OSMOSE / Now this is something else

Soon to be released by Expressive... French company that make Touché. Incredible, really. Only $1700. A lot, but this thing would have cost $50,000 in the 90s, for sure.

  • It really does look amazing. With the Eagan Matrix synth onboard too! I could play a few factory presets on the Continuumini with same engine for hours. That combined with the perfect engineering that created Touché which is spot on as far as expression, it’s gonna be worth it. I’d of went for this over the Continuumini for the connectivity and more expansion in the midi realm, if it was available currently. I hope we see it this year.

  • This is really, really cool. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

  • "Soon to be released" until a lot or months now (15?). But yeah, that's a pretty nice midi controller.

@Montreal_Music, due out in ‘21. 15 months ago you could preorder it for 40% off... about $1000. Sometimes waiting is good.

1000$? It was a really good deal.

I think there are a few people on the forum who have pre ordered this, but I don’t remember who.

  • Demo of the pressure weighted portamento:

  • This is the future of live expressive keyboard composing. I’m just waiting for the mallet compatible version.🤞🏼😉 Their Touche’ controller is indispensable in my workflow/ performance.

  • wow seems great!

  • @hypnopad, what is your iPad setup with Touché?

  • I really wanted this based off this vid

    $1700 is reasonable.

  • I got in there with the preorder. Though now it's arriving after Brexit I am worried how much extra it's going to cost to get it from France to the UK!

You had foresight @beniefoe. Let us know, please when you get it. I love how they maxed the key stick length by exposing it all the way to the back. Unique, but Kim guessing they will put a casing over it.
Here’s Rudess’ take on it... showing what can be done by an expert. Sold me. Kim gonna have to sell the family jewels... literally.

@hypnopad, what is your iPad setup with Touché?

I mainly use it with my Ableton Live setup to modulate NI Prism fx or for ExpressiveE’s own Lié synth.
As for ipadOS, I usually modulate Drambo parameters as I’m running raw drum pad sounds through the resonators as shown in this video. Touche’ is in the lower left corner.

Basically run it into a powered usb hub along with your keyboard and then into the iPad via a CCK 3. It’s not MPE but does send out four separate streams of continuous controller messages. Very highly recommended !!

Very nice. It is a bopad? Can you send me the link of the thing you use in the middle (the percussive midi controller)?

It’s not a bop pad. It’s just a run of the mill Roland drum pad. A small piezo mic inside is picking up all the subtle timbral variations of finger on rubber/wood/metal. I’m running the audio output into a cheap IRig interface that goes into AUM/Drambo. The Drambo patch is based on the Impaktor app by the same dev.
You can find used Roland pads/ IRig interfaces online really cheap.
The instrument on the right is a Roland Handsonic and is just being used as a simple midi controller.

  • This thing is fantastic, and it has the Eagan matrix!

  • I'm not a keyboard player - currently looking at a Linnstrument though - but this synth engine and presets are the best I've heard for MPE.

Is the synth engine available separately, either in software (preferably) or hardware?

  • Mike, for someone with your playing skills, i think if this Osmose really resonates you, just do what you have to do to get it, i bet you would make amazing stuff with it. Sell some shit of necessary, a kidney, whatever, it’ll probably be worth it

A mate of mine is getting one. He has had just about every MPE controller on the market, except the Haken Finger Board because of the build issues. He is very excited about it, reckons it's The One. We'll see.

The EaganMatrix is only currently available in a Haken Continuum fingerboard or the more affordable ContinuuMini: https://www.hakenaudio.com/continuumini

And it is definitely one of the best MPE synth engines in existence :)

  • Tried the Half Continuum at Discovery World in Milwaukee. It had the built-in EaganMatrix synth engine - older Continuum models were only controllers and weren't made for standalone use until later.

One most expressive and responsive electronic instruments I ever tried.

Looking forward to playing my Osmose, whenever it arrives.

  • Hi @LinearLineman an update from Superbooth for you

  • Related news.... Osmose's sound engine is the EaganMatrix multi-engine.

for those who don't want to deal with a keyboard interface and/or have Eurorack/CV sequencer/controller gear, this might be for you:

  • @GovernorSilver, well, they have parts for the preorders, anyway. You can tell me how you like it. I may just settle for a Touché. A lot easier on the pocket.

Will do. I suspect mine will arrive in 2022.

Hopefully by then I will have progressed in my training to merge Wynton Kelly's and Mile's blues stylings for use with the Osmose's unique capabilities.

  • Why is the keyboard so deep? It invites me to play it from both sides.
