Musical toys that could be used for more in the right hands?

I’m looking for toy apps, apps aimed at beginners or casual dabblers that are actually quite good sounding or have some unique fun features that perhaps someone who knows what they are doing could make good use of. What are your favorites currently?

"Seaboard 5D" app... free with IAP's
    Hybrid Acoustic $3.99
    Expressive Electronic $3.99
    Synthetic Leads $3.99

NOTE: It's optimized for Retina displays which apparently does NOT mean... stick your finger in your eye. Poor documentation on that one! Works best on an iPhone with 3D Touch which
apple stopped supporting because nerds expected it to improve interactions with porn sites
and demanded refunds or created legal issue with Apple Store customers that didn't think it was that kind of store.

"Ocarina of Time" The only IOS app you blow into. Using the secret iPhone/iPad blow hole.
Do not seal your lips around the blow hole to insure you don't fill the IOS device with spit.
Blow gently from 2-3 inches back and finger your devices gently while tickling it's buttons.
It's the only app with multiple G spots. Did I mention it's FREE with no IAP's... but it goes well with a nice IPA.

And of course Drambo with the @Echoopera stuff that just makes magic when you hit the little triangle do-dad. Some autistic children enter the world of Drambo and won't come out for months. Y-A-C-M-V.

There are more if I'm not limited to the right hands like GeoShred, TC-11, Gestrument Pro, Kaosilator, Impaktor {Drambo with out all the hard parts for the normal child}.

  • It’s very easy to get impressive sounds from Touchscaper, but there’s also a serious instrument lurking in there too.

  • I still love Figure (free). You can get some really fun jams going there, and by exporting individual tracks (with focused use of he mute button), you can import the parts into other apps and build some nice tracks on top of a foundation created in Figure.

  • Play Goat Simulator + Amen Break in Sector = ???
I'm sure you can't go wrong with it.

Big fan of that one. How do you use it?

  • Not much these days, but I always was surprised by how complex you could get with it given the simple interface. I think I might need to check this one out again soon.

  • I'll add that if you start multitracking figure and ikaossilator tracks you're sure to have fun

  • Here's a good one: PixiTracker by the developer of SunVox. It's toy-like, but can export creations to full-blown SunVox projects.

And ... surprised nobody has said it yet: Bebot.

  • I didn't even realize Bebot was on iOS and still supported, always thought that was still desktop only.

  • Lordy. Anything you can get sound out of given the right mood/moment?

Since it rarely gets mentioned anymore: ThumbJam might be an easy coup.

  • ThumbJam, DrumJam, Figure.

    WerkBench & Dandy.

i’d give the Fluxama apps a mention too, but tragically they are currently somewhat broken.

Monavista rocks! I can’t find Gemma? Known by a different name or do you know who the dev is?

  • Figure
    Dot Melody
    Nodebeat
    IKaossilator
    Seaquence
    SoundBow
    Pixitracker
ChAios2 - not sure if still on App Store

  • SoundPrism

  • TweakyBeat

Reactable ROTOR. With an emphasis on "in the right hands".

  • Sir Sampleton, Sleigh Bells.
Electroplankton for Nintendo, if you can find it.

Gemma was withdrawn from the App Store years ago. Sorry.

    Monovista does indeed rock.

I love Electroplankton. Always intended to sample some and use it in a track... right after I get round to using Cosm as the basis for an ambient track and iOptigan for some crunchy retro samples. :D

Yeah it was a blast huh! Unfortunately I knew very little about sampling at the time I had a DS and the game. Though did work out some little tracks with it, a Roland SH-3 and an electone organ.

Man, I should look into DS emulators, hope there's an Electroplankton ROM out there!

If I could do it over again, I'd definitely record it to cassette, half speed it, then sample the shit out of it!

Still my all-time favorite music production app. And still waiting for Yonac to figure out how to turn it into an AUv3… somehow.
