@blueveek Is this style of Atom triggering
    /recording/ etc possible in Cubasis?

Yes, clips can be manually assigned to custom tracks and slots. The AUM integration is a nice to have, but doesn’t mean the feature is exclusive.

There’s a weird interaction with Cubasis’ loop markers, only when Cubasis’ beginning loop point starts at 0, which leads to some unexpected behavior. However, if you don’t use that, or if you loop starting from another beat, then it should be fine.

Thanks for that! Doesn’t seem like a deal breaker in Cubasis. I wish there was more examples of this workflow in action, seems like tons of potential.

@blueveek Since you’re one of the pioneer devs of this device having these workflow options on iOS, what’s your opinion, launchpad X or Pro?

I'm using the LP Pro with Ableton and with IOS. It's very cool. With IOS, I've mapped different instruments and faders using custom layouts. As a non-piano player, I'm loving the note and chord layouts. I've also used the sequencer and it's a lot like using Circuit Tracks but not limited to the two internal synths that Tracks has. And the Pro has velocity and aftertouch. If you can swing the extra bucks, I think LP Pro would be worth it.

Please tell me more about the faders scenario and the DAWs/apps you’ve used them in. How many can u run at once? Is this a viable control surface solution?

    @espiegel123 said:

    Thanks for that clarification!

So knowing that @espiegel123 & @ljholland would you say the X is sufficient or the Pro is worth the extra 150-200 investment?

I am happy with my Launchpad X -- at the time that I got the X, there was a chance to get the Pro for only about $75 more. In retrospect, the extra buttons would be handy. But I am not sure that they would be $150 handy. I don't have any regrets. An internal sequencer isn't something that I would use. So, I don't miss not having that.

Loopop did a video comparing the two:

About the sensitivity of the buttons, a few people that have played both (or have both) have said that they didn't find them hugely different.

  • I love my Launchpad X, and at the same time I was expecting more programming ability with the widgets. There just aren't that many to choose from and so it feels like a little of a missed opportunity there.

Launch Control and Nanokontrol2 are much better control surface solutions. You don't get very many readily accessible faders with the launchpads.

not sure I follow you on this. I have 12 banks of 8 faders each on the lppro (8 banks with just components)

There is a desktop app called Components with which you can design custom layouts with virtual faders and whatnot. You can find videos about it that might be helpful.

Yeah I know, but with Nanokontrol2 you have 8 knobs, 8 faders and 24 buttons right there, you don't have to set it up in components, they are tactile, you don't have to switch banks. It's just quicker. With Launch Control XL, in one bank you have 24 knobs, 8 faders, and 16 buttons, and you get 8 banks of that. With LP Pro, you get 8 banks of 8 faders, which have to be set up, and the feel isn't great. You slide up or down, or tap or double tap. And if you're using the LP Pro as an instrument, you have to stop playing and switch to custom mode.

Different strokes for different folks, I just feel as a control surface, it's not a top choice.

Also, Cubasis has a template for Nanokontrol2 that utilizes every button and works really well. Plus LPX + Nanokontrol2 is cheaper than LP Pro. With Launch Control XL, it's about the same but you get 2 devices and a lot more control and convenience.

personally i use one of each.....but they suit different purposes.
cant really get 64 ready available toggles on a launchcontrol or nanocontrol

    Agreed.

Luckily I have the LaunchControl XL as well which makes for a good balanced pairing.

Launchpad pads don’t make for great faders.
Useful for when ones need a quick mix but not for precision.

(24+16)x8? With 16x8 buttons? And if you have LPX you still get 4x8 as well?

24 knobs and 8 faders. 16 buttons. 8 banks. On LCXL. 4 Banks with 8 faders on LPX.

And that's just custom on LCXL. You can still use the factory banks which is 8 more banks.

Launchpad mini plus a nanokey should be better for me than an x or pro.

When you consider all other gear will be between launchpad and nanokey.

My track selection which determines what is transposed is on another controller and eye level with ipads. Which means selecting track, then applying when ever.

The x means looking away from ipads. So less flowy.

Plus it will be more going through custom modes then if a bass synth for instance were dedicated to the nanokey. Plus you get some knobs for the synth.

    My pointless opinion.

  • How long are the usb cable with launchpad?

Can it be used for ipad to audio4c if its too short?

What usb c to type a cable do I need to buy, which would work for either ipad/audio4c or launchpad?

  • Here’s a curveball, will the Akai APC 40mkii work with atom 2 piano roll??

Seems like the perfect hybrid solution for Cubasis and atom piano roll...

They are not 'pre-configured' in Atom 2 but if you have one of them there's absolutely nothing stopping you from creating a profile for them by following the example scripts provided with Atom 2 ;)

  • Decided to share my thoughts after 3 weeks of use. I like the controller, but I get more use out of my Launchkey.

I had the LPX in my cart for quite some time and almost pulled the trigger many times until one faithful day on Facebook when I spotted a new LPP for sale at a local pawn shop. I ended up trading my Akai MPD218 and Launchpad Mini towards it which left me with a $50 balance! So I got a new Launchpad Pro for $50 🙏🏻

I love it. The pads have great sensitivity, the built in sequencer is awesome for my hardware gear, of course it works great with Ableton and the extra banks are fun for building my own control surfaces. Using Components on my laptop is a small detour, although I wish Components worked on mobile. I’ve tried accessing it online with a couple of iOS apps that are online MIDI compatible, but no dice of course 😂

I don’t mind jumping on my laptop to edit templates or on mobile: assigning stuff in apps like Koala or BM3. Atom 2 integration has always be fun and occasionally I’ll reinstall the Launchpad app to play my own packs.

It’s like having components on your iPad. Straight forward custom layouts without a PC/Mac. Great for LP’s, circuit and a bunch of other controllers. Highly recommended for when you want a bunch of different custom layouts to control a few different apps.

I have 4 page layouts for Drambo and Loopy, 2 pages for BM3 and Koala, etc. Without the app I’d have to constantly hop back to a computer and decide which 4 I can have at any given time which is dumb.lol

Awesome! Is it functional free or upgrade needed to do most stuff?

Yep. Everything Component can do on your ipad/iPhone. Once you’ve sent/saved your custom layout to LPX you can close the app. Doesn’t have to be running. The only thing i dont like is that it doesn’t recall the layouts you set in Components so basically use one or the other is best although you can save all your layouts in either application so it isn’t the biggest deal i guess.

Does app pass through cck. The midi cable to launchpad.

Does it send the data to launchpad and can forget about app?

I can buy and return app anyway. Not return after mapping. In case it doesn't work.

    Thanks
