Yeah, they have a few AUv3 apps already, so users (or is it only me?) are looking forward for the other Korg apps to be updated to the Audio Unit standard.
I think I'm going to reinstall Gadget. This thread has made me realise that I actually miss it. 😂
…and then delete after you remember why you decided to delete it the first time.
I’ve installed and deleted it at least 10 times already. Memory of a goldfish 🤦♂️
Probably. 😂 It's the nostalgia driving me since Gadget was my main composing environment for years before Nanostudio 2 came along.
Yes, it is cool, I should use this more often to create crazy fx.
You mean playing your iPad through a BBD delay and recording this back in? Please upload a demo when you do.
Indeed, putting the output through some effect before recording back in offers many different options. One can also hum or beatbox along while recording, or put your mouth around the speaker for a wah-wah effect
The acoustics while recording through mic can also be used as fx > play it loud in a bathroom, etc.
Talking about BBD, Rosario has an analog delay which, combined with the amp and cabinet settings, can sound quite thick.
Okay, here’s a question
Who here got into Gadget, and also got into Ampify’s Groovebox and paid for the IAPs for that?
So, Gadget (well, it's called Gadget 2 now innit?) and the rest of the Korg apps have been reinstalled. I'm having a successful go in Gadget. Took me a while to remember why I didn't bother having it on my iPad for over 2 years. Then I remembered...
As I started naming my tracks to mark which is which, I realised I didn't have that feature before. When did they add custom naming of tracks? 😱
The "new and improved" GUI to Gadget 2 was what actually killed Gadget for me, but now that I look at it, it seems they adjusted it. I can actually see what I'm doing. When did they fix that?
Most of the IFX aren't as awful as I remember. There seem to be some new ones to boot. (Okay, so the reverb still sucks, not gonna lie. 😂 When one is spoiled with Eventide, Pro-R, and even the default reverb in NS2, etc, of course the Gadget reverb will sound shite. 🤪 And the EQ still sucks, but meh.)
But it seems that, reverb and EQ aside, things in Gadget 2 have either been improved since I last toyed with it, or aren't as bad as I remembered.
EDIT: Here's a throwaway example. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7xqfeaf8eumyq2s/ - gadget untitled (1)-converted.m4a?dl=0 I HP filtered the low ends of the non-bass-heavy tracks and did a bit of sidechaining. The sub bass has some added saturation (thank god Korg added that!). Drum samples are all Recife. The midbass is Miami, and the sub is Chiangmai. I mastered it with my usual "MDEStereo to BarkFilter to Barricade" effects chain in Cubasis 3. Gadget 2 gives me a meatier sound than NS2 does.
Not me, but I seldom go for any IAPs unless they're full app unlocks. No Gadget or Groovebox IAPs here.
I bought Gadget years ago during a sale and used a discounted iTunes gift card. Even though it was (and is) comparatively expensive to other apps, it's a bargain when you consider the number of instruments you get. I've always just used it as a sound module.

And I believed I was creative 😅
Thanks for these great ideas!
Would be real fun if Gadget supported MIDI AUv3s; particularly if they implemented AUv3 state-per-scene vs entirely channel based.
Not a solution but automation can get you quite far in Gadget.
That’s a great way to add some flavor
I’ve always enjoyed setting up Gadget in Aum and then firing Rozeta and Fugue Machine at it always good fun
If they could make gadget multi out and load it in aum / ab that would be good with me , could sequence with any MIDI app as usual then add our effects too each channel
EXAAAAAAAAACTLY
Gadget as a box is fine with me. I see people do more with less growing up. Only thing to me lacking is the au aspect. Add an au gadget and au fx and internal sampling and I’d prob remove every daw I don’t need. Besides BeatHawk, gadget has been the most sound and stable of all iPad apps. My dream is to use beathawk inside gadget.
I really like to see one price for all os. Hate paying for it multiple times to use it on Mac or switch or ios.
I got an mc707...who needs gadget
Inspired by my own "if only..." post in this thread earlier today I did pretty much this tonight. It was indeed good fun but yeah, MIDI AUFX settings per channel+scene still feels like it'd be super duper fun. Like, it'd blow Gadget wide open for me in a way I hadn't previously considered.
Sequencing Gadget with Xequence 2 is a great combination.
I never got on with the workflow. Looked like an awesome app.
Still grooving along with it.
I’m liking the idea of getting Pompei on board, but I’m not liking the idea of shelling out £28 for iPolysix just to get the Gadget version. Anyone know when the next sale might be due?
There was a sale in June last year so could be one coming up, they seem to have Summer and Black Friday sales.
@robosardine Korg does a ‘Summer sale’ every year around June/July.
Great, thanks - just in time. 😃 I might just treat myself to Stockholm as well.
Got iMonoPoly? IMHO it's the better deal.
I didn't abandon Gadget... I just stopped trying when I found 16 bars to be too short for my style of workflow.
I switched to Auria, then Cubasis and settled on AUM.
Lately, I've started to use a pencil in Staffpad.
Maybe I'll start to think in 16 bar sections some day.
I entertained BPM = 20 and the maximum number of steps per bar which let's you record audio for up to 7 minutes but makes quantizing truly dangerous since notes will be grouped into clumps.
Agreed, so is Lexington (ODYSSEi).
Still like Pompei for its smooth Hi-pass filter.
Once the summer sale comes, I'm buying the IAPs I'm missing in Module currently. I love Nanostudio 2, but I'm finding myself returning to Gadget in a big way. Produced two tracks in it within the span of about 1-2 weeks.
Daily reminder that Korg is dead to me until they dust off iKaossilator and do a proper update/sequel, etc.
I do have iMonopoly and it definitely has its sonic moments. A bit like @jwmmakerofmusic was saying I am taking a headlong dive back into Gadget so I’m looking to beef up the arsenal a bit.
