It took me a minute to figure this out also.
It seems by going to the material browser, which one would naturally assume, you can only access the “Perplexon” video clips under the “Media - Image/Video” tab. And as you’ve discovered, trying to import a video on this screen doesn’t work.
Instead;
Long press on one of your layer boxes to bring up this little menu, and tap PHOTOS
From there, you should be able to access your entire camera roll, videos and all.
That's crazy, they have to fix that !
Thank you very much
You’re welcome. Have fun!
Is there a manual for this app? I’ve found my way around the layers and modulation etc, and created some projects I’m happy with, but recording anything is a mystery.
Apologies if this has been covered already
Thanks all👍
If you open VS standalone and tap Help in the menu (hamburger icon top left) it open the manual in Safari. This doesn’t work in the AUv3 (I think it used to work). This is where it takes you:

To record the video, press the record button (red dot in the toolbar) before starting your transport in AUM. I would think it’s the same in DAWs etc if that what you’re using. Play your piece through, then hit stop and wait a bit - it’ll pop up a share sheet and you can send the recording wherever you want. This doesn’t match the manual, which says it saves the recording in a Recordings folder which I can’t find on my iPad. I suspect the manual needs an update. The share sheet used to have an option to save the video to Photos, but that seems to have disappeared.
Thanks for taking the time to respond - I’ll give it a go later - I’m going to find out soon enough, but will this just record video or synced audio too?
If you feed the audio into it (either pipe everything into an output bus and put VS on that, or put your finalised audio mix into a file player and put VS after that - these examples are for AUM), it will record the audio and video into the file. It can only record the audio you pipe into it.
I am doing my first video. It’s a 30 second video. I have an audio file that is load and that triggers the layer. When I play the save file the audio and video play way to fast. The run time is 17 second when it should be 30 sec.
I am using the stand alone version with a audio file playing to trigger the layer.
@ecou is there a frame rate mismatch?
Maybe @sinosoidal could help?
Along the time has been reports of inconsistencies in video file duration and play speed. We are aiming to fix that in version 1.8.0.
Are you in Windows or macOS?
Thank you for the reply. Any plans on fixing the alpha transparency of png of layers ?
After the latest update, it's become a slugfest for me, anyone else?
Something is wrong indeed. I tested on a less powerful iPad and it does not even open. It works perfectly on the M1 iPad Pro though, which is the device we use before releasing. We are investigating. Thanks for reporting!
Do you have videos as media? If so, how many?
It depends on the last patch you loaded, the heaviest ones make it nearly impossibile to reopen the app. No videos as media.
I used an iPhone SE 3 (A15).
Are you able to get into our TestFlight to try the latest beta to see if the problem is solved?
I’m not in the beta…
Send me a private message with your email so I can put you on it. Thank you!
@sinosoidal
VS also will not open for me , after I last used loading some longish audio & video files (which worked at the time)
Ipad Air 4 17.7.2
I will send DM for Testflight beta , but shall ask publicly about presets ;
where are presets stored if I wanted to make a back up ? the only file I can find is a single state.json
in On My Ipad /VS folder /Imaginando /VS 47k file .
I had been using VS to create my band branding visuals , so really don’t want to risk losing those presets .
Thanks .
Preset export is already possible. You can export a preset individually, or the whole bank. You can find share arrows on the bank items and preset items.
HOWEVER
This will not export media (images/videos) along with the presets. This is still something we are trying to figure out the best solution that covers both iOS and desktop workflow.
@sinosoidal thanks for quick response , but my preset question is for emergency salvage
because I can’t open VS . Can I access files directly to make a copy ?
Will loading Testflight beta wipe existing presets ?
You can install a beta on top of the existing VS. You can do the same around, install an App Store version on top of a beta. Just don't delete the app and the presets will not be lost.
We need to find a way of exposion the presets to the VS folder on the iPad file system for easier access.
Hi @Edward_Alexander. I tried this and I found that I can only access photos, not videos.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Hmm, it seems they changed this @rottencat. I can’t access the videos either now.
@sinosoidal may be able to help?
We removed that ability because when you use the photos picker to choose a video, it creates a copy of the video into the app sandbox instead of creating a bookmark. Since videos can be very big, we believed that it is better to have more control over the assets, so the recommendation is to keep all the videos in a well know folder in the iPad file system and use the Files option to pick them.
Thanks @sinosoidal. That works for me!🙂
And thanks also to @Edward_Alexander for steering me in the right direction.🙂
Absolutely! And thank you @sinosoidal ❤️
We are thrilled to present a whole new side of VS - Visual Synthesizer. Raw Reflections is the newest VS expansion pack from Perplex On and our first video-focused expansion. This is made possible by the render improvements and optimizations introduced in the latest version 1.9.0, which will now allow a smooth rendering of multiple videos per patch.
Perplex On is no stranger to VS users. He has played a crucial role since the very beginning of VS history, with an incredible factory content and presets as well as two additional expansion packs. The way he blends textures and colors is mesmerizing and pure mastery.
Now prepare to immerse yourself in the eerie beauty of the unknown with Raw Reflections - a collection of 59 video-based visuals infused with dystopian, alien and retro-futuristic aesthetics. Glitchy textures and otherworldly echoes evoke nostalgic wonder, transforming any project into a cinematic journey through the surreal and transcendent.
In addition to the presets, you're also getting a collection of 76 videos and 11 images to expand your VS media library and help build your own visuals.
This expansion pack will provide you with a powerful insight into how to combine video with shader materials to create astonishing results with little effort.
Attention, you will need to have VS 1.9.0 in order to access this pack.

Latest update with Raw Reflections sounds cool! Is it safe to update on an older iPad, given this comment from February?
