feeling we could use GR-16 for something other than “BookaChicaBookaChicaBookaChikaBookaChika” stuff, and you just proved it!

I’d like to hear more about your workflow with your LPP. The BOSS RC-505? (I’m super jelly!!) That’s the last piece of gear I plan on buying one day to have myself the complete DØVYDAS setup. For now, I guess I could work with Enso (maybe Group the Loop?) and Blocs Wave/Launchpad for live looping?

  • @Edward_Alexander Any short cuts for the set up at this point?

Well, a lot has changed since this thread was conceived. For one, capturing and playing back actual MPE MIDI data can now be easily accomplished by using the “MIDI Tape Recorder” app.

And two (lol at my last post in this thread), Loopy Pro has come out and completely changed the game. Took the GAS I’d been having for a BOSS 505 and threw it all out the window!
